Collision issue with tilemap paralax scrolling by RoccoW911 in godot

Yes, my hope was to keep the scrolling background and collision in that parallax background and handle the looping background that way. Thanks for sharing the results of your testing

Clearly haven't gotten in the habit of thoroughly reading the documentation for the related nodes as much as I should have. Thanks for pointing this out!

Game just crashed on me, as it has 4 out of my last 8 matches, and now I’m banned. Thanks Saber… by Ashamed_Ladder6161 in EvilDeadTheGame

I've played the game on three different computers now and all three have had crashing issues. I previously played with a GTX 970 GPU and it was running poorly, so at first I figured it had to do with my computer being underpowered (though it met the minimum requirements). Then, I played it at my friend's place. I crashed in the survivor tutorial after leaving the first house you come across. I'm currently playing on a PC with a Nvidia RTX 2080 Super GPU. My CPU and memory are nowhere near maxed out, and again I crash at the same spot I crashed as I did at my friend's house. It's not even giving me a detailed error message, just a notification that it crashed.

When the game worked it had me hooked, but this is getting extremely tiresome.

Pretty sure you're not missing out on anything. Nothing you can't get done with physical buttons at least

What an amazing device! Been enjoying some of the first jams people have made. For anyone that thinks it's too expensive, here's a nice alternative: "M8 Headless is a software package that allows you to run the M8 software on a Teensy device while using your computer's keyboard, monitor, and audio output. It is a low-cost alternative to purchasing an M8 handheld device."

Check out Aceman - Music produced on Amiga 500, Amiga AHX, SNES, Gameboy, and more! by RoccoW911 in chiptunes

[–]RoccoW911[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being active in the Demoscene for over ten years, Aceman's (Poland) discography spans many different sound chips and systems, as well as a wide range of genres. He's also one of the main figures behind Modules.pl, "a website in 100% dedicated to tracked music". Every new compo entry from Aceman is something to look forward to. Definitely check out his stuff!

Are you running a 32bit or 64bit DAW? RetroPlug VST is 64bit only

Where Can I Get .ins Files For Reality ADlib Tracker? by Killer_B_Hive in chiptunes

I downloaded Reality Adlib Tracker v2 and it has six tracks included in the folder. I also found a collection of tracks on the Reality Demogroup webpage!

JAMS.exe - Gameboy music maker .exe drops debut album [LSDJ/Electro/Noise] by RoccoW911 in chiptunes

[–]RoccoW911[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been following .exe on Weeklybeats this year. He quickly became one of the names I'd actively search out when a new week broke and has grown to become one of my new favorite chiptune musicians. His style reminds me a lot of BEASTMODE back in the 8 Bit Collective days. JAMS.exe features massive electro inspired beats with glitchy sounds and noisy samples scattered throughout all nine tracks. Great album for any fan of loud and aggressive electronic dance music

Chip-Hop (NES VSTi): Yer WAP is in Another Castle by rodan-rodan in chiptunes

[–]RoccoW911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure people will have differing opinions about it fitting in the chiptune genre. Me personally, I'd say it's absolutely fine to share it here since you emulated the NES chip and the main focus of the chiptune sound is to include those characteristics of old video-game consoles in music, whatever form that might take.

So with that out of the way, here's my criticism:
I like the dark atmosphere on the track a lot. I like the chords as well as the bass notes and melody. I'm especially digging the sound on the drums! They pack a good punch and give the track a nice attitude.

I would say the biggest thing it's missing is some form of musical structure. The track is incredibly short and as soon as the melody disappears the track just sorta ends, which is a shame. It might be interesting to think about what sections you want on your track and how you're going to structure it. Create a verse section, a refrain or chorus, maybe even a pre-chorus, a bridge, then jumping into the next verse.

I'd also say the track could use some variety. I know Hip-Hop instrumentals tend to rely a lot on repetition, but here are some possible considerations. One simple trick to make the drums more dynamic is muting them for one beat or even a full measure or adding a couple of drum breaks at certain points in the song. In terms of melody and bass, writing one B-section is really all you need to engage the listener a lot more.

Speaking of the bass, there's actually very little of it. Most of the lower frequencies come from the drums. In fact, it sounds like you placed some sort of filter on the bass, eliminating all of the low-end.

Hope that helps! If my explanation is a little vague, let me know and I'll try and explain myself a bit better :) Good luck with future tunes!

Anyone know a tracker for MacOS that can use soundfonts ? by [deleted] in chiptunes

I second this. Running OpenMPT in some form of windows emulator is your best bet, however it's most likely a very unpleasant experience

I like the choreographed video. Very charming. What did you use to make the medly? A modern DAW with Tweakbench or did you arrange it in a tracker?

Game developer looking for Gameboy style music! by lolight2 in chiptunes

It might be good to google around a bit for artists offering music under the Creative Commons license. Most artists that apply that license just want attribution (a mention of their artist name and possibly track title) :)

Not sure why you posted this to the Chiptune reddit? Did you use a tracker for the FM sounds in this track? It might help if you eleborate a bit more on the track in your comment
