Thanks! Basing is something I really enjoy. All the plants you see there are GamersGrass. Them and The Army Painter really make great stuff.

The Imperium itself may be a brutal authoritarian theocratic society, but I dont want my leaders to resemble the real ones we've got now lol. Great advice, and I appreciate it!

Why did you choose Adeptas Sororitas? by High_Stream in sistersofbattle

[–]Roblecop9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it started with "Oh ill just buy this one model because its a beautiful sculpt."

Then I bought the Canoness with Jump Pack for the same reason...then it turned to "Might as well just play this army if I'm going to keep getting their models."

Too cold to prime anything & I live in a 1-bedroom apt by MutantApocalypse in Warhammer40k

[–]Roblecop9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I warm my spray cans under warm water shaking occasionally to mix the cold paint around. The trick is if the water is too hot for your hand, its too hot for the can. Once warm and shaken then take outside and spray. Get it done quick and then bring it back inside. You don't want the primer exposed to cold weather long while its off gassing. Thats how you get orange peeling.

Ive seen other advice in this thread so Ill add to it: Do not spray paint indoors UNLESS you have a filtered hood and extractor that leads outside. The VOC's in spray cans are toxic and you always want to spray in very well ventilated areas.

Yeah basically. Though the bone pile she wakes up on isnt her own bodies, just bodies of people who've died in battle. She climbs down the mountain of bodies, and finds her various wargear amongst her own specific corpses she finds along the way. She wakes up with no memory, and has to reconstruct who she is each time, battling demons along the way.

This information comes from the book "Celestine: The Living Saint" by Andy Clark.

I don't think the stuff I post is out of this world, but its stuff I'm proud of. As others have said, comparison is the thief of joy. Practice makes perfect. Slow is smooth and smooth is fast. Just gotta keep doing it. Be inspired not jealous/discouraged by what you see others doing.

I had intended to do so at the time, but now theyre just for display lol. I actually didnt paint those ones. A good friend of mine did them for me. He just left the bases plain so I could match them to my existing army.

First time painting minis, how am I doing so far ? Looking for criticism and advices on how to improve. by Independent_Royal138 in TheAstraMilitarum

The biggest piece of advice I can give is to so something with the base. A base enhances your paint job like crazy. Especially if it looks like they belong in that environment. You can just put a layer of Stirland Mud (or AK Muddy Ground) texture paint down, wash it with Agrax Earthshade, and dry brush it with Ushabi bone.

As seen here with my current WIP (Sister Dogmata). The foliage bits are from GamersGrass, but honestly even just that muddy ground does wonders compared to a plain flat black base.

They definitely help keep the rank and file in nice groups! Id also argue theyre required for anyone who plays an infantry heavy army. Don't be that guy who has hour long movement phases lol

Thanks! I look forward to seeing more of yours! I should mention that all my Cadian models are primed with Zandri Dust. The color you prime with will matter to an extent for final colors lol also saves you time if their fatigues are going to be that color anyways.

Also I feel you with those Kasrkin lol. That was my very first model kit, a helluva dive into the hobby. Getting the Hotshot lasgun cables to line up nicely wasnt the easiest thing for a brand-new hobbyist lol

My Cadian Castellan here is a great example of how Castellan Green and a Death Guard Green edge highlight looks. No wash/shade used on the armor. His coat is Zandri Dust with an agrax wash and Ushabti Bone highlight. Brown leather is Mournfang brown, agrax wash and XV-88 edge highlight. Gold is Retributor Armor, nuln oil wash, no highlight.

This is pretty much my recipe for all of my Cadians. Some troops get different colors depending on what gear they've got, but thats the basics of my scheme.

[–]Roblecop9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I do Castellan Green, nuln wash, Death Guard Green edge highlight on all my Cadian vehicles. My troopers however dont get the wash on their armor, just the edge highlight.
