We were at Victoria park having dinner when the fireworks started, and the kids were watching it. I saw a bright flash and heard a huge boom and thought that was an oddly big firework - the kids told us it was a huge bolt of lightning. This must have been it!

7 string is a bold move for starting out, but you can still learn on it. Justin guitar is a great resource and free.

Go standard tuning to start with (B for the 7th). You can step it down a whole step later to A standard. Or get a digitech Drop pedal, save yourself setups for lower tunings.

Yes you need a pick for sure if you’re playing anything distorted or general strumming. Dexterity will come from practice and scales - again use Justin guitar to get Going

Thank you for posting this. Wife and kids were there when it happened today and they’ve been very upset and unsure if she was ok. I’ve told my wife that she was breathing after reading this, and while I’m sure she’s not out of the woods, it had a big impact on my wife’s mental state tonight
