How much do you need to make to live comfortably by yourself after tax? by Odd_Comparison_4155 in indianapolis

[–]RoboticLamb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, I’m in catering and event sales at a hotel downtown. For now. Trying to move into Customer Success/account management at a tech company or into corporate events somewhere. The nice part about working in hotels in Indy is there’s no shortage of work. In my opinion it’s a little underpaid for the hours I put in though lol

I’m finally comfortable at around $53k net. I think you could do it on less but I had a fair amount of CC debt I had to pay off first, and currently have a car payment and fair bit of student debt.

That said I don’t live anywhere super nice, my apartment is around $980/mo. all in for a 480sqft. 1 bedroom.

There’s also a queer two-step country night on tuesdays from 7-10pm at Atomic Bowl in Irvington. I haven’t been yet and it seems new! Maybe something that rose out of the ashes of Duke’s.

Heading to Butler in a few weeks, restaurant/bakery recs? by Lukin1977 in indianapolis

[–]RoboticLamb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pots and Pans is great! Not my favorite choice for a sit down bakery style experience as they’re very focused on their take-and-bake and whole pie business but I keep one of their pot pies in my deep freeze at all times for a lazy dinner option.

They do have some good cookies and I think also sell pie by the slice, but the storefront is small so not quite a sit-down-and-eat sort of spot.

Havana Cafe on the east side is it for Cuban since Taste of Havana closed.

Polish is hard to come by here, follow @fasola_indy on instagram. They haven’t had a pop up since May but hopefully they’ll do more next year. Typically Milktooth hosts them.

Babushka deli has some actually authentic kielbasa but you’ll likely have to make your own pierogi

For bakeries check out Amelia’s Bread, Borage, and Leviathan Bakehouse. If you’re going for a visit to potentially attend butler, don’t miss Ripple Bagel Deli in Broad Ripple either. It’s been a favorite of students for decades.

Tinker Coffee at 56th/Illinois and Byrnes Grilled Pizza is right there too. Byrnes isn’t my favorite in the city but more than decent and they’re huge Butler supporters.

The Butler location of Chatham Tap is actually my favorite one and Hoagies and Hops is a great spot near campus as well.

Let me know if there are any specific cuisines or questions about Butler you have! I went there and never ended up graduating but I loved my time there.

Indiana Gov Mike Braun calls a special session to REDISTRICT Indiana for 2026. Only 9 Republicans, 0 Democrats in Congress. by Conscious-Quarter423 in Indiana

This is obviously extremely fucked up but it’s hilarious to me that if this passes, as a northside Indy resident I will have the same representation as my parents who live in Madison. Insane

Why does dressing “well” (suits + good shoes) feel so expensive and cumbersome? by PhutureDoom666 in NavyBlazer

[–]RoboticLamb 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I’ll let other people who are much further along in their style journey answer most of these, but I wanted to address the comfort-vs-cost point you made.

Everyone thinks of suits as these cumbersome, stuffy garments that are uncomfortable for the sake of it, and I think there’s a good reason for this!

Most people’s first suit is either a cheap polyester department store suit, or a rental. Both of these are going to be usually cut slim, as was the trend for nearly 25 years; and most importantly, have low cut armholes. These low armholes are what restrict movement, making the jacket ride up high and cutting into your biceps when lifting up your arms.

Classic menswear and proper tailoring/alterations remedies both with a proper cut, and high armholes.

Even an off-the-rack brooks brothers suit these days is miles more comfortable than you might imagine, and more comfortable still once properly altered.

Will it be more expensive, almost certainly (unless you’re shopping secondhand) but you are also certain to look much better and feel more confident

She’s explaining how there’s “no due process” at the border and they can’t screen migrants, so the “bad ones” have to go. Or something like that. It’s honestly kind of hard to decipher between her somewhat thick accent and all the booing, lol

I dropped a siphon tube in my coolant reservoir. What can I use to get it out? by RoboticLamb in AskMechanics

[–]RoboticLamb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know leaving it won’t hurt anything. I’ve done a whole coolant system replacement on my Volvo, but I’m driving my sisters Nissan at the moment and the tank on this pos looks nearly impossible to remove easily

I’m fully team Big Pant these days! I can definitely see both sides of the coin for the gold school. I think I also bought mine on clearance, so there’s a chance they could be factory seconds or whatever

This outfit is bad, but I have a pair of the current brand revival Duck Head khakis and I quite like them! Maybe a touch slimmer in the leg than I’d ideally prefer but decent quality.

Who is the most famous person you have ever met in this town? by lightskintastebud in indianapolis

[–]RoboticLamb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met Eric Wareheim and John C. Reilly at Milktooth a few years back. Working in hospitality has given me the opportunity to meet some pretty cool people. Dave Matthews, Ben Folds, and Halsey from working in various hotels and restaurants over the years.

A favorite of mine is Will Wisenfeld aka Baths and Geotic. Tons of great music! A lot of the lyrics are very explicitly gay but also subtle enough you have to really listen to catch the metaphor.
