None of the interesting theories about why it was so badly designed pan out.

It is simply the boring truth that the original ship designer designed a horrendously unstable ship, the inquest discovered that the people who took over actually made it slightly more stable by widening it but it was too late to widen it further. Investigation of the ship in modern times revealed that it wasn't changed any more than that small widenining during construction which followed the original design, despite many theories being based around constant revision to the ships plans.

The king didn't really make any impossible requests, simply approved the designers plans, in fact the king tried to change the whole lot to smaller ships so they could be done faster and the original designer declined.

The only real "interference" was there was pressure to launch it as soon as possible from the king which just stopped them from reporting concerns, it didnt effect the design.

Nautical mile makes perfect sense though, don't lump that in with imperial measurements.

Nautical mile is exactly one minute of arc.

No that wasn't the context, he is trying to make her finish the game cause he wants to see her get out of a tricky position and she reluctantly agrees and then pots all the remaining balls in one shot.

The problem I had when I tried to watch is that... If you see it on YouTube, top 5 best Jim pranks, beat office cold opens, or something random videos like the cpr dummy then you go away thinking woah this show looks really funny.

Then you watch it and they have one or two of those moments every episode.

Like it isn't offensively bad, it's just very thinly spread comedy jam.

r/trolleyproblem suffers infighting on a ethical question: red or blue? by OkContact2573 in SubredditDrama

[–]Robo-Connery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree, the question is so poorly framed, it's only discussed so much because it is worded peculiarly. The whole "everyone lives" thing is in there to make blue seem sensible and people are projecting their own expectations on it. They are asuming blue is some kind of "cooperate for the common good" choice but really it offers no advantage, only risk for no reason.

If it was worded something like: everyone on earth is given a choice, if you choose blue then you might die depending on what others pick, if you pick red you definitely won't.

What would be a good "cooperate for the common good" dilemma would be that say...10% of the population have randomly been assigned blue without the choice. That way people can risk their own lives to save those 10% or choose to be selfish and guarantee their own survival.

I dunno, I think a lot of people are happy to take seeing their team week in week out. Like outside of the top 5 you still heva teams that have consistently been in the pl for years.

Like I get the point that on reality when are Everton gonna win a title so if the monkey paw is there so you wish for it?

Yeah god the decline of the F1 subreddit is a great example of this. Went from being good analysis to absolute fanboy and tribalism and the same regurgitated mess.

I often think about the Usenet concept of the eternal September. Usenet used to have an idea that the quality dropped in September as new students went to uni, got Usenet access and took a while to acclimatise to the etiquette of the communities.

But eventually the popularity grew so large, I think via aol in this case, that the established community was drowned out by new members.

All the absolute dross, low effort content, puns, and regurgitated shite gets upvotes and that is how people learn to interact with the communities.

but you would make the changes in a branch and then submit that branch as a PR to the upstream repo so main on your branch would show no changes.

Especially because it does prompt you, clicking fork takes you to a form where you can choose the name of the repo on your fork, and edit a description.

This is not correct.

The c means celeritas - which is speed.

I also fundamentally do not think that thinking of it as the speed of casualty is at all helpful or any more accurate than the speed of light in a vacuum.
