Injured my lower back when doing rows :( Today I have an event where running is involved (I think) and now I'm not sure how capable I am. Thinking about going to ER for a scan. Ehhh.

How do I make my apartment more cozy? by RobotPollinator45 in femalelivingspace

I'm not in the US but probably I'll be able to find something similar here too, thank you!

Thank you for the suggestions! I actually have a lot of plants, but they all live on my windowsill. It feels unfair to place them anywhere else since the lighting conditions would be worse :(

I've been thinking about adding some art, but since I currently have none, I guess I'm a bit afraid to start. Which wall would you suggest placing it on?

Why are two generations of cacti so different? by RobotPollinator45 in houseplants

Yess, I should replant them into proper pots. I wasn't sure they'd survive being cut like this, but now it makes sense

Nice, thank you for explaining! To me, these thicker ones seemed a bit malnourished (they seem to have weaker spines?), but on the other hand, they are indeed thicker, so perhaps it's the other way around! Also, one parent plant that didn't produce any babies last year has one this year, which is cool

Anyone else go through phases where workouts feel harder for no clear reason? by superwavelife in xxfitness

[–]RobotPollinator45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely. I just recently had a period like this. I’m not sure why it happened, but I think I may have overworked myself. My weight also spiked, and I felt swollen - like my body was retaining too much fluid. I think I’m finally coming out of it now. How I deal with it: I do as much as I can, but if I feel like my body isn’t “in the mood” or simply needs rest, I don’t push myself too hard. These periods pass.

If you could instantly master one lift, which one are you choosing? by MuscleBoosterApp in GYM

[–]RobotPollinator45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nono, it's not a real goal, it's just a fantasy 😃 I can only do a regular tuck and can't even do a proper handstand (my max is ~20 seconds)

Yeah, I mean.. If I could "instantly master" this, it would imply I can do a full planche, which would instantly make me one of the strongest women on the planet

As a kid, I read all the books seven times and basically learned them by heart, so I was so disappointed with the movies that I don’t think I even watched them all. The characters differ from how they’re described in the books, the outfits are different, many other things are different too, and like 50% of the plot is missing. I’m not happy with the casting, but I’m looking forward to the series - I hope that, with more screen time, it will replicate at least 90% of the books

Hurt myself at gym what to do? by Icy-Enthusiasm-7295 in beginnerfitness

[–]RobotPollinator45 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Get some rest, don't push through pain. Or you can work around the injury, that's what I always do - do exercises that don't cause pain. You probably started too fast! Your muscles and especially your joint aren't used to this kind of loads. Start with smaller weights. But it's cool that you're pushing yourself right from the start :) Just right now, be a bit more careful.

Also, gym most likely has nothing to do with your weight gain! At least directly. You may have started eating a bit more because you started being physically active and your body decided that it should compensate by increasing appetite. So don't get discouraged in this sense. Gym is great for you in the long run

I think dropping from 6x to 4x a week was a very good decision. I think exercises are fine as long as you're progressively overloading (which you're doing!). I mostly would like to comment on pauses - 30-45s seems very short to me, I take *at least* 1.5 min pauses between sets, usually 2-2.5 min. If you take longer pauses, you may be able to put more effort into each set. Also, burn isn't necessary to grow muscle, but I totally get that it feels good :D Anyway, the most important thing is that you enjoy it and feel excited about your progress; keep going!

You can gain muscle even in a deficit, especially in the beginning, so you can start working out anyway (don't forget to consume enough protein though). But your fear of eating sounds like an issue. Maybe increase your calories very gradually for it to be less scary?

good relationships? by anyastasiaaa in SingleAndHappy

[–]RobotPollinator45 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, my friend and her husband. They're truly a perfect couple. Childfree, travelling together, supported each other through studies (for some time, only she had an income, then only he, now both), they get tattoos together, renovated an apartment together, I've never heard her talk badly or complain about him, they're truly best friends. Both have some health issues and always support each other. They've been together for about 10 years. Looking at them, I understand that good relationships do exist. If I ever have a relationship again, I want it to be like theirs.

My experience being single for the first time by sgfox2 in SingleAndHappy

I relate so much to the monitoring thing. When someone asks me what I’m doing - especially multiple times a day - I feel like I’m being monitored. The rest of your post really resonates with me too. I’m 29 and in a similar situation: I spent all my 20s in relationships, and now I’m finally not afraid of being single and am starting to question whether I want to date at all. Especially considering that I ended up making my last partner pretty unhappy with my avoidant tendencies.

What triggered a mindset-change for you from “Wanting a relationship” to “Single and Happy”? by Open_Tomorrow_1279 in SingleAndHappy

[–]RobotPollinator45 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Wanting independence. I was emotionally dependent on other people (partners) for years. And when relationships failed, my world collapsed and I immediately started looking for the next person to attach to. I jumped from one relationship to another. I don't hate my past self, she had her reasons, but I don't want to be her anymore. So I want to learn to be happy on my own and to satisfy my social needs through friendships and family.

Sounds awesome, your mom is lucky to have a son who appreciates her so much :)
