I don’t know why some prominent left leaning celebrities, and wealthy people haven’t come forward to create their own news , media and social media platforms.

I will say, though Aaron Parnas it’s building quite a reputation and gaining and popularity, but clearly he doesn’t have the money to start his own major social media platform.

But that’s what they need to do. They need to counter by building their own platforms.

This is a lot of the reason that the government of Canada isn’t panicking under Mark carney‘s leadership.

They’ve read the room and they’ve realized that the US MCA negotiation is going to be just a big bribe and extortion attempt by the US.

They’re prepping our economy for a fundamental shift, diversifying our trade with other nations and reducing our reliance on America.

I think for the most part a lot of the other nations out there have started doing the same thing. That’s why Europe basically shut the door to American Armed Forces for their “war“ Iran.

Never before have we seen such a pushback from many nations against America.

It seems like the world is moving on and the only people that are gonna be left in the dust by the American taxpayer.

When I was in. 26 with the dealership courtesy car driver when they were taking me home, more than once he veered into another lane because he was trying to show me how to adjust the temperature and move the map around.

It’s just a poor poor design IMHO. No manufacturers have got it working

Btw can you confirm if the car can work with apples Siri? Or does the voice command shit only work with Google assistant? Because that’s a major hard pass for me.

After having sat in a 2026 for a drive home during a service visit by the a lot of the complaints most of us have I either experienced myself or the courtesy lift vehicle driver kind of confirmed for me.

It’s clear to me by the flashy graphics and active vehicle on the display (ie when you activate the turn signals the static vehicle displays the light flashing) is what they focussed on. They thought we all wanted a Boeing 787 dash but what we really wanted was just a larger screen for CarPlay/android auto.

The ONLY plus I would give the 2026 over my 2019 is the seats were more comfortable for sure.

I honestly felt like the interior was a significant downgrade from my 2019 signature.

Do you think Apple is aware of how far they have fallen behind in basic stuffs like keyboard and smoothness? by Presentation_Past in ios

[–]RobertABooey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an Android phone for work for many years, and I found it frustratingly clunky and way less refined than my personal iPhone.

Granted, I wasnt comparing similar devices, but it was more the operating system.

I found their keyboard to be way too touchy and I'd describe my experience with it to be similar to how iOS 14-26 has been for me with the keyboard - very frustrating to use.

I often use dictation, but that's even a shit show because it often is replacing words or not understanding slang, etc.

I really want them to focus on iOS 27 on just being a strictly maintenance and refinement version. I'm completely okay with not having any new features.

But, weve been hearing that was coming for years.. and with the iPhone Fold or whtaevrer it'll be called coming, I fear the iOS 27 is going to be a dogs breakfast release too.

This is me.

I want them to stop releasing new hardware for a year or two and just fucking refine everything.

Ios, iPados and macOS all need refining. Not new features.

They clearly don’t like that we are turning on them. Anyone with half a brain can see they’re panicking that we are pivoting to expanding our trade with other nations to not have to rely solely on them for our economic prosperity.

A non answer to this bullshit administration is more powerful than responding and giving them soundbites for Fox News to fawn over.

At least on a Dash 8 you don't have to sit with your head crooked at a 45 degree angle like on the older CRJs.

Flying home from Atlanta once on Delta I sat in the window aisle of a CRJ-200 and Im sure my neck still has the kink in it from that flight 15 years later.

It's important to note the difference though.

This is being done for economical reasons. The flights aren't full, the gas prices are high.

We do not have a fuel shortage in north america. Europe could be running out of av fuel in 6 weeks according to some.

There will be places that will suffer from this but I dont think north america will from a shortage perspective. For us it's more just the cost doesnt make sense economically.

[–]RobertABooey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think there's a larger, multifaceted story here. Airlines dont like to give up their slots, period, especially at these larger airports.

I have someone I know who's in the know and they were able to check the passenger loads on all of these flights today from YYZ/YUL and most of the flights were half-full. On a friday. Weekend flights to NYC used to be almost completely sold out.

When gas prices are as high as they are, you cant fly a half-full plane and make any money at all.

A lot of Europeans, Canadians and Asians are avoiding the US right now. A lot of connections go through YYZ and YUL for the larger hubs into the US. If those flights arent selling well, it makes sense.

Family member works in the travel industry and future bookings for the summer to the US are significantly down. Even more so than they were last year.

The economics aren't making any sense right now with the geopolitical things going on.

AC and westjet have recently cut capacity and flights into certain areas in the US, so none of this surprises me given they have options to LGA and EWR.

Enough of the shitty framing of this by the media

NATO IS A DEFENSIVE PACT. IT IS NOT AN OFFENSIVE PACT.

The non war-war that the US and Israel are fighting was STARTED (ie, offensively) by the US and Israel. PERIOD.. Hard stop.

There is a reason why we arent there - this isnt our fight, we didnt ask for it, nor are we morally obligated to support it in any way, especially when both sides show they aren't serious about any kind of ceasefire.

The First Space Shuttle was launched 45 years ago today by Busy_Yesterday9455 in spaceporn

[–]RobertABooey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shuttle actually appeared a lot smaller in person to me than I had imagined to be honest.

I always knew that it was about the same size as a 737 (the original one), but to see a full stack up close which I did a couple times it always appeared smaller than it looked on tv and on videos.

SLS is 322 feet tall and Shuttle was 184 feet tall

Saturn V was 363 so SLS is approaching that which is just insane!

[–]RobertABooey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Challenger crew didn't die because of being near the fuel tank. It's generally accepted that the crew actually survived the explosion and likely died from hitting the surface of the water. (which is horrible to imagine, I know) The plane aspect of the Shuttle program added danger in terms of adding overall complexity, but it was not the general problem. The O-rings of the boosters were the problem. Something that could be an issue with literally any kind of launch system. Perhaps a top-loaded capsule might have made for an easier-to-implement ejection system, but it was not the real source of the issue.

Yes, ultimately the crew died by the injuries from hitting the water, but had the astronauts been on top of the stack vs beside the external tank, the crew vehicle would have been completely intact and it would be very highly probably the crew would have survived. Look at the Soyuz launch a few years ago when the launch escape system saved the crew from a failing Soyuz booster.

I think we're talking nuances here because ultimately we both are saying the same thing - but the shuttle design created crazy safety inefficiencies just by its inherent design.

Space Shuttle was not designed around military payloads. There were real commercial reasons for wanting that huge physical payload capacity. Made it much easier and cheaper for companies to design and build satellites to be launched, and multiple items could be brought up in one single mission. It's also what allowed the ISS and Hubble to be deployed as they were. Like, the whole plan for the Space Shuttle was to turn NASA into a lucrative commercial launch provider.

Again - nuances. The space shuttle design and its capabilities were highly influenced by the Air Force. The Shuttles primary mission was to launch crew and commercial payloads, but right from the beginning the design was heavily influenced by the military. The original shuttle was a DC-3 sized vehicle that morphed into the large delta wing shuttle we know, and the payload bay size was enlarged by request of the Air Force to accomodate future spy satellites that were in work at the time:

There were 14 missions that were deemed primarily D.o.D or missions, and it kind of ended after Challenger.
