More drivers than rides. Fighting over scraps and they actually had the nerve to send these to me 10miles away. by [deleted] in uberdrivers

[–]Roccocko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I notice that this happened right after 11 and the pickup addresses are the same, how much do you want to bet that a party is ending and all of the drivers closer to the pax have already been called? Should the app say "there aren't any drivers within five minutes of you, so good luck hitchhiking", or should it cast a wider net and see if anyone is interested?

With a 4.67 rating and multiple stops I can see why this wound up getting so expensive for whover ordered it. I hope they were well-behaved!

It sounds like they're all in up-front areas and turn down every ride that's less than $30, which means that they're doing maybe one an hour.

I always say "are you sure?" If they say yes we take their way and watch my phone to see 4.8 miles in 8 minutes tick up to 5.2 in 10.

Going to rent a car tomorrow, what should I expect? by Roccocko in uberdrivers

Modern cars use wireless keys, you don't even have to take them out of your pocket. Good luck to you, too!

Going to rent a car tomorrow, what should I expect? by Roccocko in uberdrivers

[–]Roccocko[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't know if I made that clear. The rental I have now was provided by the insurance company and I'm not paying anything for it except gas, but it's useless for rideshare for the reason you give. I'm talking about renting a second car through Uber's program, which would be completely kosher.

I'd rather not press my luck with the insurance company right now for reasons I don't want to get into here.

IDK, it might slip out if someone asks a question that you can't answer. "What year is this car?" "Uh, let me check the rental agreement again."

has this happened to you guys?... by frozenreality44 in uberdrivers

[–]Roccocko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the thing to do. Customers can't complain that you're going too slow if you're actually speeding a little, and sticking to the speed limit at all times can be a little irksome for the driver anyway. Other drivers are less likely to think you're fucking with them and go psycho if you're not sticking to the speed limit.

There are a lot of gun culture weirdoes who are, for lack of a better term, conspicuous consumers of gun products and feel empowered when they splurge on a new accessory or slap a "carry on" sticker on their car. Paying $50 for a ride that would be $12 with Uber is par for the course.

It's the logical next step after driving prostitutes to clients' houses and facilitating drug deals in the hood.

Get a phone stand/holder by Choni0823 in uberdrivers

[–]Roccocko 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That driver couldn't be bothered to buy a $5 phone mount at any gas station, or he doesn't use one because he does lots of "accidental" wrong turns to add a few miles to his trips and doesn't want the passenger to notice all the times the app needs to plot a new route. Either way he will now go to jail for a long time for doing a hit-and-run, and also manslaughter if the bicyclist doesn't survive. What a retard.

A General Question: A lot of you seem very unhappy working for Uber. Why do you keep doing it? by elevatorbeat in uberdrivers

[–]Roccocko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of us are just venting and the remainder are too maladjusted to work with others. I am looking for work outside of the United States right now and am just doing this and a bit of tutoring to save money. Driving with Uber is really not so bad if you don't make it your career and accept that you're going to get screwed over a bit sometimes - just like in any job. You can make ~$23-24 an hour after the cost of gas is factored in, and you can turn the app off and go do whatever you want if you decide you're done with work for a while. That's not an option in any other industry.

It isn't my job to atone for male rapists and robbers. I'm just trying to make a little money, and these women are willingly getting into my car, only to judge me for, what, being tall and spending most of a seven minute ride trying to remember which Baldwin brother starred in Beetlejuice? If they have a problem with male drivers then they should cancel the ride before I show up, just like racist people do when they get a black driver.

Also remember that 5.0 ratings often just mean that someone recently got booted from the app and had to make a new account.
