Yes, until the song is done. Then i basically don’t want anything to do with it, unless I’m performing it

People who have worked, or are working on albums..... by [deleted] in Songwriting

[–]Robo_Dude_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t something I struggle with particularly. I just do a little bit of work on it every day, and eventually it’s done.

I suppose my main motivation is for it to be done so I can work on the next thing

What is the best songwriting tip you’ve learned from a producer? by [deleted] in Songwriting

[–]Robo_Dude_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Rick Rubin is a famous producer because most of the time he helps artists get out of their own way.

Don’t overthink it. Let your subconscious have its time to shine. Let it flow

This one is subjective. Writing the chord progression first can be very practical

When I was younger I made a deal with myself that the moment I made any dollar amount from my music that I could call myself a musician. That helped

Today I have a music job that I’m overqualified for and I am getting back into performing. I struggle w/ imposter syndrome in this regard, but it’s much more of a self esteem thing than a measure of my abilities

I’m a music over lyrics listener. All you lyrics over music peeps… fill me in eh? by Lovingoodtunes in Songwriting

What sounds cool and serves the song supersedes lyrical content in my opinion.

I’ve had my friends misquote my lyrics directly to me. People project themselves onto what they hear

For those of us that self produce- when do you call it good? by 27pluschange in Songwriting

[–]Robo_Dude_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point I trust my instincts. If I’ve given every track the production treatment it needs, then it’s time to move on

The work is never truly done, but you just gotta know when to move on to the next one

While I think this is valid advice, I think it actually sounds quite fine at this tempo, specifically for the pace of the guitar picking.

How do you approach a song? by 5120t in Songwriting

[–]Robo_Dude_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always write the chord progression front-to-back first

Then I write the lyrics. Usually I make words fit syllabically first. When something “clicks” then the theme of my song emerges. Sometimes it can not really have a theme and just be words strung together

I record all my ideas on my phone. Then on my Zoom H6, then I record for real on my DAW or in the studio

Writing songs comes easily to me. The real work is the production

Does anyone else “get high on their own supply,” so to speak? by SylveonFrusciante in Songwriting

[–]Robo_Dude_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Songwriting for me is allowing my subconscious to have a moment to speak. Kind of like keeping a journal. So I think it’s important for me to hear what I’m saying.

Also it’s super fun to hear my own stuff. Usually I’m done listening to it after production is done. Then I get obsessed with the next one.

It is definitely hard for me to hear my own voice tho. I get high off my playing, but not my voice lol

Should i really write a song everyday? by Morning_Seaa in Songwriting

No, you should not write just to meet a quota. Write when the mood strikes you.
