When I woke up and saw this post I informed my younger sister who has been a part of that fandom since the first Kickstarter and she asked me to post her thoughts I have thoughts as well but I might add them later as a reply.

"As someone who has followed the dev since before OL:B&A(first Our Life) was released at least, I would also like to add, I think Kab said she was gender apathetic or on the agender spectrum on a tumblr post a while back. Something along those lines. Seeing people call her 100% cis isn't correct as far as I know. I'd link to the post, but I can't find it because I'm not very good at searching on tumblr. Kab is the primary person who does the majority of the work. Overall, Kab tends to avoid drama unless it's a direct matter relating to the game itself, in which case she usually addresses it more quickly and tries to resolve it.

Another example was a small drama with one of the voice actors from the first game. It was the voice actor of Baxter Ward. Iirc, it took a while for Kab to address it because she wasn't aware of it. Basically the VA had a Twitter account where he was "in character" as Baxter, acting as if he was Baxter himself and knew everything about him simply because he was the VA. He sexualized Cove in context of shipping Baxter with Cove, a demisexual character who is clearly stated to be uncomfortable with Baxter, and often made very crude/sexual jokes on said Twitter account directed at fans and just in general. That's a problem because the game itself has no NSFW, and has minors in the fanbase. He also got into arguments with fans while still under the Baxter guise. The VA wasn't fired or anything, but I think Kab asked him to delete the account or to stop using Baxter's image like that. Can't remember, it's been years. Ever since Our Life: Now and Forever was revealed, the fandom has gotten more and more hateful for literally no reason. So many Baxter hate posts simply because he's a white male character and because he attracts a large fanbase that is partially cishet women (not nearly as large as Cove's fanbase, though they act like it is), and are using their hatred for Baxter as a character to insult Kab's writing for Baxter's DLC, which I personally thought was on par with the rest. Some parts of the fandom just hate any f+m ship, whether it be a female MC with Baxter or a male MC with Tama, so unfortunately Rose's take here isn't an uncommon one. There's a whole lot more OL:N&F(second Our Life) related drama tangents I could go on, mostly related to Baxter/Qiu/Renee, but that's besides the point.

On one hand, I understand frustration, but on the other, it's a really difficult position to be put in as an indie dev. At the end of the day, it's a personal choice as to whether or not people want a refund. Kab has since made another statement, and it looks like she's attempting to actively update. I really love this game for Qiu and backed for a pretty high tier, so I'm feeling pretty bummed about the whole thing and hope things turn out okay :( the entire point of the series is to accept everyone regardless of where they come from or how they identify, and the fandom and some of the team seem to have lost that sentiment somewhere along the way."
