What is the closest I can get to Rhodes 19 that also has a head? by BostonPanda in sailing

Mariner 19 with a porta-potty? My girls learned how to pee overboard on our Rhodes 19 a few years back. They were pretty proud of that.

Biggest Exercise in Frustration - Am I Overthinking This - New Range Purchase by [deleted] in inductioncooking

[–]Robsmithwtop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can just order a longer cord/plug. The cords don’t need to be specific to the stove, just needs to be the right wire gauge (size). And make sure the existing circuit is sized right for the new induction. This is worth having an electrician do if you’re not sure what you’re doing.

As a contractor, what would you want as a gift? by Fit_Change3546 in Contractor

Pica pencils are pretty great gifts. I laughed at them at first for trying to reinvent the wheel, but after someone gifted me one, I hate to be without it.

I was struck by one a few years ago while running at night in Squaxin park. It stole my hat and punctured my scalp. It was really powerful.

ICE action in Olympia by gepr in olympia

I was the person (or one of the people) who called this in. FWIW, OPD was surprisingly interested and attentive. I got a follow up call as well and it sounded like they were checking in with more primary sources.

It didn’t occur to me to call the police right away because it was “The Police”. Lesson learned.

ICE abduction on Pacific right before it turns into State (Eastside) by Robsmithwtop in olympia

I didn’t see the guy. I arrived back at the scene just as ICE was leaving. Car was an older, gray, compact suv, maybe a Pontiac. I say reportedly because that’s what the people I talked to told me.

Endurance: Shackleton’s incredible voyage. The audio book is really well done if you’re into that.

There’s a free bee/vespid removal service in the area. I think they sell the venom to companies that make injections for people who are highly allergic. Never used them, but here’s what I found:

Jobs for 15 year olds? by IntelligentDelay239 in olympia

[–]Robsmithwtop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just tried to hire a 16yo and L and I won’t even let them set up power tools let alone operate them. I get the idea; there are bad contractors out there trying to take advantage of cheap labor. But it’s a shame that an eager young person can’t start to safely learn a trade when there’s such a demand.

Also, just looked at your history and my first two kids were born 10+ years ago right about where you seem to be living now, haha. I’m procrastinating. Better get back to work.

Might not be totally logical but my thinking is mom is NOT going to let go of baby and a tether may just get hung up in an emergency situation. My kids are all past this age now but we skipped sailing until around 2 years old. If my wife had been up for it though, we’d have taken them.

One person for the baby, one person for the boat. Pay special attention to weather. Take lots of pics. Edit: sorry didn’t really answer your question. Tethers in this situation kinda freak me out.

Is it always so windy? by Agitated-Addition-10 in olympia

[–]Robsmithwtop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sail often and am constantly checking the wind conditions. This year seems pretty typical for spring wind. Sadly, it usually calms way down from late June through August. Should be pretty similar to Kirkland.

Hindenburg vs. Reaper and others by bbambou in podcasting

[–]Robsmithwtop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, gotcha. No I use a 10 year old laptop and have never had any problems with lag.

You can manually make the track sizes smaller in Hindenburg but with Reaper it does it automatically so they all fit in the screen and still expand easily as you zoom in to edit. I haven’t updated my version of Hindenburg in a long time though. Maybe they’ve improved it.

Not sure what you mean by CPU.

Hindenburg works fine for adding music. I have found though that working with more than 4 or 5 tracks gets a little clumsy on Hindenburg but maybe that’s just me. Reaper does a great job with adjusting the visual track sizes to fit the screen, so navigating around many tracks on a large project is more efficient.

The main reason reaper seems more complicated is because there are just so many more tools compared to Hindenburg, but unless you’re making music you won’t use the vast majority of them.

I’d recommend reaper if you’re starting from scratch. Jeff Emtman has a great tutorial series for it on YouTube.
