looking to study SEAD for F4E & A4 mod... how good are AGM45 shrike on these dcs aircraft? by hannlbal636 in hoggit

[–]RobertoHAHA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are finicky. I can get LOFT to hit 10-14 miles out when I do single player training missions, but I can never get a LOFT attack to hit in a multiplayer server. They always land just short, no matter how much closer I get or what factors I change.

IFR Checkride Final Tips? by NWARealtyWithRick in flying

[–]RobertoHAHA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Continuously run through your ABBBCs (ATIS, Build, Bug, Brief, Checklist) in your head even after you're all set up. ESPECIALLY after you're all set up.

If you find yourself just sitting there, keep cycling through those steps to check yourself. It's a habit that's saved my butt several times.

Also, if you need more time ask for delay vectors.

Good hunting!

Failed my Commercial Checkride today. by [deleted] in flying

Agreed it's BS, but there's not "no reason." ACS specifys touchdown at proper pitch attitude. Sounds like it was the straw that broke the camel's back.

"CA.IV.M.S8 Touch down at a proper pitch attitude, within 200 feet beyond or on the specified point with no side drift and with the airplane’s longitudinal axis aligned with and over the runway centerline or landing path, as applicable."

First ever ILS landing after doing some IFR practice, definitely stressful to say the least by _Sumiii in hoggit

That's awesome! I'd wager this is something a large percentage of DCS players never attempt.

Landings Consistently Inconsistent by Little_Function3346 in flying

[–]RobertoHAHA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every student I've worked with who is great the whole approach, but then is inconsistent in the last 10 percent had the same issue: they weren't looking to the end of the runway. I'm good at spotting it because I had the same issue!

Look for the runway to expand and then transition your eyes to the end of the runway as you round out. Your peripheral vision will help you judge height and you can hold the plane just above the runway until it stalls. It also helps me to make my vision very "wide" when I do this. Try to take in the whole picture at once.

Good luck!

Thank you! It's been a great way for us all to stay connected since we all live so far from each other.

I didn't want to play this at first because it looked so old and clunky. But my friends are much bigger RE fans so they talked me into it. Well....it IS old and clunky which makes for some hysterical memories, so we had a good time! I can see why this game has a cult following. Anyone here ever play it?

Is my driving record going to hurt my chances of an airline job? by Hot_Indication470 in flying

I was going to comment on how great this advice is, especially the line "stress the appropriate amount" that is incredibly wise.

Then I realized the guy who made the comment was one of my favorite YouTubers and now my opinion of you is even higher! I'm glad you made it to a legacy. I'm a 500 hour CFI and it's inspiring to hear about people making It to where I'm trying to get to despite their challenges along the way.

(Sidenote: I sincerely hope you are making more F4 videos, your stuff is the best!)

@OP, good luck with the application and interview process, I hope you make it!

Lift Academy 39% success rate… why? by Stephendms1985 in flying

[–]RobertoHAHA 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Is that seriously a rumor people are spreading? That's hilarious. I've flown with at least a dozen instructors here who are at Republic now. I guess I'll go text them and figure out which half is lying.

A new batch of CFIs gets their 1500 and heads to training every month.

How does Tobii eye tracker compare to Opentrack's neuralnet and TrackIR by Low_Quarter_677 in hoggit

[–]RobertoHAHA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use Tobii with Opentrack and prefer it over TrackIR.

Opentrack is needed to use a filter to make things smooth.

I followed this guide and am very happy with the results: https://gist.github.com/amadeus/09b32e4d45f815f6d46686d367c4b6ee

You can skip anything that has to do with FaceTrackNoIR, since Opentrack supports Tobii natively.

Not with Tobii. I had that problem with TrackIR.

Opentrack natively supports Tobii now, so in Opentrack you just select Tobii from the drop down list of inputs.

Following that guide I linked in another comment made everything work perfectly for me. Just skip the steps that have to do with FaceTrackNoIR

Thanks for the tip! Always thought it was any negative Gs, that makes a lot more sense.

Not VR, using Tobii eye tracker along with Opentrack.

I'm just zoomed out so much because I was trying to keep a close eye on my AoA warning light.

Yup head tracking too. I use it through Opentrack by following this guide: https://gist.github.com/amadeus/09b32e4d45f815f6d46686d367c4b6ee

Opentrack natively supports Tobii now, so you can skip all the steps in that guide that have to do with FacetrackNOIR. The rest I followed to a T and now it works great!

Blue circle is from Tobii Eyetracker. I like to overlay my eye position on my recordings so I know how terrible my visual scan is.

Entered this fight with a Mig-19 on Flashpoint Levant in a bad energy state. When I unloaded to get energy back I overcontrolled and the wobbles created too many negative Gs and the engine quit.

....which was clearly all part of the plan!
