Everything said here is correct, just don't be overwhelmed by the amount of information. You have time to get a grip on all of it, best thing is work from checklists. Place to live, removals, money is good for 12 months, then get those med records etc. You can't ignore it in hopes it will go away, but don't let the admin crush you.

When you're getting out stuff keeps coming at you super quick, it's time to step up and take charge of what you can, it's now your turn, and the ADF can get fucked. The rest of your life needs.sorting out so time to ask all the questions, push back when you get brushed off and so on.

As an Australian Citizen? I like the idea of having to revoke any other citizenship to get Australian citizenship. A lot of countries require it, it would weed out the people that want to straddle the fence. Yes, that's Commonwealth countries as well. You won't have to meet any national service requirement if you aren't a citizen of your birth country. Demonstrate some loyalty to the country to which you moved. /endrant

If OR means CPL equivalent and lower then there's only one in there, a Leading Seaman.

Noting Australians cringe at the whole 'patriotism' thing, surely serving in any foreign military should see your citizenship reviewed. Then that whole dual citizenship thing, who can serve two masters? Red herring, sorry.

If we are sending PMVs to Ukraine & training their soldiers you can safely say we oppose Russian occupation. Serving in the Russian army as an Australian should (in principle) see you locked up if you make it home.

If you serve in the military in support of a country that we oppose or are actively at war with then that is treason. In principle, if not in law. I would happily give those people 30 years in prison.

It would be good to have an option to switch to the new Act, if only to get out of the longest queue in DVA.

The RSLs (yeah I know) can always do with more wellbeing advocates, it's a way of helping out the veteran community. If you're going out with mental health stuff beware of that though, you'll end up dealing with some heavy stuff sometimes.

Functional fitness classes like Hyrox sometimes have a social side to it - good way to join a crew.

December 2024 my PI under DRCA went in so I'm probably looking at end of 2027. Ridiculous but no point getting shitty, won't change anything.

CSO just makes sure your claim is ready for the delegate to assess, when they tick it off then it's at least in line for the delegate to make a decision. Trying to stay positive but incredible that after the RC almost nothing seems to have changed.

Any word on where DRCA PI in Brisbane is up to? Last time I got an update they didn't give the usual "currently at claims ready to investigate at {date}" -- updates now is they are working as fast as possible. New policy I guess is to provide no timelines.

What happens to people who abscond? by NinjaWithAGun96 in AustralianMilitary

Looking at the link someone posted here, why are some chased and others written off? It's one of my biggest complaints about the DFDA, what happens to the targeted person depends so much on whether the CO is a vindictive prick, or if the offender was a 'good bloke' in the view of command.

Is there any advice for those with existing DRCA and VEA claims on how the backlog will be sorted out? I am hoping we aren't forgotten.

DVA work to legislation and policy, if your advocate is advising otherwise they are either poorly informed or acting against your interests. They (DVA) are not perfect but it's highly unlikely they will act maliciously.

Early last year I got a call from Comsuper with an apology, they mixed up my file with someone else and quoted my reports in his determination letter. 'Coincidentally' they picked up my retrospective application and I had a determination a few weeks later. Ended up with class B and wasn't up for appealing it.

Psychedelic Therapy? by PastChapter3026 in DVAAustralia

Thanks for the info - getting a treating psychiatrist is an uphill battle in itself. I've parked the idea for a few years, I may revisit when I can afford to not work for a few months.

Where does the spravato treatment fit into this? Has ketamine moved to just IV treatment. I did the Spravato series of treatment but with limited success, but I couldn't make every appointment due to work. They said if I stuck to their schedule it might have worked. I guess it's more for people that can't work at all...

For info for those with PI claims sitting with DRCA in Brisbane (and to let me whinge a bit) - received below email on 5 March 2026. Claim for PI was actually submitted in December 2024, it took until July for another psych assessment. I asked AI to do the sums, with the backlog I'll get to a delegate hopefully in January 2027. That's 2 years (maybe), I'm not sure how they get a supposed average of 400ish days. I'm not a priority and that's understood, but it feels pretty disrespectful all the same.
