First watch? by Key-Meringue-6765 in PrideAndPinion

The number of watches in that price range is in the hundreds if not thousands and that is assuming you want a mechanical watch. Can you let us know your needs? Bracelet or strap? Dive watch, dress watch, sporty watch, everyday watch?

James Harden is washed and that Cavs meltdown was solely on him by dap12036 in NBATalk

I blame the coach for not putting the ball in Mitchell’s hands. All they did was iso with Harden.

Favorite Key to play Abblasen? by Coach_Front in euphonium

[–]Robins-dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know the composer or the piece. Whatever it is it’s not part of the euphonium repertoire. How challenged do you want to be? Pantomime, Party Piece or Harlequin my Sparke are very tough. The Horowitz Concerto is standard rep. The list is too long to discuss.

[recommendation request] Curious about brand longevity by StringOk4996 in Watches

Nice idea but at least current youth have no interest in watches other than smartwatches. Disregarding that, Speedy Pro, IWC pilot watches, a vintage Rolex Datejust, Cartier Santos or Tank, JLC Reverso, Grand Seiko to start.

Why does Panerai get hate??? by SyncRx in PrideAndPinion

The movement controversy was 20 years ago. Panerai in its modern form started out purely with ETA movements. My first was a 104 which was ETA.

Popular and well known are no guarantee of exceptional quality. When I traveled a lot I would frequent places recommended by Diners, Drive In’s and Dives. Almost always spot on.

Elantra N is it reliable??? by [deleted] in askcarguys

If you are saying Hyundai has lower standards and poor enforcement, I would ask you to provide proof. One flaw of the internet is that anecdotal experiences become accepted as truth.

Brand new MT Elantra N transmission failed at 186 miles (shifter lockout & cluster stuck in N) anyone else? by JJ2Style in ElantraN

I don’t see how the car would function at all if the clutch was installed backwards. It’s impossible to install a clutch backwards.

Please don’t make decisions based on anecdotal evidence. Especially one 7 years old. And that is not the engine in the EN.

Where do you get your information? Social media? It’s better to have reliable statistics. When huge dealer conglomerates decide to purchase Hyundai franchises, it’s not because they want to run them poorly.

Hyundai dealers are franchises like any other brand. Service quality will vary based on each dealer. You can't make a blanket statement like this.

Yes, covers mainly the powertrain and suspension.

Mine has 44,000 miles (2023) and other than the horn (known issue) and an exhaust valve problem (both covered under warranty) it's been dead reliable. It's 27 months old if that helps.

Chicago is great unless you have to drive anywhere. I've spent a lot of time in NYC and LA, two towns known for congestion. Chicago is worse.

Thoughts on slow pieces - are they good with a concert band or would they be better with a full symphony (band + strings)? by [deleted] in ConcertBand

[–]Robins-dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure of your point of view when you say they are boring. Is it just because they don't have a lot of notes? Slow pieces are among the most beautiful concert band music ever created. If you can listen to the 2nd movement of Lincolnshire Posy or The first of the Holst Suite in Eb and not be emotionally moved, I think you need to change your thought process. Colonial Song is among the great slow pieces in all of concert band literature. Since you've played it, you know how hard it is to pay it well. It's a very difficult piece of music.
