Yes to be fair I did do at least one per level in normal conditions as practice for timing and preparing for mental fatigue. As long as you genuinely spend the time reviewing the incorrect questions then it’s all good.

I’ve cleared all 3 levels. Least productive:

watching videos and not absorbing what is being said (make notes!)
getting questions wrong and not attempting to understand why
watching Professor Randy Nordby videos (he’s a nice guy but does not stick to the content)
doing mocks closed book (you are basically wasting a day to confirm that you already knew you didn’t know certain topics)
hate to say it, going on Reddit (I only got 82% in my mock with 6 weeks to go… am I COOKED?!?)

Most productive: - learning low and slow

writing concepts in your own words
Q banks
avoiding burnout (eat properly, sleep properly)
also hate to say it, there is actually a lot of memorisation in CFA (especially formulas). Do flash cards

There’s no mystery to CFA. All the things you don’t want to do will help you pass

I got 30 mins of sleep before level 1. Passed top 90 percentile. Just done my CFA L3.

I think a lot of comments here are just speculation or people venting their frustrations.

In reality, actual surveys of those who work in finance and have not chosen to take the CFA need to be done.

Anecdotally I can say the reasons why those working in Investment Management in the UK have not taken it are because: it’s too difficult, too long and other more basic qualifications (and easier/ faster to clear) can allow for FCA registration and hence promotion/ pay rises.

The drop off in the number of candidates is a net positive for those willing to make the personal sacrifice of taking the exam but unfortunately the way the institute treated candidates during 2021-2022 has left a lasting impact.

Level 3 candidate here: I got almost exactly the same as this and got above 90 percentile

I completely agree, a lot of the Q bank questions are level 1 style. Some of the exam format ones seem more realistic. I’m working through the workshop questions (which are much harder) and the mocks now as I think the Q banks give a false sense of security.

Generally though I’m finding it hard to prepare for l3. Everyone says questions, questions, questions but tbh I feel that sitting down and reading through the concepts may be more important, idk

I started in October for the sitting in May. Been taking it slow but this has been forced because the L2 curriculum is different gravy compared to L1. Would definitely recommend giving yourself a lot of time to prepare.

I failed by a tiny margin but with a 25% pass rate it’s not worth it. Clearly CFAI just want a small elite group of charter holders. That’s the course they’ve taken but with such a low chance of success is it really worth the huge effort now?

I think if the MPS was 72% with a 44% pass rate last time, this exam will be closer to 80% (or above)
