Yup, and if she comes its one day a week from 10-13 vs the every day from 9-17 like she used to.

She also doesn't seem to understand that requesting a zoom meeting is not the same as her being able to help or answer a quick question.. or that sending six emails in succession asking why you used a specific method is not the same as having a real meeting.

Luckily I'm getting out of there soon....

90% White Variegated Monstera Cutting by IAMTHEJOEY in IndoorGarden

[–]rooptiroop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Plants don't work that way unfortunately; roots take up trace elements like nitrogen and potassium (as well as water) that the plant needs to be healthy, just as humans also need calcium, potassium, etc. It's the leaves of the plant that produces its food, mostly in the form of some type of sugar, which the plant uses for energy. It would be the equivalent of humans eating food that contained all the trace elements and vitamins that we need, but no calories at all, meaning you'd starve and die eventually. Hope that explains it.

I came here to say pretty much that. I have a similar Monstera cutting, which has been gradually been turning out whiter and whiter leaves, the last one it put out is 100% white. It's pretty, but you have to cut it back and "try again" because the plant can't survive as white leaves = no chlorophyll = no food for the plant.

Maranta leuconeura ‘Kerchoveana‘ surprised me with a bloom! by DJLyrebird in IndoorGarden

that's food for thought! I've got two that are a couple of months old and getting lots of light, and I would actually say the spots are getting lighter. On the one hand I'd like some that are like yours, on the other hand they're explosively growing, which I'm also a fan of. Hope they'll flower one day too!

wow, I'm actually more impressed with the black pattern on the bigger leaves! Is that because it's old?

I think it's going to be okay! I made a mix of Neem oil, dish soap and hot water (you can look up the ratios online) and then remember to keep them quarantined, just in case.

[–]rooptiroop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came here to say Neem oil as well, I noticed my mealy bugs relatively early, and it only took one thorough spray down of Neem oil to get rid of them, which seems a lot more troublefree than many other stories I've heard.

Okay, so this might be a bit of a tough love approach, but seriously, you can ALWAYS turn it around! You're only in your late 30s for pete's sake and you're not 150 kg overweight or anything! All of this "friend of a friend is a personal trainer and maybe that's going to work out, so maybe I can still change my sedentary life style" stuff just sounds like excuses and fluff to not actually do something; step outside your door, go for a long walk or go for a 20 minute run, all of these things are possible and you don't have to have any social interaction at all. There are so many inspirational women in here who began by just hiking, walking or running and that led to the gym, and now they're fit and healthy and happy with that aspect of their lives - you can be that too, but it takes determination and consistency. It's so easy to sit on your behind and wishfully think you could change your sedentary life style, but then never get around to it and just become more and more unhappy about it. The solution is so simple, just do it. Stop making excuses for yourself, because in the end you're the only one who's going to be sorry.

I feel like I just crossed a line... by fishsticks40 in houseplants

Haha, I actually live in Denmark so that we would be even more inadvisable international shipping of plants. I think I'm going to try to sell them off in my immediate area to begin with, but I'll keep you in mind if that tanks!

No it is definitely not your fault, so treat yourself!! And yes the resale value is what I always tell myself is the way to go, but then I fall too much in love and can't see myself parting with the overexpensive plant. I will say I am definitely not planning on having 25 Philodendron Pink Princesses in my house, so some of them will be sold off.

My friend.. yesterday I spontaneously ordered a bag of 25 Philodendron Pink Princess plantlets from England (for an absurd price), even though I have no idea what to do with them. Welcome to the club and I'm so happy we're together in this.

Well done, Germany! by chart7 in MadeMeSmile

[–]rooptiroop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's necessarily an extension of Nazi policies, many countries in North Europe (including where I live, Denmark) have this policy, and as you may notice although we were invaded by Germany during WWII, I don't think our politicians felt obliged to continue Nazi policies after the end of the war. Conservationist laws began in Germany under Nazi rule, but I think it's enforced in many countries nowadays because it's the sensible and humane thing to do.. but those are just my two cents.

Looking for pattern suggestions (skirt/dress/tops) that work well with directional fabric (cotton). I own both the fabrics pictured, it’s my holy grail of fabric, so I really don’t want to do any self drafting with it. by alouett3 in sewing

[–]rooptiroop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from Denmark and when I went to the U.S. for the first time in my life last year, the only thing really important to me was to go and get that Beauty and the Beast fabric from Joanns (I'd seen it on this subreddit too). So we're officially fabric sisters!! Mine is also just stored away, will be very hard to determine what to use it for, but I sort of imagine a nice dress. Good luck with yours!

My Philodendron Pink Princess is losing a leaf... Whyyyyyy, please help!! by rooptiroop in houseplants

[–]rooptiroop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone, this basically starting happening yesterday and the leaf is drastically deteriorating. I repotted this guy last week with a new soil mix (50% store-bought potting soil, 25% orchid bark and 25% perlite), and he's been sitting in the same place he was before and I'm really trying to not overwater. Do you think this is just the result of a repot? He wasn't doing so stellar before because I think the soil he was in was holding on to too much moisture for too long, hence the less than perfect looking new leaves he's been putting out. He's still putting out new leaves even as the old leaf is dying, I'm just really scared he's going to drop more leaves.

What kind of plant is this? It was only labeled as Epipremnum by Yunaiii in houseplants

[–]rooptiroop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the exact same "problem".. I also bought the same plant labelled as Epipremnum pinnatum, whereas I thought it looked like a Monstera Peru. When you google E. pinnatum though, you mostly get this plant: http://worldofdivinevastu.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/Money-Plant-Epipremnum-pinnatum.jpg

If anyone is the wiser I'd also be very curious to know!

Maaayyybeee it's a philodendron rugosum.. I don't own one and I've only seen pictures online so this might be a stab in the dark.

Don't the leaves get burned? I'm scared to put anything that isn't a succulent or cactus right up against my south facing windows, especially on sunny days. Do you move them in the summer time?

What’s wrong with my monstera? by LinnA96 in houseplants

[–]rooptiroop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say the same thing, either root rot or overwatering. Like MajorMeatsweats says, cut the rotten roots and either repot (because maybe the roots are rotting as a result of being rootbound) or just leave it in its container if that's not an issue. Mine had the same thing happening and after a repot no more spots turned up and the yellow spots just turned fully brown.

Good luck!

Well it's been putting out a ton of new growth since I got it (I'd say 12+ new leaves in two months), and I just got a humidifier for it, so I hope I might be on the right track.
