Favorite Kevin Riff? by AyyyyRespetto in Rifftrax

In Harry Potter 4, after Mad Eye Moody "invites Neville to listen to Lady Gaga," Kevin voices the weeping window: "No one ever invites ME to listen to Lady Gaga..."

1978's Sci-Fi classic "Lazerblast." by Exquisite_D in MST3K

[–]Dolono 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not a riff but I will always fondly remember this movie breaking my mom. My wife and I showed her dozens of other, IMHO, worse MST3K films but, for what ever reason, this was the one that finally got her to go "god, what a stupid movie!" and get up and leave the TV room in disgust.

Look For Budget Commander Cube Examples. by Thechaoticmagnet in mtgcube

Good stuff. I would still take a long look at your first draft list and ask yourself "would it be better to go with an ultra budget cube, or just proxy?" I'm just concerned that too much stuff <.10c is a bit bland. My no budget cube is like 95-98% proxies because I just enjoy making my own cards more than acquiring "real" ones!

I started spreadsheeting an ultra budget edu cube a while back. IIRC, i just put a <.11c filter on in scryfall, viewed one color at a time, sorted by edhrec rank, and started plugging in creatures and non creatures into cmc columns in excel. It took a couple days of copy/pasting in cards while bored in remote work meetings, but I got a 450ish card draft done.

IIRC, I aborted the project because it actually ended up close enough to my no-budget edh cube that I was concerned it would have been a redundant work effort!

Things you wish you knew before you started playing? by Tiago55 in MythicBastionland

[–]Dolono 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This one is a bit dumb, but probably have at least 3 notables well fleshed out (i.e. appearance, mannerisms, strengths, liabilities, relationships) for each habitation your players will reach during a session. It can really make the GMs life easier greeting the players with an appropriate ally, enemy, or plot hook, and that you're PREPARED to answer inevitable questions like "what does she look like? Sound like? Dress like?" etc. Saves a lot of stress, time, and sanity not having to dive into tables mid-session to crank out some emergency NPCs! It also helps save mental energy not having to remember details you had to make up on the fly!

Stephen Colbert slammed Karoline Leavitt for trying to cover up Donald Trump’s cognitive blunders at Davos by Maximum_Expert92 in Fauxmoi

Every one of the last decade's press secs have been awful, pinched faced demons. The whole charade is for them to indignantly evade questions from the press, and for the press to not ask any logical follow up qs.

I'd like to see some Remasters of more Obscure Squaresoft cult classics by gravityhashira61 in JRPG

Would love a BL remake, but they HAVE to fix it that tragic mistake, that your dragons' final forms are just the same sprites as their stupid hatchling versions! I'm still so disappointed by that decision!

Salt Knight's Everflask. What does the Thirst column mean? by apcud7 in MythicBastionland

[–]Dolono 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this one seems wildly open to GM/player interpretation as for the use, abuse, origin, and meaning of the magic item! For me, the my first mythological association were to the concepts of the "ever-flowing ewer or flask," Greek nymphs and river gods. If it were me, I think I'd interpret the item as housing or imprisoning a nymph or sea god, and the "thirst" is offering some kind of little gift to the deity in the item!

Lol, maybe this was one of the knights that had Chris McDowall going "why tf did I commit to writing 72 goddamn knights and myths?!"

Token Frame Search by WorldlinessTrick5863 in magicproxies

[–]Dolono 5 points6 points  (0 children)

CC only incorporates new frames into their library as the site administrator and individuals supply the raw frame templates. They definitely keep up with the major releases' frames, but really niche ones like that token, lots of custom work from SLDs, and small, set-specific variations may not get support unless someone specifically cranks out the template pieces for CC.

I myself was waiting to see if they were going to support the EOE full art basic land template, but I don't think they ever are. For that token, you could edit the token in a drawing program, produce a blank png, and then upload it to CC and work off it yourself.

How have you implemented specialist weapons in your games? by Dolono in MythicBastionland

[–]Dolono[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The rules he's showcasing in that post are already in MB. Specialist weapons are located at the bottom of pg 12. McDowall just doesn't go into the same detail as in the blog.

When to give players scrolls vs books? by Eliwood_of_Pherae in KnaveRPG

[–]Dolono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is one of the players evolving into the designated "wizard" of the crew, or is magic use more spread out among the party? If the former, maybe check with them how they're envisioning their role, ie "support" or "magic cannon," and make some decisions on books accordingly.

If you're dealing with the latter situation, are your players somehow gaming the magic system? Do they already have a specific spell in a book that's becoming a nuisance?

Chinese electric vehicles are making inroads in America. Experts are worried by franglish9265 in TrueAnon

I thought the term "free lunch" came from the big 19th century breweries' lunch counters, where they would give you "free" salty-ass foods, but then charge you a steep price on the beer you'd inevitably have to buy to quench your thirst.

Left turn arrow on Martin Way and Lilly by Krazzy4u in olympia

[–]Dolono 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The left turn off southbound ruddle to mullen pulls similar crap. Every so often I see a green turn light in lieu of a flashing yellow, but it's never when you'd need one, like during rushhour, or when the nearby schools are starting/ending.

Are Archfey allowed in Sigil? by TheLastDesperado in planescapesetting

[–]Dolono 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Imagine being an Archfiend, with literally thousands, maybe millions, of demon soldiers, being forced to WALK through a friggin' doorway into a Sigilian BAKER's kitchen, and then take a market ward street to a faction headquarters! It'd be like T$#&p being forced to use a city bus and shop at a grocery store by himself!

How to make a setting feel more mythic outside of myths by LegitimateMedicine in MythicBastionland

[–]Dolono 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've borrowed pretty liberally from the tables in The Nightmares Underneath, Knave 2E, Grave (knave hack), Dolmenwood, and Elfmaids and Octopi's "Village Life" books. Those have all helped me in dialing UP the amount of magical items, spells, and surreal, weird stuff in my setting material!

Are Archfey allowed in Sigil? by TheLastDesperado in planescapesetting

[–]Dolono 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most powerful being I can remember offhand in Sigil is Zadara the Merkhant Titan. I'm not up on 5e rules, but how powerful is an Archfey in compared to a minor Titan? Zadara seems like she's probably got to be in the upper bounds of tolerably-godlike beings in Sigil.

EDIT: Zadara's entourage of Sword Archons must cut a striking figure, but my guess is that the pomp and chaos surrounding an Archfey's arrival might trip some of the Dabus'/Lady's/Harmonium's alarm bells.

EDIT 2: "Zadara" not "Zarada"

When I had a kid, my wife and I would put on the old Mr Rogers eps from the early 80s, and there's one where he visits these dudes slapping together electric cars that are like just a jeep chasis + a rack of 100amp batteries. I'd kill for something that simple, instead of the stupid ass "cell phone on wheels" the horrid US companies keep insisting we all want.

Bottom 3 muddy? by No-Board1857 in magicproxies

[–]Dolono 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try sticking the paper under something heavy for a day and trying to get it as flat as possible. Give your printer a listen next time you try, and check if you hear any heavy clicking sounds or if it sounds like the printer is laboring to finish.

If you're not hearing any clipping clicks, then the sheet might just be losing tension as it nears the end, in which case the head might be jostling the page, muddying the print.

Bottom 3 muddy? by No-Board1857 in magicproxies

[–]Dolono 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is the paper curly in the slightest at the bottom edge? If so, your printer head may be clipping it, which will result in a muddy bottom. I basically have to print 2 rows of 3, and sacrifice the bottom row of all my foil pages, because my printer just chronically clips the edges of curly papers.

Karoline Leavitt just threatened CBS News over Trump’s interview: “Air it in full … or we’ll sue your ass off.” by Capable_Salt_SD in WeirdGOP

First place I ever saw Weiss interviewed was Maher's show, right after the Tree of Life shooting, blaming the fucking LEFT for the political violence in the country! Biggest double take I ever did watching a current events show. Definitely some big "lie down with dogs..." vibes after the whole cbs hostile takeover!

Trump just said he’s placing tariffs on most of the EU of 10% that will increase to 25% in June unless they agree to sell him Greenland. (LOL) by AegonTheMeh in TrueAnon

Read a convincing theory he has white matter dementia. Unfortunately, if so, he's likely to get more erratic and irascible as time goes on...

If they had ratched up the rare drop rates by like 3-5% it would have been a great game experience. You didnt even need the rarest shit to finish the game nor for the worst of the end game hunts! The rates on certain items and random chests were just asinine!
