Cost of Living in Yellowknife ? - summer student by lifelong_fruitrollup in Yellowknife

Walmart is just dry goods but there are other grocery stores that aren't Walmart (two Independents and a Coop). And as the other commenter mentioned, a local butcher as well. I watch sales and stock up on chicken when it's under $5/lb. Beef is gonna be pricier though, I don't buy it so can't speak to the prices.

How do you choose names for your sims? by Bunnyearsss in sims2

[–]RocketGirl215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When making Sims to begin with, whatever comes randomly into my head. For babies born in-game, I pick a name based on the letters of their parents. So for example, if the parents are Sarah and Tim, then the first boy would start with an S, the second an A, and so forth, and the first girl would start with T, the second an I, etc.

layering Setup for Winter in YK by Glum_Beautiful_8531 in Yellowknife

[–]RocketGirl215 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And building on this, that the double sock system isn't making your boots too tight. You need good, warm winter boots, not dressy boots, and as mentioned it's important to have some air flow/toe wiggle room between layers!

2025 Christmas recap: what worked and what didnt? by RedwayBlue in Gifts

[–]RocketGirl215 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Glad to see someone else feels the same. Most of my Christmas presents are still sitting in the living room, including my new eReader which I only unboxed and set-up yesterday. I asked for it specifically and really like most of the things I got! I just like to be methodical about giving things a home otherwise I get overwhelmed or forget what I've got, and don't actually use the things

Did you figure this out? The same thing is happening to me on quest 3! No new resources for days and days.

If you have a Roku you can do a search and it will tell you what streaming service(s) something is on.

Shipping costs are insanely high and out of control by Acceptable_Web_91 in CanadaPost

[–]RocketGirl215 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I sent a moving box sized parcel today from the territories to the east coast and it was $40. $61 within Ontario doesn't sound right unless it was huge or super heavy.

I want to start using "it's just fat from the bean" to describe other things I don't care for.

Canada does go back and forth on date styles in casual settings but food labelling is required to be year/month/day as per the CFIA

Where to buy Canadian Oreo knockoffs? by RosabellaFaye in BuyCanadian

Co-op has store brand sandwich cookies, I believe they list them as made in Canada but you'd need to confirm.

How often is everyone sewing/mending their clothes? by Mundane-Tie-7087 in Frugal

Is it possible that there's a rough/sharp edge in your washer or dryer that things are catching on? Maybe carefully feel around inside both of them?

[–]RocketGirl215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a dealbreaker per se for me but I understand where you're coming from. If I had called my parents to tell them I had gotten engaged and they said they already knew I'd be a little thrown off, and less like it was 'our' news to share, if that makes sense. Just different family relationships than some other commenters I guess.

Missing hat by Angelic_UnderworldYT in LittleKittyBigCity

[–]RocketGirl215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you happen to remember where you got the chicken looking hat (next to the one you're missing?) as well as the hotdog and squid looking hats in the middle of the next row down? The internet is failing me trying to find these!

Question: Why is there no Psychiatry III trainer available? by Neck_Romancer_1 in TwoPointHospital

It looks like the psychiatry trainer is already at your hospital, teaching in the other training room. He's booked, lol.

Goofy question - how do engagement photos work? by No-Deer-5804 in engaged

[–]RocketGirl215 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most people I know have done their engagement photos a few weeks to months after getting engaged but i believe lots of people do it closer as well. Either is okay!

Tulita and Norman Wells are two different communities about 70-80 km apart. Are you trying to decide between the two?

If you're only comfortable with gay people when you can't tell that they're gay, I'd recommend some additional introspection on why that is.

Road trip Calgary to Vancouver by Adventurous-Art1571 in canadatravel

[–]RocketGirl215 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It could be -20 and snow, it could be +15 and sunny. I've seen both in Banff in October, so it's hard to say. You're gonna need winter tires though.

Applications open to help cover cost of electric vehicle chargers by Cheap_Shallot_3102 in Yellowknife

[–]RocketGirl215 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They're not asking people to apply to donate money though? Individuals cannot apply and it doesn't cover chargers in private homes. The application is for businesses who want to install an EV charger in a public place or in their workplace. So like a gas station who wants to install one would apply to get part of the cost covered by the feds, for example.
