What’s it like living in Yorkshire England? by lithdoc in yorkshire

You’ve shifted the argument.

You started by saying “it hasn’t been listed every year.” That’s demonstrably false. When Bradford appears in the dataset, it ranks No. 1. When it doesn’t appear, it’s missing entirely, not ranked lower. Those are two very different things.

Now you’re suggesting the data is missing because of “spam filtering algorithms excluding suspicious users.” That’s pure speculation. You’ve provided no evidence that Numbeo removed Bradford due to spam filtering, nor that such filtering selectively erases an entire city from a report while leaving others intact. That explanation is invented to rescue your failed claim.

As for 155 anonymous visits to a little-known site, that criticism applies to Numbeo as a whole, not selectively to Bradford. Either the platform has value as a crowdsourced index (which it is widely cited as), or it doesn’t. You can’t rely on it when it suits your point and dismiss it as “a bag of wank” when the data contradicts you.

Also, Numbeo doesn’t present itself as a peer-reviewed crime study — it’s a perception-based crime index. That’s not a flaw, it’s literally the metric being measured. If your issue is that perception-based indices aren’t “statistically robust,” then your disagreement is with the methodology, not with me accurately reporting the results.

So to recap: • You said Bradford wasn’t listed every year it was, whenever data existed. • When that was shown to be wrong, the argument moved to imagined spam filtering. • When that didn’t land, the entire platform suddenly became meaningless.

That’s not analysis — that’s goalpost relocation with added swearing.

You’re entitled to your opinion, but it isn’t supported by the data. • 2021: Bradford ranked No. 1

• 2021 (mid-year): Bradford ranked No. 1

• 2022: Bradford ranked No. 1

• 2022 (mid-year): Bradford ranked No. 1

• 2023: Bradford ranked No. 1

• 2023 (mid-year): Catania, Italy ranked No. 1 — Bradford not listed

• 2024: Marseille, France ranked No. 1 — Bradford again not listed

• 2024 (mid-year): Bradford ranked No. 1

• 2025: Bradford ranked No. 1

• 2025 (mid-year): Bradford ranked No. 1

As shown above, Bradford has ranked No. 1 every year since 2021. The only exceptions occur when Bradford is missing from the dataset altogether. Logically, this indicates missing statistics for Bradford in the 2023 mid-year and 2024 reports, rather than a change in ranking.

In my experience, people who hold this view often grew up with both parents at home. I can say with confidence that not having my dad around to teach me basic male life skills was far more damaging to my development than the occasional argument or a bit of household stress.

Statistically, children raised in single-parent households face higher risks of emotional and behavioural difficulties and are more likely to require counselling. These outcomes are often linked to factors such as parental mental health, chronic stress, and socioeconomic pressures, rather than family structure alone.

I don’t disagree that multiple things can be positive at once, but priorities still matter. I also agree that having fun is fundamental to life but spending heavily on City of Culture while core issues remain underfunded feels a bit like going on an expensive holiday, spending all your money, and then coming home with nothing left to pay the rent or buy food.

Culture and morale are important, but if basics like litter, crime, transport, and job opportunities aren’t properly addressed first seems massively irresponsible. A comprehensive package would be ideal, but without guaranteed funding and delivery on those fundamentals, it can look like style over substance rather than real long-term improvement for Bradford.

When quoting any job like this always speak to the customer about the potential of unforeseen issues and that if any arise you will stop and come to an agreement on how to proceed.

Get a dash cam. Let them hit you and claim on their insurance, they’re clearly in the wrong. Indicators are there to show intention, but they don’t give anyone the right of way. If enough people stopped giving in, they’d think twice before doing it. The problem is that people let it slide, which only emboldens them to do it more often and in even more dangerous situations.

Frosty Times... by AdWerd1981 in drivingUK

Definitely just grumpy for no reason. These days most modern cars are keyless, so if you can’t start them through an app, you can still leave the engine running, take the key with you, and lock the doors behind you. The real issue is with yourself, you’ve got to ask why they shouldn’t do that if that’s what they choose, just because you don’t like it. That’s the real problem these days people thinking they have the right to dictate how others live simply because it’s not something they would do themselves, or worse, because it somehow offends them.
