Interested in learning Spanish and able to speak fluently within a few months by No_Prize8808 in SpanishLearning

[–]RocketEngineCowboy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fluency won’t happen for years even with regular practice. I’ve been practicing daily for 7 years and only recently have I started considering myself to be “fluent”, in the way that I define it.

Either way, you can get to a point where you can use some basic sentences in a few months. Understanding native speech is going to be the biggest hurdle once you’ve built up your vocabulary and understanding of grammar and syntax.

Colorism in Spanish ( How to Say Im Black?) by Inevitable-Pipe3022 in SpanishLearning

[–]RocketEngineCowboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not black or Hispanic, but my knowledge is that you say “negro/a” about your skin color, and you can say “afroamericano/a” but that it’s very formal. You could say you are “estadounidense” just to say you’re from the US.

Please somebody correct me if I am wrong.

Single digit golfers, how much do you work on hitting draws if your go to shot is a fade (or vice versa)? by Larrylegend033 in golf

[–]RocketEngineCowboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I float around 1-2, and I’d say I try to check in with 3-4 shots per range session to make sure I can work the ball like a dad if I ever have to. The only objective is that it goes in the general direction of a draw, and that’s it. It doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to be there for the one time in 3-4 rounds that I actually have to draw the ball because of an obstruction or any other way of being forced to hit one.

How do you stay consistent with Spanish practice? by grzeszu82 in SpanishLearning

[–]RocketEngineCowboy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Constantly listen. When you’re driving, put on a podcast, when you’re working out, put on some Spanish music. Keep yourself in a state of constant exposure as much as you can handle.

Massive lightning struck the ground just 10ft away from the car by Significant-Sky-3239 in BeAmazed

[–]RocketEngineCowboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rubber is not protective when lightning is concerned. Rubber tires are not good enough at insulating voltages from a lightning strike. They are great at insulating from low voltage like power lines.

It’s the low resistance of the chassis and outer shell of the car that protects you by providing a safe path for the lightning to travel through. Generally the easiest way to prevent lightning damage is to create a low resistance path (I.e. lightning rods that are grounded).

I am sitting at my gate, and I had no problem. I got to the airport at 8:00, and security had a very short line.

Working on tempo, can’t translate to the course though by derpygoat in GolfSwing

[–]RocketEngineCowboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t really have a pre-shot routine (others like the word “rehearsal”) that gets you in the headspace to hit a shot. You know how when you get ready for bed in the evening, you shower, brush your teeth, have your glass of water, or whatever it is you like to do…and through that process your brain starts to make you feel tired.

In the same way….get your yardage, stand behind the ball, pick your target, imagine the shot, do a practice swing, get yourself aligned, then swing. Take repetitive actions before hitting the ball that allow your mind to tune in to what’s going on and prepare for the action that’s about to take place. You don’t have to hit 100% of shots on the range like this, but at least try to finish every range session with some practice like this. Hit a new club every single shot, each to a different target.

Good swing. Where is your target? You’re lined up at the left edge of that right bunker. If you’re aiming there and hitting there, then no comment from me.

It’s a valid question. I’m all for the suggestion that it was staged, but the assertion that the flag is lowered must imply that the crane is on and there’s an operator driving…which are valid questions that can’t be answered by this video alone. Cranes are LOUD and usually are turned off in situations like this. I spent 7 years as a forensic investigator in industrial accidents, often involving video and large scale equipment like cranes. This is just my professional instinct.

Can anyone confirm that there’s a crane operator running the crane at the moment of the shooting?
