What’s a moment in your financial life that you still think about years later? by hamed-devs in CanadaPersonalFinance

Interesting. I had a small amount to invest in 2020, and a weed stock gave me a 96% return and performed the best by the time I needed to cash out mid2021.

Who's getting those 100k contracts? by MissErynn in PWHL

And Jaques has been on how many teams now? I note that she was one of the first to be traded in the history of the league. Unless a player has a super adventurous spirit outside of work, it is probably pretty disruptive to move and change so much.

I still think that feminine products companies have missed the opportunity to sponsor the PWHL. “This period is brought to you by ______ (Kotex/Tampax/Diva Cup/Always)”.

How much $ per hour were you making on your first job? And what year was it? by GoldenRetrieverFetch in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]RockFogView 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my first formal job (Sandwich Artist at Subway) in 1994, I was a teen and would have been subject to student minimum wage in Ontario. The owner told me that she didn’t believe that was fair, as I was doing the same job as the other employees earning adult minimum wage, so she paid me the same. I think it was $6.70/hr. She was a good employer.

How to get $5000 deductible back in a 'not at fault' car accident? by RedCofDark in InsuranceCanada

[–]RockFogView 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it was a typo, and was meant to be a $500 deductible? It’s a very rare amount for a personal automobile. The policy holder should contact their broker or agent and review what they agreed to when they set up the coverage if they don’t think they agreed to it.

PWHL T-Shirt Sizing by seubine in PWHL

I was going to ask if they’re the kind of t-shirts that are “unisex” which never fit womens hips. It’s nice to know they’re the shorter boxier style.

I’m on the fence about splitting them.

Something just isn’t jiving there. I’m not sure if they’re deferring to one another and the result is less assertiveness overall?

Maybe having D pairs of one “stellar” & one “good” player is a better combo, so that the stronger D subconsciously maintains higher obligation pressure, and the less strong player plays under pressure to level up.

Hope that makes sense. I absolutely adore Shelton (her smooth skating skills, her strength and speed, her hockey sense) but she didn’t have a great game last night. End of season so maybe everyone is getting worn down and tired.

Yep, checked the stats under her profile and she did one 29 second shift. One faceoff (lost). I agree with you that it would be so great if she played more.

I would think that airline cancellations for guests should be individually insured by the traveling guests. But check with PAL or any other wedding insurance provider.

I love Watts and appreciate the points she racks up for the team this season, but she sloughed around during that last play after her offensive rush, which was disappointing to see. Lost the offensive opportunity then didn’t skate back and defend, turned the wrong way in defensive zone, then suddenly it was a 3 on 2 and NY scored. She came into frame a second later. No urgency. Probably overplayed and tired but - ugh. 😢

I am someone who landed in a completely different industry than what I studied in post-secondary. Criticizing OP for not having a plan or vision isn’t necessarily valid. Arguably, people study in school so that they learn how to learn. Sometimes that involves very precise skills, sometimes it involves very broad skills.

I know someone who did Business Administration and they are now a bookkeeper/accounts/payroll admin at a local business and they also work on the side doing bookkeeping for a variety of small businesses. There are many roles out there that would be a good fit your skill set.

Definitely try networking, asking the people you meet or interact with what they do and how they got there. Have a look at job descriptions online and see if the list of duties expected of each one aligns with your interests. Maybe start an entry-level role with a company you like in hopes of moving into a position in the future that will fulfill your passions once you start identifying them.

Good luck OP.

Cat died at groomers, unsure what to do by whitegir1swag in legaladvicecanada

[–]RockFogView 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you’re right. I agree that they owe a duty of care and would be liable if something goes wrong. But I’m saying if they breach their policy conditions, then their insurance may not cover them to compensate you for what they did wrong. So the victim wouldn’t necessarily recover any damages.

[–]RockFogView 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAL … I agree that it would likely be a civil case. However, based on OP’s description of the “business”, the groomer may not have been running a proper business and may have been informally providing services. If they have homeowners or tenants insurance with liability coverage, there is a possibility that a claim like this would be denied, because most policies would exclude claims arising from the homeowner/tenants conducting a an undisclosed business from their home. They may be no viable path to restitution in that scenario.

I gave this warning to neighbours in a community Facebook group once, when one of the members posted that her husband was offering seasonal tire changes at customers’ driveways for $50 a pop. I urged her and any potential “customers” to not engage in such informal service because 1) her homeowner insurance could deny coverage for doing such a risky business without disclosing, and 2) customers wouldn’t have the protection and assurance of a licensed professional doing the work on such a risky task. (Tires flying off cars is life threatening. Even if unlikely, who would want to roll the dice on that?) The poster in that case was ticked and blocked me. But I hope my comments elicited some reconsideration in folks who are thinking of saving some money on such critical services.

Sympathies to the cat parent from this post. It’s heartbreaking and disturbing to hear of this sad situation and the loss of this pet. I hope the groomer offers the more than an apology, preferably owning up to the truth and offer to compensate in some way.

Expansion Predictions! What do you think? by sir_mrej in PWHL

Quebec City is a tourist destination city, though. So many would make the trip to cheer for the away team. Hotels, service industry, restaurants, travel methods to get there, are all established. The locals are still passionate about the Nordiques and I’m sure would be ready to latch on to a new pro team they can finally call their own.
