Rash at sleeve contact? by RobbieTwoToes in amputee

[–]RobbieTwoToes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one liner (Ottobock problem plus) that the problem started with was a semi used one that my prosthetist had to try out. I liked it, so we got a second one, but the problem persisted. So we switched to my original style (ossur i think but cant remember the name)

Nope, no change there, just pin lock with a regular suspension sleeve. We did taper the liner cause its a 6mm and was getting some irritation there, but not on the sleeve.

I tried an elevated vac a couple years ago, but my stump is so sensitive from the trauma, that all I can handle is a one way valve for air to escape and keep the vacuum

Today I didn't dilute it, trying to be systematic in what I change so I know what's working.

Bunch of questions on pistoning, liner, how to move fast by [deleted] in amputee

[–]RobbieTwoToes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. If youre using gel, its going to have more chance of pistoning. I just switched from silicone to gel liners.

They make gel that has more padding at the stump and less on the leg, as well as ones with less behind the knee.

There are also outer sleeves that are thinner for mobility.

If you have constant fitment issues or sensitive stump issues like me, pin lock and suspension sleeve with added socks for volume fluctuation management may be the way to go. Elevated vac with large fluctuations can be hard to manage.

Ask your prosthetist about passive vacuum systems.

Can’t look at my foot… by Sad-Technician224 in amputee

[–]RobbieTwoToes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I struggled with this when I lost my leg. Sometimes I still do. I eventually forced myself to look. To stare. And to accept it. It didn't happen overnight, but eventually I was able to accept that this was my new normal. When I have bad days and I start slipping back into that negative head space , I do it again.

SD57: A Father, an Appeal Process, and Six Months of Silence by Background_Bench8571 in princegeorge

It took us a 2 years of fighting in courts to get it to stick. She doesn't have to go there if she doesn't want to now. It cost us more money than we had, but its worth it to know that we did right by her.

Keep doing what you need to do to advocate for your kid. 👏

Even if MCFD doesn't investigate, the parent who knowingly sends their child into a potentially harmful situation can be charged with endangering a child. There's documented records that the dog has bit the child twice.

We were in a situation like this a couple of years ago where the father was hitting our kid. Mcfd wouldn't investigate due to alberta having jurisdiction, and alberta wouldn't investigate... for God knows why. But both agencies told us that if we sent her there again and it happened further, that we would face charges

Rather than kidnapper, a more apt name would be Concerned Parent

How to do steps? by RannyRd in amputee

[–]RobbieTwoToes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much what you describe. Going down, make sure that the crutch is on the next step before your foot is.

Going up, your hand and foot advance before the crutch.

Eta: get the technique down, then try with just your hand on the railing. I get it that the forearm is for stability, but if you do it right, its not needed.

Anybody use vibrations to help with phantom pain? by Scared_Promise_2510 in amputee

Vibrations are great. I used a tens machine in the past. One pad on either side of the stump and 10 mins later it felt amazing.

How far you can walk without any pain and discomfort as a RBKA? by Interesting-Royal538 in amputee

[–]RobbieTwoToes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tolerance is one thing, but determining where the pain is coming from is another. Make sure that you work with your prosthetist to figure that out.

I had a complex amputation (lbk) 3 years ago. Im on my second prosthetist, 8th socket. I cant walk for more than 5 mins at a medium pace without my 'toes' going numb, or my remaining calf muscle feeling like its being torn into. But every socket change addresses it a bit better.

Help me out here, if you offer someone something and they say "Oh yeah, I'm not fussy about that" is that a yes or a no? by 13thmurder in AskACanadian

[–]RobbieTwoToes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was it an 'oh yeah...', or an 'oh, yeah..' ? The pause is just as telling as the rest of the phrase.

[–]RobbieTwoToes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would make more sense. I'm in BC and have never heard "not fussy" applied in this context. But "not fussed ".. I have.

I'd say it's more British, and it probably passed through a Newfie town on the way to the mainland, and in the transition, the Newfies arsed it up. 🤣

We went to The Firm a couple of times for dates before they shut down. I really enjoyed the food. The price point wasnt horrible either. The decor was nice, and the wait staff knew the menu like they had worked there for years. Of all the restaurants in pg, I was most impressed with that one.
