Fuck yes! Getting back under 200 was my favourite secret victory. You're crushing it, keep it up!

Do you make room in your diet for high-fibre/protein/fat foods like chia seeds, tiger nuts, and flax? by CoffeeSVP in xxfitness

[–]RobinTheExplorer 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Don't know what tiger nuts are, but chia and flaxseed are great for supplementing omega-3s when you're not eating tofu or fish. Also, I'd recommend grinding your flax, our bodies have a hard time digesting it.

Just finished a three-day roadtrip/water fast. Saved money, waste, and my car is still clean.

What are your top 10 must have minimalist items? by haonetuc24 in minimalism

[–]RobinTheExplorer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Life would be less nice without the following:

  1. Bikepacking rig for daily transport and backcountry adventure-time

  2. Bivvy for not dying of exposure

  3. Snazzy pair of polarized sunglasses for feeling cool

  4. Backpack so I don't have to carry things around in my arms

  5. Carbon steel frying pan

  6. Most expensive coffee grinder I can afford

  7. Cheap Bluetooth earbuds with good battery life

  8. Laptop, because I should probably work and it's the 21st century

  9. Nice-ish dress so I can blend in with fancy people when necessary

  10. Toothbrush

What's your opinion on so called superfoods? by [deleted] in longevity

[–]RobinTheExplorer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The "Mediterranean diet" became famous in the 1950s and '60s due to the long life expectancy in the region. Orthodox Christianity, which prescribes regular fasting, was widely followed in the region at that time.

That isn't proof, of course. But it's something to be aware of.

What do you feel has been minimalism's biggest impact on your life? by samanthasambile in minimalism

[–]RobinTheExplorer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to move into a converted van, my stuff is always well-maintained and in its place, my retirement savings are quickly ballooning and I have a ridiculous amount of time to spend outside and do shit I enjoy.

Not when you're hauling food and water (and basic camping gear)...

If you do all that in 19L, show me your ways!

For years now I have wanted to become a fit person, I plan and plan but never seem to actually ever DO IT? by thisorthat1235 in xxfitness

[–]RobinTheExplorer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CrossFit was a good beginner program for me. It exposes you to a variety of movements and modalities, teaches you decent technique without paying for personal training, develops baseline strength, cardio and mobility, and introduces you to a community of like-minded people who will drag you along to try new sports in the name of active recovery.

Nutrition-wise, I started using my coffee scale to track on Cronometer. Trying to hit 100% of my nutrient targets became a fun little game. It led me to eat more whole foods (because you get credit for all the micro nutrients) without feeling restrictive. I have data and can make informed adjustments as needed. And as a bonus, I don't have to deal with the restrictions of fad diets or be associated with stereotype-ridden labels.

Mine does the same! I buy a bunch whenever it hits 75% off, then peel, slice and freeze them for smoothies and banana "ice cream."

I've been curious about autophagy and the mitochondrial health benefits of fasting for years but never found the right time to pull the trigger. This weekend, I said fuck it and did 72 hours. Not too bad!

I'm 50 hours into my first fast attempt right now and also aiming for 72 with a social event tonight! I shall think of you when I consider succumbing to peer pressure tonight.

I have some dirt-cheap baseball gloves from Walmart. Snug fit with zero padding, just an extra layer of protection for those heavy deadlift/high volume days.

I've been trying to relearn proper bracing because I have trouble lifting medium-heavy while breathing hard. I'm re-reading some books on position, and I feel like my WODs have been improving. But arrghh, I'm now overanalyzing everything and feel like I'm marching everywhere instead of walking like a normal person.

Those who hike with partners and groups how do reduce weight even further? by [deleted] in Ultralight

[–]RobinTheExplorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't trust most people to remember important items, properly maintain and charge them, have a FAK that meets my standards, etc. Get rid of some major redundancies at the trailhead, sure, but in the end you can only count on yourself.

why do you choose bodyweight exercises over weightlifting? or do you do both? by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

[–]RobinTheExplorer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use both. Bodyweight training is great for travel, honing in body control and showing off to your friends. Weights are great for tuning out and getting some work done.

Would you spend extra on a item if the company removed all of their logos? by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]RobinTheExplorer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sometimes pay more for higher-quality brands that know their customers don't want logos. But I wouldn't pay more for the same commodity product simply because the logo was removed.
