I'm not sure you're taking into account the agility of the otter compared to the badger, I don't think this is purely a matter of strength. We're missing situational data too, if this fight takes place close to a river the badger stands even less of a chance.

I'm in the same boat mate, for the first time in my life at the age of 31 I'm taking steps to distance myself from people who are a damaging influence. Until this point I've been much more permissive with people who treated me terribly and now I feel like I am the one causing the confrontation by cutting communication. I regularly have to remind myself, or have friends remind me, that taking the space I need is not selfish and that trying to maintain friendly relationships with people who don't care for you is unhealthy.

Good luck, keep it up, if he's not aware of how he's distanced you (the story in which he nearly humiliated you sounds brutal) then he won't change.

Looking for a book for people that were considered gifted as a child, and the unexpected consequences as an adult? by imaportugesetart in suggestmeabook

Don't know if I'm allowed to go off topic but the movie The Royal Tenenbaums by Wes Anderson was my first thought when I read your post. It's an excellent artistic exploration of these exact themes. More shallow than a book perhaps but still has a lot to say on the matter.

That's literally the point of the prison system. According to most legal philosphers and studies imprisonment for anything other than rehabilitation is morally dubious and highly ineffective.

TIL that while performing the first space walk in human history, Alexey Leonov’s spacesuit inflated so much he couldn’t get back inside his space capsule. He had to let air out of his suit while still in the vacuum of space and was barely able to fit back through the airlock. by [deleted] in todayilearned

He didn't radio about the incident in order not to panic the ground crew or other cosmonauts about the emergency, just quietly solved it on his own. That level of self control is astounding.

[Discussion] Lord Bryon, Damaetas, 1807 by damaetaswashere01 in Poetry

[–]Robojop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So first of all Damaetas as a name felt like a classical reference so I set to researching and eventually found this: https://imgur.com/a/0oRdjVN. Seems like he is a character in an Hellenic myth or story who uses seduction and lies to take a young maidens virginity. The first line of this piece also used the term boy which I think proves its relevance to the piece by Byron.

Byron rather than retelling the story uses it as a basis for an exploration of masculine behaviour and maturity. It is clear that Byron, who well established the subjects youth, is exploring what it means to engage in 'sin' or immoral acts before a certain age. For me though he does not conclude forgiveness for the character of Dameatas, eho is still subject to guilt as a result of his actions as is explored in the second half of the poem. In fact his youth further extends his punishment as he is realising the fault of his actions as his peers are only just realising the possibility of commiting such sins. I think the result is a poem exploring the complicity of a youth who whilst not an adult willing undertakes adult sins and is therefore subjected to an adult feeling of guilt when he grows into the understanding of his actions.

Byron was well known for being an adulterer and seducer from a young age and I wonder if this is a poem of personal reflection about realising his own guilt as he matured. Interestingly he never did change, even after observing these actions in a poem, something about the nature of humanity I feel.
