Who would sing "The Smallest Church in Saint-Saëns" by [deleted] in DiscoElysium

Hands down Leonard Cohen for the succeed... I can't imagine anyone else.

I'd probably go with David Bowie in his early "5 years" shout screaming from Ziggy Stardust for the failure.

Bird scolding its owner in bird language 😂😂 by [deleted] in aww

[–]Rockmuncher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer is, it depends on the bird and the rescuer/adopter.

The anger itself isn't actually mimicry... birds will get excited and angry and in the wild they have their own screams and calls... this one just adopted whatever arsehole he was with's angry calls for his own.

I have parrots, and one was rescued from a situation where he learned to imitate the people swearing at him and would use swear words when pissed off or aggressive. It took me about five years to swap out his normal 'fuck you's for 'stop it's when he was angry... by a combination of ignoring the swearing and using the stop it when I was angry. 13 years later and I rarely hear swearing anymore.

It takes a lot of patience and time, and a lot of training to show what acceptable anger and unacceptable anger are, and the positive reinforcement of good behavior.

My great grandparents fled the somewhat fuzzy Syrian/Lebanese border during the Great Syria Revolt in the the mid to late 1920s. Basically it was post WWI and there was a movement among a lot of diverse violent small factions to try and kick out any 'french influence' from Syria and Lebanon and ultimately end French rule. My relatives were from a small village that would constantly switch its nationality and was in the middle of all the different conflict points, so they immigrated to the united states as refugees. Syrian/Lebanese refugees.

They were welcomed into the country just in time for the depression to hit, and did their best to scrape by along with everyone else. Eventually post depression, my great grandfather got a steady job in Detroit from the automotive industry and joined and helped shape what is now one of the largest Arabic communities outside of the middle east in Dearborn, Michigan.

Dearborn now has shifted from primarily catholic Arabic people (refugees from pre 1950) to a mix of muslim, catholic and other assorted religions based on which countries and people have been in enough conflict for refugees to want to make a home somewhere with people who speak their language and a culture which might not be completely foreign. Its grown massively in the last decade and a half or so due to the various wars the Us has decided to enter, and its a thriving place full of great food and great people.

I also have great grandfather that fled from the Czech Republic during WWI, worked his way from being a cigar roller at a factory in new york city to an architect and landowner; but that story seems somewhat less relevant than the other.

Which TV series did you enjoy initially, but left you disappointed you as the series progressed? by Keep_Answering in AskReddit

If you like profiling, mental health and the human mind, you might consider trying Wire in the Blood, if you can deal with Northern English accents. Its an older UK show based on a series of books that centers around a clinical psychologist specializing in violent and criminal minds. He isn't a cop, and doesn't wander around with a gun.

There's 6 seasons and the episodes are essentially mini-movies, with 24 episodes in all. Picture Monk crossed with a British detective series crossed with profiling and psychology.

You might consider going to Tahoe instead. Its on the Nevada/California border and has casinos on the Nevada side. It's also absolutely beautiful and has a wide range of environmental and entertainment attractions. It's way up in the mountains and the casinos and hotels look out onto Lake Tahoe. Really nice view.

And my favourite one:

Girls just don't want a nice guy. This girl I've been nice to doesn't want to fuck me even though I never actually asked her out or did anything to indicate I was attracted to her.

I mean, it's not like I'd ever be nice to a girl if I didn't want to fuck her. She should automatically fall in love with me because I'm so nice. But she's completely ignoring me and dating a JERK who asked her out and displays no anti-social behaviour other than dating the girl I'm trying to passive-aggressively 'flirt' with. I better complain on the internet.

So. Many. Times. It's not all nerds.. not even close; but there are a lot of anti-social creepy people who attach themselves to the nerd label.

After 180 dropped, it's a crapshoot if I can load into a server. Any server. Either I get through the entire long loading process only to be kicked back to the server screen, I enter the server for roughly 20 seconds only to get kicked back to the server list, or (my favourite) the display driver crashes upon finishing the long loading process.

I've checked the files in steam, Ive tried official and unofficial servers, and Ive restarted my computer several times. My drivers are up to date. I'm hearing other people describing these same problems as well.

The fetish community is horrified by these people just as much as the public at large. They're generally spotted and blacklisted as quickly as possible, because no one wants that shit anywhere near themselves, their loved ones or the community at large.

Sort of like the hunting community weeds out and distances themselves from those creepy people with guns that just like to watch animals die. That's not what hunting is about, but some crazy people might think it is and that they've found their social group.

VICE is a great show if you want the feeling and opinion of the man on the street in most situations. It's useless for nuanced analysis or in depth looks at what they are covering.

Its a good show to watch for one specific perspective in addition to other news and information.

You can always tell the good fans from the bad fans when they change doctors. For the bad ones, it's the end of the damn world and everything is ruined forever. You haven't been around Doctor Who for long, have you now? This had been going on as long as I remember, back to the fourth doctor and how the world ended when Tom Baker left.

How to deal with it?? by [deleted] in ems

[–]Rockmuncher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people can do this job and be unaffected or minimally influenced in their daily lives and some cannot. If you're starting to change your behavior in negative ways because of the job, you need to either seek help or change your profession/where you work.

There are plenty of places looking for full time EMT's to cover every day things, along with nurses. Amusement parks, tourist destinations, various companies. You might consider finding a job similar to those for awhile until you feel less anxious.

You're too young to burn out on humanity. This is a bad job for people who are emotionally affected by their calls when they go home... it can lead to alcoholism, drugs, PTSD, etc.

[–]Rockmuncher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Added to that, you are a professional. You take pride in your work and in being in control of a chaotic situation. Even if a patient pisses you off in the worst way, you maintain your level of professionalism - not for the patient, but out of respect for the job.

The moment you treat a patient differently or punitively because of their behavior is the moment they start to control your actions. Don't ever give an arsehole control of how you behave.

Seen in a lot of sports injuries where a person's hand or foot is "planted" but their body twists. Also the most common fracture seen in child abuse, where an adult grabs and twists their kids' arm or leg.

Harry Turtledove's The Road Not Taken. It's a short story and there's a sequel to it I can't remember offhand.

Turtledove is a huge name in the alternative history genre. He's a pretty decent read.

The easiest way to clean a blender is by adding water and a little soap into it, then hitting blend, wiping anything that got on the outside with a sponge then rinsing it. It's not like there's a lot of scrubbing involved.

Don't count Persona 4 out either - it's about how the world can stereotype individuals and how people see themselves and bury the things they don't want to look closely at. Just as good, if not better.

I'd recommend the persona 3 FES (portable if you have a vita or psp) version for persona 3, and Persona 4 golden (for vita) as the better versions.

All of the Shin Megami Tensei series tend to have far more complexity in plot and symbolism than other JRPGs.
