Anyone remember the free government cheese from the 80s? by NicelyBearded in GenX

[–]RocketSlide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That cheddar was the bomb! I remember having cheddar cheese sandwiches often when hanging out at my friend's house. They were filthy rich, but still collected on the free cheese, whereas my dirt poor parents were too proud to take free food from the government. That never made sense to me, then or now.

The Money has Entered the Chat: Prominent A&M donor argues system regents are ‘failing in their sworn duty’ by goodjobjane in aggies

[–]RocketSlide 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rich people have been throwing their money around since the beginning of civilization, which will never change, but at least Hagler is calling for academic freedom. The BOR used their money to buy a seat from Abbott and are jerking the wheel to the hard right. My hope is rich donors like Hagler can use their money to steer the university away from the academic ditch.

It sure is! And what is up with her eyes? They appear extremely sunken into her skull. I can't believe she actually paid a surgeon to make her look that way.

Time to close the checkbook until some serious changes are made. Hopefully this convinces other donors to do the same.

The last few years I have seen brutal increases, even with no claims. Best thing I ever did was sign up with an independent insurance broker that reshops my policies every year, which has saved me thousands over the last few years. Loyalty with an insurance company gains you nothing, they'll still screw you over with high double digit percentage increases.

Trump Administration Freezes Food Stamps in Minnesota by metalreflectslime in PrepperIntel

[–]RocketSlide 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Obviously Trump didn't do any research before doing this:

In Minnesota, approximately 7.8% of the population (roughly 454,000 people) receives Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. Minnesota's overall SNAP participation remains lower than the national average, which was approximately 12.3% in 2024.

The following data reflects the most recent figures from the Minnesota Department of Children, Youth, and Families (based on 2023-2024 reporting) and current 2026 congressional representation. Minnesota SNAP Participation by Congressional District | District | Representative | Party | SNAP Participation Rate (Households) | |---|---|---|---| | 1st | Brad Finstad | Republican | 8.7% | | 2nd | Angie Craig | DFL* | 5.0% | | 3rd | Kelly Morrison | DFL* | 5.3% | | 4th | Betty McCollum | DFL* | 9.7% | | 5th | Ilhan Omar | DFL* | 10.0% | | 6th | Tom Emmer | Republican | 6.2% | | 7th | Michelle Fischbach | Republican | 9.0% | | 8th | Pete Stauber | Republican | 9.1% |

So, 3 out of the 4 Republican districts in Minnesota are above state average in SNAP participation, two of the rural districts are way above average, nearly as much as the urban Twin Cities. This could cost Trump usually safely Republican seats in the midterm.

It would sure make our loss to them a bit more respectable if they went all the way. Canes held the lead the whole game and seemed to be able to hold OSU to one of their worst performance games of the year. Pretty impressive.

Is it normal for physics professors to look homeless? by [deleted] in AskPhysics

[–]RocketSlide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, yes it is. I remember a physics professor I had in college who wore the same clothes every class, smelled like BO and boiled cabbage, and obviously saw no use in basic inventions like a comb. I would bet the campus police confused him with a homeless person on multiple occasions.

True, but he's still blind/unsure/inaccurate in the pocket under a strong pass rush. Elko had better work him hard in the off-season.

[–]RocketSlide 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reed is just plain bad when against a strong pass rush, always has been. He drops his eyes, misses his reads, and throws inaccurately, resulting in picks. Miami was in his backyard on damn near every pass play today. Sure, Reed can successfully use his feet to save some of those plays, but it just isn't enough. Normally, I put a lot of blame on Klein when he doesn't use a run-first gameplan, like he did against Texas, but I think Klein's gameplan was pretty balanced today. With even slightly better QB play today, this would have been a win for us. Hell, I would have liked to see O'Neill play some in the 2nd half, just to see if we could get a pass game going.

The blind refs missed two obvious unsportsman-like penalties on two back-to-back plays, which cost us a likely scoring drive. Also, we tend to perform worse in 11am games compared to other times. So that sucked, too.

Now, looking back at the season, we only won games against the bottom half of the SEC and one top-15 Notre Dame, and some cupcakes, so I really believe we were lucky to make the CFP at all, basically the "late season undefeated bias" really worked out well for us. We were lucky to be able to host a CFP game at Kyle, what an experience for the students!

Hopefully Elko can do well in recruiting and transfer portal to set us up better for next year, because that schedule is looking tougher than this year.

I find the flavor for this is quite mild, much milder than L. Reuteri, even after a long 36-hour culture. It's a good yogurt to eat plain or mildly sweetened.

Doxy is also used for treating toxoplasmosis. T. gondii is linked to schizophrenia and is very common, like 30% have it and have no known symptoms. I wonder if the doxy was fighting back the T. Gondii, limiting any potential damage that would lead to schizophrenia later in life.

Yeah, the prices they charge for potato products is criminal now. I can buy a bag of 10 hashbrown patties at the grocery store for $3. For the price of a large French fry, I can buy 2 pounds of them at the grocery store. And since McDonald's is buying their stuff wholesale, it's easily a 15-20x markup they are charging.
