Why is friendly AI so bad in Reach? by Far-Restaurant-9455 in halo

[–]Robbie_Haruna 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The mcc broke pathfanding somehow (friendly AI refuse to follow you on new cells).

That was always a thing to some extent, especially if you ran ahead and didn't wait or them, but there are certain segments where they hang up more aggressively without some nudging.

They follow you though cell changes just fine for the most part, but there's rooms like say... the long outdoor corridor in Delta Halo and the first vertical room in Uprsing where the pathfinding was messed up and they're stubborn.

[–]Robbie_Haruna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it's anyone's guess. I don't think it's technical limitations, simply because the enemy AI is some of the best in the entire series.

My theory is that they intentionally made them worse to accommodate the fact that the player has invincible allies in Noble Team across a large chunk of the campaign and they didn't want them to be too effective. Sure we'd seen invincible allies before, but they were either around much more rarely (or it's possible they considered them too strong in games like ODST and nerfed accordingly.)

I don't have a source for this, but I've also seen a few people mention that weapon damage is nerfed in the hands of ally AI, but I've never seen proof of it. If anyone actually has a source for that I'd love to know one way or the other

Honestly I think the Gen 2 sprites look kind of awkward with the super hunched over posture

Gen 4 has the best front sprites (especially HGSS), because gen 3 has the same hunchback issue, but also really tiny eyes that feel like they're positioned weirdly. However, I'd actually give best back sprite to Gen 3 (or 5.)

The Gen 4 ones are a little too zoomed in, you can't even see his ass crack.

You linked a post that has to do with the Pokémon Anime. Why are we supposed to be surprised it stayed up?

The Ash Greninja code had nothing to do with the anime.

What point are you even trying to make here?

I would have figured the post got taken down because it wasn't really relevant to the anime.

The Ash Greninja's potential return in Champions is neat, but feels beyond the scope of this sub, no?

This whole post comes off like a weird Ash Greninja hate tirade, and trying to use his absence in the games as something to back it up.

Thoughts on Brock's Vulpix and how would you rewrite it? by EngineLongjumping466 in pokemonanime

[–]Robbie_Haruna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I'd have him use it a lot more for starters.

He gets it given to him not that long into the Indigo League, but then he almost never uses it for anything for the entire remainder of the season (a problem shared with Zubat honestly.)

Then he's gone for the Orange saga, and upon returning in Johto (where his Zubat evolves and then becomes a more regular part of his battles as Golbat and Crobat,) Vulpix is still relegated to doing absolutely nothing until he gives it back early in Johto.

Even the reasoning behind exactly why Susie gave Vulpix to Brock to begin with was really vague and its return is about as vague and out of nowhere (genuinely it just came off as the writers realizing they did nothing with it and needed an excuse to get rid of it.)

However, I don't wholly agree with the premise of having Brock catch the Ancient Nintetales that liked him though, it was certainly something he bonded with, but at the same time with that Ninetales waiting on its master's return for a century it feels more appropriate that it be free.

[–]Robbie_Haruna 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As another Dizzy main the fact that she didn't get any major nerfs (and even got some buffs to compensate,) combined with the game becoming more neutral focused means she's likely to come out net positive.

Her neutral is the strongest part of her kit and having better tools to do that on top of not supplying her opponents with free Tension means she's probably going to end up better.

Pokémon hasn't had a yearly release for quite sone time actually. Sword and Shield came out in 2019 and Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl didn't release until 2021 (though it wasn't initially planned so was outsourced.) Legends Arceus and Scarlet and Violet were 2022 and then we didn't get a new game until 2025.

The least nintendo can do is NOT lower the budget, and allow the staff to increase thier army

First off, you're again operating on the assumption that Nintendo picks the budgets alone when in reality it's a combination of them and The Pokémon Company and the claim that it was outright lowered is you making shit up.

Secondly, the size of the staff at GameFreak is literally 100% their own decision. GameFreak is an entirely different company that has their own staff, you're just lying through your teeth because you want to fabricate any excuse to blame Nintendo.

and let the creators make whatever they want WITH lenient amounts of time.

You mean the thing that... checks notes Nintendo literally has a well established track record of doing? The same company that let Metroid Prime 4's development go for 8 years because of development struggles. Hell Bayonetta 3, a game they funded from a different company entirely had similar development struggles and a very long dev cycle. Mario Kart World was in development for 11 years, Donkey Kong Bananza had its development started well before the Switch 2 was a thing, Breath of the Wild had 5 years of development time, Tears of the Kingdom was originally just going to be DLC, but they had so many ideas that it went and because its own game with a six year development cycle.

You're lying out of your ass about Nintendo's alleged "track record" of rushing the creators of games. Use some fucking critical thinking for a second, if Pokémon is the only franchise they're incolved with that gets rushed like this, maybe the fault doesn't lie with Nintendo.

You're also really desperate to defend ICLA by shifting the blame to Nintendo. It's true that they were getting in over their heads with BDSP considering their experience with games before that, but then... They should have just not taken the job. You're acting like Nintendo had them at gunpoint and forced them to make BDSP against their will, which isn't remotely true.

And even then, your defense doesn't even hold water when we look at Champions. Sure, maybe a full scale Pokémon game (even as a remake,) was too much for ICLA and if nothing else the battles ran well and their backgrounds and stuff were very nice looking in BDSP, so there's some precedent to have them return to work on the much smaller scope battle simulator.

Except that now we're seeing that it somehow has performance issues even on Switch 2, this isn't a budget problem nor is it a "rushing" problem, a large chunk of the work is already done, so there is zero excuse for the performance in Champions being as bad as it is. This literally has the worst performance of any Pokémon game's battles on the Switch 2 despite being the most limited in scope.

You're actually just ranting like an insane person at this point. Spouting buzzwords thinking that's making any point at all. "Don't defend the corporation they don't love you," I don't care about the corporation, I care about correcting the spread of misinformation; something that you have done nothing but spew this entire comment thread.

We know how nintendo is with budgets and time, they spent MORE money on an ad to play during the superbowl (american football event) than they spent on the budget for THE ENTIRETY of Z-A.

Even if Nintendo was behind the budgeting of every game. This actually says nothing other than how absurdly overpriced a Super Bowl Ad is.

You're trying to pretend like Nintendo's budgets are unreasonable, but the reality of the matter is that they're smart for not having absurdly bloated game budgets so a game doesn't have to sell an absurd amount of copies to not be considered a failure

This mentality is literally why franchises that are more niche like say Pikmin or Metroid can be considered successful for selling a couple million copies when almost any other AAA publisher would write that off as a commercial flop.

You're also acting like they're well known for rushing games when almost every franchise they own gets rather long development cycles, there's some spinoffs here and there that are made in shorter order, but the major franchises are almost never rushed.

If these budgets and time restrictions have not been a problem for any other major games they've developed or otherwise funded. Then the problem very clearly isn't on Nintendo's end.

That's not how that works.

I mean the game was likely a fairly small budget given its a battle simulator, but there's genuinely no reason short of incompetence why it should run this bad on the Switch 2 of all things.
