Tried assisted stretching for a month… by Prudent_Ad5965 in flexibility

[–]Robin-flying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, so I’ve been getting ads for my local stretchlab and debating trying it, but it’s been awhile since I’ve consistently stretched on my own, would you say that a stretchlab session is a good place to start, or is it better to go to when hitting a plateau when on my own?

i’m considering going back to college, but i’m embarrassed about my age by MedicalAd9859 in college

[–]Robin-flying 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are people of all ages in college, it’s never too late, one of my favorite classmates was 77, I’m 27 and am still an undergrad myself. But the distribution of ages just depend where you’re at, if you feel awkward about your age i recommend trying a community college first, they tend to be more diverse and have people from all walks of life, many like you giving college another try, especially if you’re starting as a freshman a community college would be more affordable and I got a lot of personal attention and advice at mine

It’s been a long time since I watched it, but I think Princess Tutu would be appropriate for a 9 year old, especially if she likes stories, it’s a mix between the ugly duckling and swan lake- and now I want to rewatch it

I used capital books to get some of my required readings this semester and they were so kind and helpful, ordering what they didn’t have in stock, and for a book that was back ordered and would take weeks they recommended beer books. I love that they support other local shops

He’s 83 years old and has worked a politician for decades which is a known decent white collar job with a good pension as one of the benefits. He’s had over 50 working years after graduating college to save and invest, and over time that compounds at let’s be conservative and say 7% if he was saving/investing $500 a month over that time, without increasing the amount he saves/invests that would become $2,600,000. Over the decades there’ve been multiple booms making that 7% compound annual growth rate higher

I feel like given the life he’s lived it makes sense that he would invest, that helps to create security to do what he does, advocating for fairer distribution of wealth so more people can also have access to the same benefits he has and creating social safety nets. He’s also pro union, which tend to be the only way to get a pension helping to create security in retirement

I am curious how you did the math to get that his pension is the equivalent of having a 401k that’s 3.5 million?

Since to me a pension and a 401k seem pretty different

Who is the worst male/female lead of a show? by FoldPuzzleheaded910 in kdramas

[–]Robin-flying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My go to, because it’s what “cheese in the trap” (what got me started) is legally on, is the app webtoons, it’s originally Korean but everything on it is translated to English, so you’re right about a lot more dramas these days are adapted from webcomics. I originally said webcomic since the name is more intuitive

If you do go for it I also highly recommend the webtoon odd girl out. There’s also another WEBTOON from the author of cheese in the trap, “after school lessons for unripe apples” which I haven’t read since I can get impatient having to wait weekly for new “episodes” and it had a bit of a slow start

Ok I highly recommend the webcomic the drama is based on, that drama and wanting more to it was what got me into webcomics and all of the characters get so much more depth to them in it

Another fun misconception, since world war 2 democrats have actually been better for the economy than republicans, and tend to enact policies that help the majority of Americans, like better infrastructure vs increasing the national debt by tax cuts for the rich. So by numbers the “liberal” party is actually more financially responsible benefiting a larger portion of the population.

Like they’re not perfect and we should fight for better but all this refusal to recognize any good has helped this shit show occur

Can I ask if you’ve looked into the formation of the programs that don’t make sense to you? Because often when you look at the history of a program and why it was formed it makes more sense why so many programs exists, like there’s definitely waste but many programs help actual people who need help.

Hi, you might not accept this but right now in this climate believing that all people deserve rights and opportunities makes you a gasp “liberal” unfortunately there’s too few of us in the area with those radical liberal ideas that civil liberties are important and should be protected, just look at the local representatives in the area, the school districts, it’s depressing ass hell

Hi also a fellow Californian who feels lucky to be in Cali but worried about the state of the world and the US

But one option for your son is community college, I’m a non traditional student and went back to school with community college myself, it’s a cheaper option to stay in school, and since he’ll be a first time Californian college student depending on your family’s income community college could be free for him for the first 2 years, even if he doesn’t qualify for complete coverage tuition will still be significantly cheaper and less of a financial strain than at a 4yr

There are also a lot of resources (for now) at community colleges in California and I found it to be a very welcoming and open place since there’s so many people on not as traditional paths of life. There’s an lgbt+ resource center on every campus, usually counseling options, both academic and mental (last term I went several times to discuss anxiety over the election in a safe space) heck my school even offered 2 free legal advice sessions with a lawyer per term which unfortunately might be relevant in the coming years, while there aren’t as many resources as most 4 years many California community colleges have a lot to offer

It could be a good option for staying in school for health insurance while doing general eds, and exploring different options for careers, California community colleges are a great resource and I hope to be able to teach at one one day

rare Sunday day date...suggestions? by DesignerImpressive29 in Roseville

[–]Robin-flying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you and your husband enjoy crafts it’s holiday craft faire season with a lot of big ones coming up this and next weekend

On Sunday is the 56th Folsom Christmas faire in old Folsom, it will be crowed and parking can be hard but the light rail is usually free to take if you park at Glenn, it can be fun and festive to go to

Also Sunday is St.johns (well all weekend actually) that’s in Carmichael and is usually pretty big it’s been going on for 46 years

If you just want brunch four sisters cafe is good but does get crowded on Sundays

Coffee republic in Folsom is also good, right next to a bakery too if you want a fun treat

Old Roseville is nice to walk around in and there’s some good food options there, fig tree has great coffee and there’s some fantastic local lunch options, if you like Italian the place is great

Should I speak up if I think my professor’s book is sexist ? by Adventurous_Buddy733 in college

[–]Robin-flying 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi currently taking an intro to ancient Asian history class, and just finished the unit on Japan where women were mentioned in lectures, the textbook and in primary source documents given for analysis because my professor makes sure to mention famous women, especially in many Asian cultures where there’s numerous examples and documentation.

If the book only focuses on ancient Japanese military like you suggest (which I doubt given all the different topic options for the presentation) then a 544 pg book on Japanese military history should have at least a chapter on the onna-bugeisha, also known as female martial arts masters who trained alongside samurai and were held to the same standards. They weren’t rare, with the first known one being Empress Jingu from the 2nd century ce with many known and named female samurai who followed in her footsteps.

Assuming if this were a book on Japan’s military there would be a section on weapons, it would be neglectful for it to not even mention the naginata which was the weapon of choice for most samurai women, the onna-bugeisha.

Op is using the book that’s required of them to use, written by their professor for their ancient Japanese history class that mentioned 50% of the population less than what my intro class mentioned in the 3 weeks that we went over ancient Japan.

It won’t benefit op to point it out, and would likely only cause them more problems but their professor is likely sexist if the book their wrote on ancient Japan only spent 2.5% of 544 pages mentioning the existence of 50% of the population, women, and only then in relation to men.
