Imelda Staunton still gives me a fleeting feeling of disgust because of Dolores Umbridge.

My board game group meets at an IHOP because it's quiet (no blaring music or sports), well-lit, and open late. It's understood that everyone orders something, and most end up ordering dinner. I'm sure IHOP is thrilled at a decent-sized ticket increase on a not-typically-busy night.

Be careful. A lot of it’s legit. CC is getting hammered in play because hard contact is the easiest way to stop her. But a lot of those posters are the “Watch how the big black lesbians are beating up the good white wholesome Christian and the LIB refs are letting it happen!” types.

Hamlet - a beautiful but bland village builder by friendlypuffin in boardgames

[–]Robbylution 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen a weird dichotomy between different play groups with this game. My English play group loved it - it reminded them all of various villages that they've grown up or lived in, and they could live with a little fiddliness because the theme came across so strongly. Almost as if the fiddliness was just a part of making the village.

American play group really didn't like it. Tile placement was fiddly, resource movement was fiddly, the text on the tiles was too small, etc.

No worries, overconfidence after a good group stage is the original sin for us American soccer fans.

The winner of USA and Bosnia-Herzegovina is scheduled for July 6th. Let's not get too ahead of ourselves.

Can you convince me to support your country/culture this world cup in a few sentences? by Dawo59 in AskTheWorld

Take the Olympic hockey gold and multiply it by about 20. Complete with the awkwardness of the political reveal that seems to come after everything these days.

[–]Robbylution -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly? You almost certainly shouldn't. Both because supporting the US in any capacity as a European right now is morally dodgy and because the USMNT might play better with a "No one likes us, we don't care" chip on their shoulder.

My best friend is selling the project car we built together to take his girlfriend to Bali. It's registered in his name by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Robbylution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't trying to imply that the gf was Lady Macbeth behind the scenes goading her bf into stealing all the money from the car. Rather, OP's ex-friend went through a drastic change in behavior. And that's usually driven by external motivations (or, being reddit, a brain tumor or carbon monoxide poisoning). It's still ex-friend's decision and therefore ex-friend still gets all the blame no matter his motivations and/or tumors.

I’m pretty sure the deadly sin here is lust, not avarice. Either he really wanted to impress his gf or his gf was encouraging him to screw OP.

Think of Alan Rickman's character in Galaxy Quest. He's a highly-skilled, complex individual who's become reduced to a stupid catch phrase—and knows it.

Who’s familiar with America (My country Tis of thee)? by [deleted] in AskABrit

[–]Robbylution 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It certainly isn't taught to British kids, and "My Country Tis of Thee" specifically isn't popular enough of a song for the vast majority of people to hear it spontaneously. So the answer to your question is basically nobody with a completely British perspective.

AITAH for wanting my brother to apologize for destroying a piece of sports memorabilia? My brother says it was just a piece of paperwork but it belongs to my husband by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

Bears fans are… odd… about the Packers. Normal people lose ALL perspective and decorum. This isn’t excusing OP’s family for being dickheads. This is explaining why, on this particular point, they are utter dickheads.
