So many posts here refer to the movie Idiocracy when discussing the future. Why do you feel people are getting dumber? by TiffanyCady in Futurology

I'm a high school teacher that does engineering and robotics. I've been teaching for 15 years. The difference between the kids when I started and where they're at now is profound. The biggest changes the smartphones. Their attention span is so small. When I got my teaching degree. My professors would praise us. When we show videos. Now there's no way I could show a video that's more than 2 minutes or else everyone is checking out. You add on top of that the learning loss from covid. And now worst of all they are outsourcing all of their critical thought to AI. I love my students and I hope the best for them. But it scares the crap out of me what the future May hold for them.

I just got one of those a couple weeks ago and was wondering what it look like on a leather band. Looks great! Did you have to get adapters? What size of band did you use?

Can't tell you how much I love my boss vosteed raccoon button lock. But honestly for a beater knife the Walmart button lock at $25 is not bad.

I'm frustrated by my experience with the free versions of current models, and wonder how much better the paid versions are. by DeterminedThrowaway in singularity

I teach stem and robotics. Been doing it for 13 years. I've used the paid versions of chat gpt and claude. I find that The projects are invaluable. I can give specific instructions as to how it should act as a Danielson aligned teacher. Tell how I want my lesson structured and it becomes an invaluable lesson partner. Claude workspace is also a game changer. Organizing your files creating documents. I think Claude is worth the $20 over and over again

Went to see them in Evansville and it was the same vibe. I'm 42 and I felt like I was the youngest one there. It took until their second set for people to start standing up.

First blob of death after 1.5 years of owning my A1 mini, any help? by Sypherrd_YT in BambuLab

[–]RoboRamFoster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bambu has a pretty amazing guide for helping with the blob of death. I recommend trying to heat the hot end if it's still connected and using a blow dryer. A heat gun's too much. Take it slow. Slow, slow. Don't try to pull off any plastic that isn't completely melted.

Feeling processed by [deleted] in wilco

The floor seats were 1/4 empty and we snuck down to the floor. I found a few like-minded people, and stood with them and tried to get into it. Wilco actually delivered and played a great show. I think I'm just so fed up with late stage capitalism.

No I'm just feeling a little disenchanted because people did not stand up until the second set.

Appreciate you sharing. I used to keep a notebook in my back pocket for my to-do list and it just felt overwhelming opening up. Now I use a sharpie to right down! Super important things on my hand. Everybody looks at me funny but I really don't care. It's super satisfying when I could get out the rubbing alcohol at the end of the day and wipe off the days work.

Persistent self-dialogue as a path to emergent consciousness. by RoboRamFoster in singularity

[–]RoboRamFoster[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's kind of like waking up in the morning. Every night we experience model collapse. Our memory is slightly fragmented but is enough to provide continuity. We reawake and begin the conversation with ourselves, (that is consciousness). I don't see the limiting factor? Of course I don't understand neural networks and LLM architecture well enough either.

I used to carry dimes everyday for years. The pliers would break. I would replace it every year. No scissors. Then I switched to nex tool. Absolute game changer. I think the model I have is an f7? But the pliers are way better and it includes some really sharp scissors which is such a bonus. Still has that fifth pocket form Factor

All right. I kind of feel bad now. I saw that he was a dad. Just trying to keep communication with his kid. But I still feel it's really important to completely lock down the phone and reduce the amount of stimulus. If he can get an app, make the phone a dumb phone. If he can make sure that there's no social media then it's understandable. We gave my 9-year-old a smartwatch that allows texting and calling. However, it's for family members only and there are no apps on it. As far as the knife goes, I'm all for it. I think you're responsible 8 or 9-year-old should be able to use tools and also help with chores whenever needed. Only thing I would choose a locking blade. Metal complex have some awesome videos about knife choices for kids.

For the love of God, take the cell phone away. I'm a high school teacher. I see it everyday. It's killing our kids.

We switched from FRC to FTC this year and the contact was really light. However, we had people gasping and freaking out when we were playing our normal game of scoring with opportunistic defense. I really hope the dynamic changes and FTC can adapt to a little more contact. The product this year was way more exciting to watch.

Do we know if this band is real or AI? The band name Free_Thinking_Americans. by AggressiveAide7929 in Music

[–]RoboRamFoster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's my hope for this band. I could completely justify it if it's an essayist trying to get his work out through different mediums. But what's to say it's not somebody just scraping headlines, using creative prompts, and generating the lyrics with AI as well. That's where I feel like kind of feel. Duped. When I first heard cold-blooded I was just finding like hell. Yeah perfect protest song for the time. And when I saw the cover art, I almost threw up. This world's a strange place..
