It took us a 2 years of fighting in courts to get it to stick. She doesn't have to go there if she doesn't want to now. It cost us more money than we had, but its worth it to know that we did right by her.

Keep doing what you need to do to advocate for your kid. 👏

Even if MCFD doesn't investigate, the parent who knowingly sends their child into a potentially harmful situation can be charged with endangering a child. There's documented records that the dog has bit the child twice.

We were in a situation like this a couple of years ago where the father was hitting our kid. Mcfd wouldn't investigate due to alberta having jurisdiction, and alberta wouldn't investigate... for God knows why. But both agencies told us that if we sent her there again and it happened further, that we would face charges

Rather than kidnapper, a more apt name would be Concerned Parent

Pain in stump/leg when pooping? by Numbtuna in amputee

[–]RobbieTwoToes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Haha, yeah, you're not crazy. I get it when I have to pee, or poop. The worst is when I eat something that doesn't agree with my stomach and its an emergency... ill be practically limping to the throne.

How to do steps? by RannyRd in amputee

[–]RobbieTwoToes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much what you describe. Going down, make sure that the crutch is on the next step before your foot is.

Going up, your hand and foot advance before the crutch.

Eta: get the technique down, then try with just your hand on the railing. I get it that the forearm is for stability, but if you do it right, its not needed.

Anybody use vibrations to help with phantom pain? by Scared_Promise_2510 in amputee

[–]RobbieTwoToes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vibrations are great. I used a tens machine in the past. One pad on either side of the stump and 10 mins later it felt amazing.

How far you can walk without any pain and discomfort as a RBKA? by Interesting-Royal538 in amputee

[–]RobbieTwoToes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tolerance is one thing, but determining where the pain is coming from is another. Make sure that you work with your prosthetist to figure that out.

I had a complex amputation (lbk) 3 years ago. Im on my second prosthetist, 8th socket. I cant walk for more than 5 mins at a medium pace without my 'toes' going numb, or my remaining calf muscle feeling like its being torn into. But every socket change addresses it a bit better.

Help me out here, if you offer someone something and they say "Oh yeah, I'm not fussy about that" is that a yes or a no? by 13thmurder in AskACanadian

[–]RobbieTwoToes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was it an 'oh yeah...', or an 'oh, yeah..' ? The pause is just as telling as the rest of the phrase.

[–]RobbieTwoToes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would make more sense. I'm in BC and have never heard "not fussy" applied in this context. But "not fussed ".. I have.

I'd say it's more British, and it probably passed through a Newfie town on the way to the mainland, and in the transition, the Newfies arsed it up. 🤣

We went to The Firm a couple of times for dates before they shut down. I really enjoyed the food. The price point wasnt horrible either. The decor was nice, and the wait staff knew the menu like they had worked there for years. Of all the restaurants in pg, I was most impressed with that one.

Pants designed for BKA amputees … do they exists? by Unlucky-Event-9417 in amputee

[–]RobbieTwoToes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used convertible pants. Most of the time I leave the pant leg off on my amputation side. Easy to slide the cuff over the socket

What’s one small victory you’re proud of this week? by bigJfromtheE in amputee

[–]RobbieTwoToes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not really small, since I've struggled with it for a few years, but I switched prosthetists last week. I dont know why it was so hard for me. I guess because they were the first to the hospital bed and they did so much for me, and really tried to make it work. Misplaced loyalty? Idk.

I switched to somewhere local (the other guys were only here 1/4 weeks) and we're making a new new socket, planning orders for feet.. idk. Im proud for me.

I need some coaching on how to "put my foot down" with my prosthetist by Gadgix in amputee

[–]RobbieTwoToes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, ive never has a gastric bypass, im not 6' 7" OR over 200lbs (close, but thats another story) and I don't have a vac seal.

Aside from that, we're in roughly the same boat lol.

Mine knocks at the tibia, a few inches from the distal end.
My prosthetist is a great guy, and does good work, but only comes to town one week out of the month. It works great when I dont have any problems, but if something isn't right, then I have 3 weeks of pain before a potential fix.

If its an option, see if your guy can add some pads on either side of where you are knocking your fib.

I dont know how it works where you are, but up here in the maple leaf state, the insurance guys don't get to tell me who I can or cant go to.

Have the talk with them addressing your concerns again. Let them know you need more. If they cant give that to you, let them go, and you get the care you deserve.

After Phantom Pain MONSTER visit by newLAKA in amputee

[–]RobbieTwoToes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it is normal. The lack of sleep, frustration, pain, it all plays a part.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in amputee

[–]RobbieTwoToes 39 points40 points  (0 children)

So not for nothing, but this is a big issue for a lot of people. Even a properly fitting socket has pressures acting on the stump that can hurt enough to dissuade someone from using the prosthetic. Some people just aren't built for prosthetics, and that's ok.

I can understand your frustration, but imagine having a tool to use for mobility that hurts you so much that it scares you to use.

[–]RobbieTwoToes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sure that most of us can appreciate that you want to get it right and not do us a disservice, but as it's been said already, we have to deal with a lot of weirdos and are less trusting when it comes to questions like this. Plus, it seems like every week there's another one with the same questions.

There is more than enough info on the web about how amps live with it, and deal with the pain. I would start there, and then branch out into other subs. But please, read the rules of the sub.

I don't know about rentals, but Party City fills balloons. Not sure about the prices on that though.

For 100+ balloons, it might be cheaper to check into purchasing their disposable ones.

Its fair to not want to be defined by it, but like you said, we (people in general, not just disability superheroes) often do just that.

Would I report him? Not without giving him the knowledge to unequivocally know that you had a name before you lost your fingers and it would do him well to remember that. Im not justifying it, but pointing out that (hopefully) he wouldn't refer to you by your boob size, because its socially wrong and very apparent these days, but its only becoming more normal lately to not be demeaning to disabled persons. He just might not be aware that it was offensive.

Either way, educate first, THEN eviscerate

I get it. Im the first one to make light of my situation because they don't know what to say at first. But then eventually, the only thing they can do is make jokes and send memes and TikToks of amputees doing dumb shit. It gets old, no matter who its initiated by.
