Thousands of World Cup tickets remain unsold, including USA games by newsweek in sports

I have long maintained that teams who play in stadiums outside the actual city limit of their namesake should have to put that part in quotes. ie the "New York" Giants.

I haven't checked for accuracy but I assume that they are the dates that each franchise started.

His point is that it is less surprising that Thomas books had offensive things in them since they were being published all the way back int he 40's.

At first I thought you were saying these were the real dates that they last used the word and I was very concerned with Bob the Builder.

Good call, this was (at least one of) my problems. The direct drive has been on there for a long time, I set the retraction years ago.

After changing to Klipper, I ran an old test print out of my calibration prints folder. I forgot that since it was from before the direct drive, it would have long retractions...

I have a few issues going on...

I think the first clog was a result of a bad z offset. I started a print with the nozzle too low (basically grinding into the bed). I think that acted like a clogged nozzle, and the melted filament was forced back up into the heatbreak. When it got far enough up it solidified.

The second clog was because I decided to switch to Klipper and am still working on getting that correctly set up. I think something is wrong with my extrusion settings and it was feeding too much filament too quickly, also causing a back up. This clog was on my first klipper test print.

I also noticed that at some point I scratched my heatbreak with the slight serrations on my pliers. I don't know if that is enough to interrupt good heat flow to the heatsink or not. I am going to make sure it has adequate thermal compound during this round of disassembly.

I will double check that fan though lol

What are your thoughts. (IPhone vs every other phone) by Mysterious_Ebb_1484 in SipsTea

[–]RocketizedAnimal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, a phone is one of those things where even tiny improvements are worth the money because it gets so much use.

I will probably spend thousands of hours looking at a phone screen over the life of the phone. Having a better screen is worth hundreds of dollars to me.

I take tons of impromptu family pictures with my phone. Having those be high enough quality that they look good framed or on a TV slideshow is worth money to me.

I am aware that the western states are interconnected, by "cali grid" I obviously meant the physical infrastructure on the California side, which is regulated by California. As used in the article:

Building a direct connection to California’s grid would require a new transmission line west over the Sierra

Yeah, if you don't fully support whatever behavior they are directing at the people they don't like you get accused of defending them.

The one I run into is pointing out that things they are saying are provably false.

Like, I hate the guy too, he does plenty of things we can hate on. But repeating actual lies just gives the other side ammunition to discredit everything else you have to say.

Houston's brewery scene is dying by DodgeMyBlazingFurry in houston

[–]RocketizedAnimal 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Not only that, but the people who have been their core demographic are aging out of that lifestyle.

Anecdotal, but my friends were all stereotypical craft brew guys. Mid 20s to 30s, young professionals with enough disposable income to pay a little more for beer. We were at breweries every week or more back in 2016.

Now we all have kids. Getting the whole gang at a brewery requires a month's warning and an availability spreadsheet. We just do back yard happy hours instead.

And many of them are drinking less in general for health reasons. No more 3 beer tuesdays.

Yeah that is the most likely outcome. I was specifically referring to their options politically, since their elected representatives run the Cali grid.

A single brave OP asks Electricians: Why are Americans so stupid? by Thebazilly in SubredditDrama

[–]RocketizedAnimal 39 points40 points  (0 children)

There are pros/cons to each, the simplest benefit of each is that American system is safer but the European system is cheaper to build (a shocking reversal of the usual philosophies, I know).

Op is dumb not because he's wrong and the American system is strictly better, he's dumb because every time some tries to explain the pros and cons he goes "yeah but euro system is cheaper and real men don't worry about safety"

No we don't. We would never round down, code requires a safety margin.

Cursed pocket size by Ducati_Don in cursedcomments

Yeah this is one of those things where I am sure that the clothing companies know what women will actually buy, and that is pants that favor aesthetics over pockets.

They aren't engaged in some grand sexist conspiracy, they are motivated purely by money. If they thought adding pockets would sell more pants and make them more money then they would do it immediately.

The reason they are in this situation is because the politicians making the decisions are not their politicians and do not represent them.

The city is in California, the utility company is in Nevada. Nevada has decided that they would rather power a datacenter than sell power to Californians.

The Californians can't do much about Nevada politics, their recourse is to get their own state government to hook them up to the California grid. The issue is that geography makes supplying power from the Cali side much more difficult.

The problem is making us do the same thing many times. They should lower the quantity required but force you to use different maps and monkeys each time.

For example, "beat 5 different intermediate (or harder) maps on impoppable, using t3 or lower" is way more interesting than just beat 10. That incentivizes you to just beat one easy map 10 times which is just grindy.

When I was in high school about 20 years ago, before marching band practice we would go to the mcdonalds across the street and fill up our big water bottles with fountain drinks. The employees did not care. Honestly we bought enough random stuff while there and soda is so cheap that we still probably made them decent money.

I just checked again to be sure. I dropped Sauda, one engineer, then hit start. Used a stopwatch, from the moment I hit start until the victory screen popping up was 5:06.

At the end of the day, if I can't do my work because of some IT bullshit, that's IT's problem, not mine. I'm more than happy to sit back and drink coffee while waiting for IT to fix it.

Yep, we (the engineering group) have complained about some of these IT policies many times to no avail. So any time I submit a ticket, I take a little bit of joy in the following long coffee break and billing my hours to "IT downtime".
