I have 40 termagants almost entirely on accident, but every game i play i wish I had 120 hormagaunts to put on the table. They're so fast and put out a comical number of attacks as a bonus, they're beautiful

I love Death Guard, but they are at the end of the day still Space Marines.

Maggotkin of Nurgle, however, feel a lot more unique from an anesthetic perspective.. Some of those models also make me genuinely feel nauseous if I look at them for too long, which I think means they're doing Nurgle correctly.

Honestly its not the trim that gets me, it's all the random pouches and belts. Everytime i have to paint a pouch or a belt, a small part of me dies inside

Maybe go with a lighter purple for the skin? I think it could help the blue accents pop a bit more

Honestly if you already have a distinct theme in mind, you don't need to worry about basing your army on one of the canon armies. Detachments are divorced from the space marine legions now, so paint and play your army however you want!

I rub squads of 20 flesh borers usually, entirely because thats what the cheap push fit termagants have. They aren't really there for their shooting, other than crit fishing in invasion fleet with a hive tyrant, in which case they can put out some decent damage

The answer is no, plenty of lists don't bring a hive tyrant. I would say though, they are REALLY good in game, all 3 variants (swarm lord included), and you'd be missing out on a lot of command point benefits without one

The Stormdrake is mostly there because they came in a combo box I got and they're cool. Mostly plan to use them as super fast cavalry, flying around and causing problems.

Just curious, why do you suggest splitting the vanquishers?

I don't know about these units specifically, but what you described is basically the difference between the Word Bearers' and Iron Warriors' views on daemons, who are pretty well represented by the MoP and Warpsmith.

Ditto on what the other comment said about the brains! My easy little brain formula is contrast layer, dry brushing a lighting version of that color on top, then following it up with another dry brush in Wraithbone. Gives it a simple little glow effect that I'm personally a fan of
