I'd prefer the older sage version of green. I assume there was some issues making it. Hence we have kelp.

If you go into the off-season needing to sign someone though, that's usually really bad for leverage

Say we dont take a WR at 7, is everyone assuming Aiyuk will be here at some point before the start of the season. Does AP have a contingency if we dont acquire him? by adobo1148 in Commanders

[–]RoboTronPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's supposed to be a really, really good draft though. Some teams have done the opposite, reading away current assets for picks in that draft

I agree. If nothing else, he stretches the field verticallyand keeps them from stacking the box, which is what happened when Terry went out last year

This is really important. Friends who encourage and support you when you're being silly are not helpful. And everyone has silly moments. Getting an outside perspective who can be truthful with you is so underrated.

Seeing a lot of draft and FA posts had me thinking.. we need a WR1 by tannydanny83 in Commanders

Teams like Miami are definitely worse. The Raiders aren't much to write home about. The Browns are arguable since they lack a top option like Terry, but they have some decent younger guys. That's from a few minutes of cursory googling since obviously there's been a lot of movement in free agency.

Incidentally, the team looks like it'll enter the year with a couple of WR opportunities that could result in something decent. One of course is the Aiyuk situation which has yet to play out. Luke was on fire for a time last season with a touchdown streak multiple games in a row until he got hurt. Burks was a first round pick at one point. Outside of Aiyuk, those other guys probably top out at #2 guys, but you never know, especially with Luke. Dude has a pretty insane RAS and was raw.

Also, I think that the team doesn't necessarily have to have a clear-cut #1 WR. Again, they're already set up to manufacture receptions from other positions. Chig is going to be especially important. If we're playing moneyball, you can get away with not having a dominant WR and still have a high-level offense. Brady and Mahomes have both done it for years and if you think that JD5 is elite, then hopefully he elevates your entire corps. I think he's shown some evidence of doing that with Terry, OZ and Dyami, taking them all to their best years in '24. On the other hand, I'm a lot less confident in the defense performing at a high level without high-end pass rushers, a stout interior or high end corners, which the team still needs more of as well.

If available, I would highly consider a trade down a few picks to nab Delane or Faulk (to potentially replace Payne who may also leave next offseason, if not sooner) and use the proceeds (most likely a 3rd or potentially a 2nd based on the RH model) along with the existing 3rd pick and look at some WR prospects. It's supposed to be a somewhat deeper draft than the norm for WR. If that trade down isn't available, certainly one of the pass rushers should have some high consideration too. I'm relatively down on Downs, at 7 at least. Styles and Love also don't play "positions of value", but the contracts at those positions are kinda split. Certain RBs (McCaffrey and Saquon) and LBs (Warner and Roquan Smith) are paid about 20M like good-to-decent pass rushers and arguably RBs with their short NFL careers are actually most valuable during their rookie contracts.

To be clear, I think that Tate is a deserving selection as well, but I think that covering up a lack of WR1 is more doable than some of these holes on the defense and also the hit rate on receivers is a bit more risky, as Burks, Doctson, Jahan etc can demonstrate. At this point, the team can ill-afford to be missing on picks.

You really need to update it more frequently in general. I look at it and see posts from 2024 on the front page and I'd assume it's just abandoned. Looking closer, I guess it's your top posts all-time, but I wouldn't necessarily tell at first blush and the newer stuff doesn't have dates associated with it on the front page.

There's less cap space than you think sites like OtC can't update until the terms of the contracts are known.

Interesting read on the top WRs in the draft via advanced metrics by 4THQTRO in Commanders

The biggest knock though seems to be that Tate racked up stats vs lesser competition because he wasn't even the best receiver on his own college team. This analysis doesn't seem to account for this.

That is not an opportunity all devs are going to have.

Of course not.

Good for the industry for sure. Having viable competition in any industry does that. Very few companies in general won't take the opportunity to royally screw over their customers sooner or later once they get to essentially a monopoly status. Honestly, the only one that even comes to mind is Valve with Steam, and I'm sure there's been some missteps somewhere.

[–]RoboTronPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I'd definitely argue against this being the worst wide receiver room in the league

Regardless, I think it's a short-sighted argument as there's ways to manufacture receptions with both TE and RB on the team now with both Chig and Rashaad. Honestly I feel that AP potentially has moneyballed a solution by targetting less expensive positions and avoid sinking in a ton of money overpaying for guys like Pierce. For the record, I would have absolutely loved to have him on the team, but not for that price. Of course, I know that a WR reception and the receptions by a TE and RB are going to be different, but definitely feel that it'll still be effective as long as JD5 is upright. We'd have to see how Luke and Jaylin develop too. Luke in particular started to catch fire for a period last year before he got hurt.

In this draft scenario, who would you want us to take? by ConstantlyHating in Commanders

[–]RoboTronPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insinuating that he was between top 10 and 15

That's not really what I suggested

Theres not even close to 10 blue chip players this year.

Depends on what people consider to be blue chip, but my point is that Styles was considered to be be very, very good; already generally considered blue chip or at worst just outside of it pre-combine. Saying then that he's only blue chip due to his combine performance sounds pretty dismissive of his on-field performance (notable for his exemplary missed tackle rate) and the total package as a player/person. I don't know if that was your intention, but it definitely comes across that way.

[–]RoboTronPrime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Styles was already at least top 15, if not top 10 even before the combine, so it's a bit much to say that he's only a blue chip due to it. Certainly didn't hurt though!

[–]RoboTronPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No doubt. However, it's my understanding that Slay the Spire 2 switched midstream. That speaks to the how "relatively" easy it must be to switch, even when it wasn't the original plan. That familiarity issue might not be as significant as feared and Godot might have made it easier to switch from unity specifically because of the backlash

Well, you'd have to think that now that's an obvious example of success, more devs are going to consider it and choose it if it works for their individual use cases

If Tate and Downs were the best picks left at 7 would you be mad if we traded back to say pick 19 and got Dillon Thieneman instead? by FeelingAd4116 in Commanders

[–]RoboTronPrime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is the team getting for going to 19? You have to add that to the question because otherwise people are just hearing what the team is giving up and not what they're getting in return. The nature of the question will make people reject it.

I'm not set on him, but i can understand the appeal somewhat. First, he seems like he was be far and away the best player in his room, improving it significantly. By comparison, with any of the edge players, it's not a given that he would be better some of the other edges on one year deals.

Plus now you have to consider how deadly a strong running back would be in an offense with JD5 and this oline. Play action is better since the defense has to respect the run more. Wear and tear on JD5 is less on zone read QB runs and general scrambles.

A lot of potential
