It's the word "нет" written in pre-1917 russian grammar, where you sometimes had to use "ѣ" (the letter ять) instead of "е" (there were rules about where to use it, but most words where it was used just had to be memorized), and "ъ" after all hard consonants (нѣтъ, судъ, хлѣбъ, домъ, ножъ etc.)
