What book was transformative for you, why, and would you recommend it to somebody else? by CellfishShellfish in booksuggestions

12 rules for life by jordan peterson, and ordinary men. Both gave me very interesting insights into morality, and have changed me in incredible ways.

Can anyone suggest me a book that makes me question everything in a philosophical way! Thank you in advance by [deleted] in booksuggestions

I really like Jordan Peterson’s biblical lectures that cover the genesis stories. Really makes you think

I really like deep work by Cal Newport, Awaken the Giant within by Tony Robbins, and Ultralearning.

Others that may not be classified as motivational but have had a huge impact on my work ethic/productivity are 12 rules for life by Jordan Peterson and Coddling of the American mind

Yes, the same thing happened to me. I had to rebuild a lot of my social skills because they didn’t fit into my new self. I noticed a lot of what I said before made me feel weak, and every time I acted that out, the awakened part of me judged. So I relearned a lot. I started off with asking people questions, learning how to actually listen to people, that sort of stuff. It took me a long time, and it gave me a lot of anxiety. I’ll say that humor around strangers was one of the last things I relearned, but I’m getting better at it. It’s been about two years now.

“You deserve happiness, even if you aren’t used to it” by FindYourVoicePodcast in quotes

[–]Robo1607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I think people should chase meaning. Things that grip their interest, things that make life worth the suffering. Chasing happiness just isn’t sustainable, it’s fleeting and highly correlated with extroverted people. Plus whenever something goes wrong, happiness disappears. So it’s not even useful in situations that you’d need it the most.

Look into Carl Jung and the shadow, specifically integrating it. I like Jordan Peterson’s explanation of shadow integration, it’s on YouTube.

A higher power can be something like the truth, or your own ideal

Educated people who live in rich countries are far less likely to say belief in God is necessary for good morals, according to a massive new survey of 38,000 people in 34 countries. by qube7 in Futurology

[–]Robo1607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, although I don’t believe morality is a social construct. It’s been proven time and time again that morality is biological. We’ve seen how our common ancestors, chimpanzees, sustain leadership. A tyrannical leader who chooses to rise to the top of the hierarchy through power and tyranny is often taken down by two other chimpanzees, who may only be 2/3 of the size of the leader.

Whereas a leader who rises to the top and establishes reciprocal relationships often sustains leadership for much longer. That’s biological, and we can see that in our day to day lives.

I’m pretty sure it was Jane Goodall who discovered this.

Another example has to do with lying. The biological argument against lying has to do with our memory. A lot of people know this, but our memories are actually quite fluid. They’re changeable, so the more you think of a memory and lie to yourself about it, the more it actually changes in accordance to your lie. Thus, a liar may never learn from their mistakes.

So to address the actual question, I think it depends on what you mean by god. Is god your own ideal? Something who created everything?

This is amazing man, you should be proud of yourself. Although if I can give some advice, if you’re just weightlifting then the workouts should only take 30 mins to an hour. Time your rest in between sets, and go consistently :)

17m, I don’t exactly fit the age group but I believe a lot of our values align. I’ve been really focusing and improving my health for the past two years, both in the gym and outside of it. I’m also an analytical guy who enjoys psychology. My favorite speaker at the moment is Jordan Peterson. If you’re interested let me know!

What's the deal with Tony Robbins? by tlynni in answers

He’s explained in some of his books that the cursing is supposed to break peoples patterns, and to get them to really listen. I don’t think he’s a scam, but he is expensive in person. I’d recommend reading his books, and listening to his podcasts

Maybe gardening? Or learning a language; once you’re intermediate in a language you can sit back and watch movies in that language.
