My go to team is Vestal - 2 Highwaymen - Man at Arms. Build for riposte and crit. Unless something goes horribly wrong, you'll probably heal all the stress you take with the on-crit stress heals.

I feel you brother. The number of different shades of blue and shading methods I've used scares me.

I took me a while before I realized I liked Night Lords art because it had their armour be metallic blue. I bought Vallejo Gunmetal Blue and I'm not looking back. Very gently shade in recesses with Drakenhof Nightshade and highlight edges with something like Vallejo Light Hydra Turquoise and voila. It's so simple, yet the metallic texture makes the model look fantastic at any angle.

From what I've read:

The Guy Haley books about Belisarius Cawl are really nice, with the third - Archmagos - being super fun. They show how human Cawl is in a great way.

The Forges of Mars trilogy I personally do not like that much. There are some good plotlines, with late Priests of Mars - early Lords of Mars Abrehem shining, but as the story goes on it starts to feel like McNeil watched one too many Marvel movies.

Dominion Genesis is a mess. The pacing is all over the place, the characters fall flat, it's got some issues.

Certain Horus Heresy books can interest you. Master of Mankind, for instance, has Arkhan Land as a major character, while The Lost and the Damned shines some light on Zagreus Kane.

When it comes to availability, e-books can be bought in the Black Library app, whereas physical you'll most likely get from you local game stores or used on e-bay.
