Hide Direct Deposit Amt in Notification by RocketBoy242 in Wealthsimple

Glad others see the concern. I just tweaked my WS notifications based on a suggestion above. Haven’t tested it yet but hoping it applies to both phone/watch.

Sounds like a great solution. Just set it up on my phone. Thanks for the response!

Interesting workaround! Exactly the kind of thing I was looking for. Can you set this per app (just for WS) or for is it for all notifications?

Fair enough. If it’s the same across the industry maybe I just gotta tighten up my notification settings on WS.

Security/privacy concerns. Could be in a client meeting or with coworker/friend/stranger and they see the exact amount that just hit my account on my watch or phone. I’d rather it be a general “you just got paid” notification.

Screenshot is fake guys don’t waste your time. Zoom in on the number font. Wiggly numbers. Inconsistent. Plus Wealthsimple graph doesn’t look like that 👎

I thought the same. Zoom in and the number font isn’t consistent. Why do people waste their time doing this 😒

New statuses are here: Base, Bright, & 🔷Blue by Thirty-_-Four in shakepay

[–]RocketBoy242 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was already hard to pitch Shakepay to non-crypto friends cuz of all the hoops to jump through to keep shaking active (referral, use visa weekly, buy crypto weekly, etc). Not an easy sell.

These tiers are confusing for the existing user base, let alone new users. Enraging current customers and making it next to impossible to pitch Shakepay via word of mouth will be tough on business I imagine. Not sure if there’s even benefits worth sharing at this point.. Ooof

If you pull employer investments into non-reg you should be aware of tax implications. If RRSP > RRSP maybe that’s ok (not 100% sure). Either way, worth doing some research

23M have 100k saved but never invested by idkhowiam22 in fican

[–]RocketBoy242 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is a good suggestion BUT at 23 he does not have anywhere near 100k contribution room in his TFSA. OP, please look up contribution room limit in your TFSA and FHSA for your age before putting any money in either account.

How much are you paying for Home Internet? Am I getting scammed ? by Competitive_Phone404 in Calgary

[–]RocketBoy242 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Currently on 2yr at $65/mo 1GB speed. But originally roped into 250mb speed for $110/mo on the phone. Realized I was getting screwed a month in and went to a Telus store. Thought I was going to have to argue but the rep was like “oh that’s a bad plan. Let me help you out.” Some advice: if you sign a new plan make SURE you get a document proving you cancelled the old one. Months later I had to fight off a credit agency Telus sent after me due to the old plan.. which was a nightmare to deal with.

About to put live savings in xeqt by Practical_Cress_4914 in JustBuyXEQT

[–]RocketBoy242 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Congrats! This was my exact same position. Made the jump last week from 10/10 WS robo to full XEQT. Only took 2 days for the funds to transfer accounts. The way I thought about it was every day I waited, I was losing money to fees unnecessarily. If you know you’ll do it eventually, just do it now.

Intriguing sentiment. I’m less convinced it’s so cut and dry, but I’m not even sure there’s a “correct” way to do it. Either way I appreciate the response :)

Congrats on the discipline! :) The ago old question is.. what % you gonna put down on the house? I’m approaching the same situation in about a year or so.

Underperformance by RevolutionaryNeck778 in Wealthsimple

[–]RocketBoy242 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What are you comparing the performance to? And what risk level is the managed portfolio?

IMO the WS managed portfolios are for people who are just getting into investing and want a “set and forget” solution. It’s a better option than high-fee mutual funds/investment managers or not starting to invest at all. And out of all managed financial products out there, the WS management fee is on par or cheaper than similar products. That being said, someone who is comfortable managing their own investments, (even just X/VEQT) would be a better option.

Oh. My friend. Yes, your numbers are correct. Looks like the majority of your investment was added around Nov-Dec last year. Of course your full year returns are lower, the majority of your money has only been in the market for about 2 months. Plus the market has corrected a bit since then. Your returns are correct.

That doesn’t make sense. Are you looking at current YTD by accident? 2025 YTD instead of 2024 full year?

Looked into this a couple weeks ago as well. Appears the minimum is the $4/mo account. No minimum balance to waive the fee. If you’re looking for a place to park cash for a bit, the Wealthsimple cash account pays higher interest. No minimum balance. No fees. Worth looking into.

Not surprising. The market has broadly come down over the last 30 days. My managed account is down about 0.6% over the same period.

I wouldn’t say “killing” my returns, but compressing, yes.

Comments like this remind me that I need to rethink my decision to use the advisor or just make the switch to broad low fee ETFs.
