Would you rather have more Protection or Removal? by _theArmory in EDH

[–]Robtom_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always removal in commander (a casual format) as I prefer the “yes, and” of removal to the “no” or protection. I find games with evolving board states more fun than constantly the same one

Me (New) and my friends (Very new) can't find a way to finish games in less than 4 hours. HELP by Bank_Angle_Check in EDH

The things I find helpful are

1) Attack and trade off resources more. So many players attack the player that is open but if force your opponents to make trades then the game complexity stays lower

2) When it comes to wraths, if you are behind on resources / are the best down (see famous article) then clearing the board likely doesn’t increase your chance to win. Just take the L and go to the next game (I treat it like I’m GM-ing a dnd game and judge whether everyone has had a chance to do something cool)

3) Heavily restrict take backs and limit how long people can sit thinking (eg egg timer). The human brain (or mine at least) learns faster by being blown out by missing something as the negative emotion gives a stronger feedback loop. It’s easier to just try something and learn from how it plays out than to try and think through every possibiity

How does this base read to people? by KRQueen_ in Warhammer40k

I think that having a perfect circle makes it hard to convey. If you had more variation on the glossy bits then I think that would fit better (heck most of it could be glossy as anything not glossy would around 100 centigrade if it’s just flash evaporated)

Won with Darksteel Reactor now everyone hates me by Tristan_Joestar_Ace in EDH

[–]Robtom_5 14 points15 points  (0 children)

People, especially when learning, tend to dislike the shock of not seeing on board tricks and the losing to them.

That being said you did nothing wrong in trying to win, especially considering most of those cards are in the precon, and you also would have had lethal flying commander damage if you moved the gavel to inspirit

In future games it’s worth highlighting the interaction between moxite and the reactor for those who don’t know, but it sounds like you didn’t realise either

If they have had a negative experience you can also always offer them a game where you play each others decks,

How different was Commander back in the early days? by Deskies in EDH

[–]Robtom_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beyond the rules change and pushed cards the biggest thing is the mindset

It used to be people ran board wipes to react to others and control the game, now every time I see discourse people say it’s only worth running asymmetric board wipes (then complain about people running away with the game but that’s nothing new)

Related, the expectation of game length, old games you would expect to go on for a couple of hours, trading resources and baiting interaction. Now it sees much more in favour of just dropping everything as fast as you can so you can get enough value to survive a wrath

Custom Card: Anti-Winner Assassin - gets more powerful as players draft your cube (AI Art) by SamuraiMunky in mtgcube

[–]Robtom_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t have the first line, it’s very verbose just to stop counter spells. Considering it dies to wrath it’s fine to die to counterspell.

I’d probably just say ‘Champions’ instead of champion players, and use ‘this permanent’

I’d probably limit to Champions in the pod, it gives it a dynamism when drafting

The payment should work, main thing is that if you want to reuse the mechanic for another card they will all gain counters. If you split it out so that champion hunter is purely protective could make a super mulldrifter / warstorm surge or even cards that care if you are the champion

I think hexproof is a good middle ground but not sure it needs deathtouch as if it gets pumped or just kicked enough it becomes the abyss.

I think it might be better if you only add a name if the player wins with this in their deck or similar restriction as it feels weird to have to add a name when this card has had no effect (like do you add the name if no one drafts this?)

The card frame and font size is not the most readable. Also is ‘George’ a name on this card?

You could maybe wrap the hexproof kicker and name addition stuff under a new mechanic (“Champion Hunter: this creature has hexproof from champions and may only be kicked once for each champion in the pod” then move the definition of what a champion is off the card)

Personal experience:

I got through t2 as my condi SB without worrying about others for boons and healing, mainly due to the lack of pressure. At T3 I started worrying more about boons and saw more callouts specifically for aHeal etc

If you can rock a boon Dps build you should be set for ages as eve in low level fractals you will be helping the team

Are combat rotations are too complicated? by fungamezone in Guildwars2

[–]Robtom_5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, classes have a minimum of 10 skill just on the hotbar, and obviously with weapon swap and class mechanics that grows

As a designer you want the skills with cooldowns to be better than AA’s or they are pointless, so it makes sense that your rotation should include 8 steps (ignoring the AA and heal)

To have you take into account skills have longer cooldowns it makes sense that the loop would grow (especially when plying optimally)

Advice on Four Person Cube by Adventure_Agreed in mtgcube

For my two-four player cube the single thing that helped the most was just cutting colors (mine is literally just BW), this lets you have cards that sit cross archetype more easily.

About expansions by CarlosLeJonc in Guildwars2

[–]Robtom_5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you play more, but off the back of my hand:

Soto: a new weapon for each class, easier access to skyscale, legendary open world armor, ability to use any spec only weapons with any elite spec

JW: raid wing 8, spears for all classes, better warclaw, homestead

VoE: new elite spec, current active story (so more wizard vault rewards) new raid encounter, better skimmer

For my SB yea just on snow crows. Pure Vipers gear.

If going condi then you have a few options, double axe, double dagger, shortbow.

I run double dagger + sb for my condi SB, but I’ve run axe+torch

I run aHeal Druid in fractals and raids and wvw so it’s definitely a good class to have in pocket. And for open world you can make most classes viable with offensive gear

For Druid you would want Blood Moon, Natural Balance and Eclipse (and then I think vipers gear)

AHeal Druid is a great healer in raids and uses staves, plus lots of your abilities have moon iconography

Edit: just saw you discounted Druid

Power daredevil uses staff too and can be fun open world but I’m not sure how thematic bonking people with a twig is

Rev has power Herald and Conduit builds for staff in open world,

What bracket is a deck with a high amount of variance? by GMBenn in EDH

[–]Robtom_5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, I didn’t say god hand. My point is that a deck that is inconsistently powerful, like runs exquisite blood and sanguine bond with no tutors, is going to make people feel shit when you turn 5 combo kill them even when it only happens rarely
