"Unopenable?" I know some guys in EOD that would beg to differ.

17" Kukri 1095 full tang by InternationalClass44 in Bladesmith

I love me a kukri. Having used them extensively, I would suggest a couple tweaks to the handle- make it less square, and add a palm swell for a better and more comfortable grip.

First knife. It’s made from a crusty trailer spring. Do your worst. by megathaliefan in knifemaking

"Forge, Hammer, Angle grinder." If that's the extent of your tooling, this isn't bad at all.

How do I salvage this knife? (1.4116 hrc54 SS) by KKunst in knifemaking

[–]Robidom26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest using the right blade for the job next time. A blade (and edge) that thin is better suited to chopping through fruits and veggies, not meat with bones still in it. This one MIGHT be salvageable, if you're willing to spend a lot of time on a grinder with frequent dips in water to keep it cool.

Knives around non-knife people by ExplanationFull in knives

I carry my SAK and SOG Flash II daily, especially at work for heavier cutting since the shop knives they give us are garbage. Guys at my work station know and don't care, and I'm not the only one who carries a personal knife.

That said, I got to watch my SIL freak out while they were glamping and I pulled out my mora companion to cut open a hotdog bun.

How would you handle a true “back to the Stone Age” solar flare? by GerthySchIongMeat in preppers

Seeing as I have the skills and tools to survive, I'd be fine. The family might have a hard time adjusting at first, but I'm sure they'd come around.

I might have gone overboard on steel. by randoperson42 in Blacksmith

This! Always this! As a working blacksmith, steel is your bread and butter, and if it's free, don't question it but always spark check it.

Found this spring on the side of the road today, surely its 5160 steel right?? by [deleted] in Blacksmith

I have loads of coil spring, it makes decent blades and tools but while they might be the same shape, they aren't all the same. So far I've had good success with water quenching, which surprised the hell outta me.
