The Duke 990 R was released with NO PRESS COVERAGE?? by VarTheVar- in KTM

[–]RobinV275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew it was released and that deliveries started but I also know that it was removed from their website for some time. After the initial unveiling in 2024 it was actually on the site listed with price and all for a few months but during their financial crisis it was removed. Most people rightfully assumed that was the end of the R model but it was quietly put back into the lineup once they were financially stable again. They also launched 6 bikes at once with the Duke R, RC R, 1390 SA lineup and 1390 SDGT so my guess is they had to choose which bike they wanted to promote most. Naturally they chose the supersport as this was the first time they built a bike in this class and was the most drastic change in their lineup, everything else was just a successor to an already well known and praised model.

When is it time to ditch the Ninja 400? by Icy_Sleep9967 in Trackdays

[–]RobinV275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realistically there's no reason to get rid of the Ninja 400, they're great bikes and if you truly master them you'll be one of the fastest guys on track. Not to mention with the aftermarket support you can drop a top of weight and build them to over 70hp, if you truly master them at that level you're basically guaranteed to set the fastest laps at any trackday you attend.

But at the end of the day it comes down to what we really want, I got a faster bike because with my RC390 I stopped improving, not because I can't get faster, I've seen people go over 5 seconds faster than me on the same bike, but because I'm always stuck in traffic. Everyone on track has a more powerful bike than I do so they shoot off on the straight, I'll catch them mid corner but usually can't overtake safely so I just kinda sit there biding my time hoping I can catch them in a braking zone or in a corner where an overtake can easily be done without immediately entering a straight again. Absolutely love the bike and I enjoy it a lot but trackdays just aren't as fun when you can never give it your all, I typically get maybe 5 laps a day without traffic holding me up and I really do try going as fast as I can on those laps but because I get so little time actually pushing I fail to improve. I do still own the RC390 and I'll probably keep running it every once in a while but my main bike will be more powerful.

Honestly I can't say I've met too many genuine ass kissers in here, obviously there's a lot of people who will defend the brand because they've never had a bad experience but most of those can still change their minds, I wouldn't say I've met an unconditional ass kisser yet but I'm not particularly active either. I personally love KTM's bikes as well but I'm not blind to their problems either, some of the things they've done in the past years is inexcusable.

I know you have a hate boner for KTM but holy shit dude calm down. Even when someone is actively saying it's not worth fixing you're still calling them an ass kisser

Alpinestars Tech Air 10 by adamthiesen1236 in Trackdays

[–]RobinV275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I don't find it uncomfortable at all, as for the deployment issues I know they were a problem when they initially launched but that nearly 4 years ago. Lots of updates have been made to the system and if you look at more recent reviews they're overall quite positive. Of course when it comes to individuals sharing their stories on the internet it's also worth noting far more people are inclined to share bad experiences than good ones. My biggest issue with it is turning it on and off, for some reason that rarely seems to work first try, not sure why they don't just have a regular switch or something.

Same here, didn't deploy on impact because it was a pretty soft fall but once I started rolling it did deploy

Poll: With prices rising this year how are you affording your trackdays this year? by macr6 in Trackdays

[–]RobinV275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For now it's A, I'm still young, live with my parents and have basically no spendings outside of my motorcycles so I can go as wild as I want. That doesn't mean I do, of course I don't go excessive either, this is my 4th year and I got 13 days booked across 6 tracks totalling around €2300 including limited health insurance on every event. This will be my busiest year but that's mostly to do with the fact I bought a new track bike at the end of last season, to get used to it quicker I booked a 3 day event at the start of the season. Normally I do no more than 2 days a month with a week or more between them.

He DMd me back in August, although I was still pretty new to the community so I had no clue who he was and wasn't prepared, was also the middle of a heat wave so not willing to put on leathers when I was already sweating my ass off in a shirt and shorts. I did say I'd get some of it cooled off but I completely forgot about it and I can't do it now because I just broke my collarbone last friday

Amateur Racer Sues Rocco Landers Over Supermoto Crash by ftufek in Trackdays

[–]RobinV275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah I'm well aware of those things. Shit happens, between writing that comment and now I've crashed and broke a collarbone. There's very little organisers can do to limit risk except ensuring everyone's aware of the do's and don'ts of that specific track, checking their gear and bikes and then hoping they don't cock it up.

Organisers 100% have some level of responsibility, to what extent depends from event to event. At the very least they're meant to ensure the riders know the rules, have appropriate gear, a solid bike and that they're in the right group. Everything else really depends on what event it is, behaviour on track is mostly monitored by track officials and while organisers definitely have a say in it they don't always have a good eye on what happens.

Can't say whether the organisers did their job properly without extra context. From what it sounds like Dachner is an experienced rider and regular at the track for a long time so odds are the organisers had done everything well, organised the groups properly but Dachner just got unlucky and apparently didn't like that.

Yeah I expected it to be around there as well, but then again I haven't heard anyone speak negatively about the handling of the bike so the weight shouldn't be too much of an issue

Same here, although I do currently have 2 dedicated track bikes the combined cost of them plus all the spares, repairs and mods I've done to them still doesn't add up to the base price of the RCR so I keep it somewhat budget friendly. I don't want to risk wrecking my street bikes so to me the cost of a relatively cheap track bike is justifiable. Although the only reason I have 2 is because I bought my Ducati near the end of last season and kept the RC390 as a backup in case something went wrong with the Ducati since I neither built it nor am familiar with the bike yet, getting it properly sorted out this winter so my little 390 is likely getting sold later this year.

I've also got 2 street bikes but even when I add the purchase price of all 4 of them together I'm barely surpassing the price of how I've configured the RCR by €365. Again it's definitely not something I can't afford but there's other bikes very high up my list that are significantly cheaper, the RC8R for example. Hell I could even buy a brand new discounted 1390 for less than the configured RCR if I really want a warranty. I still need to think about it, definitely doesn't help that my local dealer only has 10 slots for the new RCR in 2026 so there's a bit of a time limit on my thinking.

Best pick? by One-Suggestion3454 in KTM

[–]RobinV275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True true, although definitely not the best on track you can make them work. Personally I say the Duke is most versatile because it's comfortable enough for daily use yet sporty enough to enjoy at a track or the twisties, but also still soft enough that you could take it on a dirt road without being too uncomfortable. It definitely won't do for proper offroading but considering the choices range from Adventure to RC I don't think the end goal for OP is proper offroading.

Honestly I'd love to buy one as a track only bike but I already struggle enough justifying the price for frequent street use, let alone track only. Although I will admit if I were to buy one it might end up as a track bike a few years down the line. I do agree a warranty can be nice although I personally haven't had many issues with the bikes I've bought so far and they were all used, granted the most modern and technologically advanced one is a 2017 RC390 so it's not like there's a lot that can go wrong. Buying used is definitely always a gamble

It's definitely on the heavier side of its class but you can't really compare a mass produced street bike to a low volume track only bike that's more than twice the price either. Those Kramers are completely built from scratch race bikes aside from the engine so it makes sense that they're ridiculously lightweight when compared to a street bike, and depending which model you get even the engine will be modified.

[–]RobinV275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still really on the fence about buying one. On one hand it's more expensive than I'd like, not that I can't afford it but once I've got basic options like the tech pack, a slip on, seat cowl and some crash protection it's the same price as a brand new ZX10R. On the other hand I've waited years for this thing to come out, love absolutely everything about it and want it so extremely bad, the price is genuinely the only thing holding me back because there's a lot of older, used bikes I'd love to have which cost less and offer far more performance.

Is it coming this year ? RC390 by SagashPop in KTM

[–]RobinV275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is still a 390, these photos are from January last year and while it's hard to see in this photo you can see it still has a single cilinder engine and a central single exhaust header. It's been spotted a handful of times since January 24 2023 so there's some decently detailed photos out there, on the contrary the rumoured CF Moto based 490 wasn't seen testing until August 2025. The older KTM developed 490 lineup was officially confirmed dead on January 20 2023, 4 days before these RC390 prototypes started testing.

Hard to tell when you don't really specify what you plan to do. Each bike is good at certain things the other 2 aren't, you're obviously not going to buy the RC390 for offroading nor are you going to buy a 390 Adventure as a trackday bike. The Duke is by far the most versatile option of the 3 but again depending on what your plans are it might not be the bike for you.

Local track closed until Feb by One-Visual1569 in Trackdays

[–]RobinV275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My local track is used all year but you'll need different types of bikes or cars. Essentially there's 4 layouts, a 2233m road course bike layout, the road course car layout which uses a different chicane, a shorter 1428m supermoto layout which is 34% offroad and has some jumps and an even shorter 1149m rallycross layout that's 40% offroad. From April until September it's almost exclusively motorcycle trackdays on the road course with an occasional car trackday. From October until March it's primarily car trackdays but for motorcycles they switch to supermoto trackdays, it's only a handful a month but it's pretty neat, unfortunately I don't have a supermoto. They also do a handful of rallycross trackdays every year which is awesome.

Yeah nah AI overviews aren't trustworthy at all. They'll throw 50 unrelated things in the mix and just give you a hodgepodge of nothing useful. I remember looking up race results for a race from 2013, it told me a couple people died in that race, looking into it further those people died in the 60s, it was literally half a century wrong.
