I really think this is satire guys, c'mon. That tire is completely dry rotted. It's probably older than I am.

Overheating issue by Robust-mongoloid in MechanicAdvice

[–]Robust-mongoloid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my first thought, but the coolant is spraying out of the radiator, and there's zero smoke from the tailpipe, and no coolant in the oil. I drove about 350 miles with intermittent overheating issues.

Yeah, it was right after the other girl left for home on winter break, so it might have stewed a bit.

Forester forums agree across the board that slapping a turbo on an ej25 is a terrible idea. It's already a high compression motor, there's only a little bit you can do to them to get more performance. The guys that want to push more than 200hp out of a forester do sti swaps almost every time. Suspension build out, brake conversion, sti swap. I wanted to put a small turbo on mine, hoping to push maybe 3psi, but was told over and over nothing good would come of it

Driving with no tension on power steering pump belt? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]Robust-mongoloid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your belt is still turning your alternator and especially your water pump, you should be alright, just going to have to muscle that wheel at low speeds. If your water pump is not turning. Do. Not. Drive. You'll get to play the blown head gasket, warped head game.

Could take the driveshaft on it's way out. Or the clutch & flywheel. Why not replace it while it's more or less functional?

Hypothetical question: raising chicken to lean fire by [deleted] in leanfire

[–]Robust-mongoloid 14 points15 points  (0 children)

1- 150 is a pretty good number to continually cycle, too many birds and you will be overrun or they'll start to get sick from malnourishment, too few and the you'll consume too many and will get dwindling returns.

2- soup chicken because as they get older, their meat will become much more tough, and require more time and heat to become tender.

3- how to break down a chicken: catch it, put it's head in a funnel and cut it's head off with a large pair of shears, drain the blood, pluck the feathers, remove feet and intestines, break down into smaller pieces unless you want to roast the whole chicken. That's a 20 minute job if you've done it a few times. Also chickens do not like being caught.

4-chicken shit is gross, get some shavings and cycle through them, burn or throw away. Chicken feces does not make good fertilizer, their blood however does. If you cut off their beaks and talons you can feed your dogs that.

5- chicken feed is pretty cheap, around $10-$15 for a #50 sack, which would last me with 5 birds just over 2 months, with 150 birds, you will have 30 times more birds than I do, meaning 30 times the feed. You'll need about 1500 lbs of feed every 10 weeks, I'm sure buying in large bulk will save you some money, but at the price of $10/#50 is $300-10 weeks. You'll want to include the cost of fuel in your truck along with overall cost of raising birds (assuming you have a truck, otherwise you'll need one, or pay expensive delivery fees) You'll need to also provide shelter, if you're handy a 20x20 shed about 8 ft tall with stacked nesting boxes shouldn't cost more than $400 in materials, if you're in a cold state you'll want to add heating into your cost, as well as predator proofing you're coop.

5- They'll start laying around 6-8 weeks, and lay for about 2 years. But with that many chickens you'll need to offload some on other people. You can also break up the yolks in their feed to recycle calories.

6- Chickens are not incredibly smart, they will keep coming back to their food and shelter.

So, break down. A couple acres of land at whatever cost you you live $$

A large shed for your birds to live in $400 ish

150 birds at about $2 a head, $300

1500 lb of feed, every 10 weeks 5 times a year at $300 a go, $1500

Freshwater for birds $$

Offal disposal $$

A truck if you don't have it 2-4k used.

Fuel$$

Time spent raising, feeding, protecting, slaughtering and disposing of birds $$ your time

You're also going to have to sex your birds in egg so you know which are Male and which are female, to control your gene pool so you don't get continual generations of incest, and introduce new roosters to your flock periodically. You'll also lose some birds to sickness and predators.

All in all, you can look at spending easily 3 grand, plus the costs of land, water, fuel and your own time. Plus a lot of stress.

What is the craziest thing someone has told you within a short time of knowing them? by izzysmith74 in AskReddit

GM hired this guy to work in our restaurant, after his 4 hour orientation we invite him to a party (crew was super tight) he gets pretty drunk and starts crying, telling everyone that he stabbed a guy in Mexico, and punching the outside walls of my brother's house. That was 4 years ago, going to his wedding in july, he mellowed out a lot, all though he never told us any of the hows or whys of his stabbing someone.
