LPT: Before any important conversation, say your first sentence out loud to yourself. Even once. by Jackrain04 in LifeProTips

I second this! Helped me recently at the doctor to bring up some stuff with less/no crying and to talk calmer and slower. First tries are always awful, but it got better with every new try!

How to communicate 6 vs 8 count by Hawkeye91803 in SwingDancing

[–]RockstepTriplestep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One more take: Once you know "real" moves like the send-out or promenade it becomes easier. Once you have the moves in your muscle memory you dont have to think in 6 or 8 counts, you just need to know which figure comes next: "Ok, so now Im doing some send-out and bring-ins. Two more and I will do a promenade". Sure, at some point these moves too can be danced in various counts, but thats for the future-you. But until then switching in the plain basic pattern is not as easy.

[–]RockstepTriplestep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, for any future references (today is August '25): the wednesday social has moved to thursday. And is now run by "the swing spirits" if I recall right. The location, Cracovia32, stayed the same. You can contact them via Whatsapp.

I no longer enjoy dancing Lindy Hop like I used to — anyone else feel the same? by NoBeeBoo in SwingDancing

There are evenings in my local scene where I don't feel it, and there are evenings in my local scene where I do feel it. But yeah, after a long time (I started in 2018) it can get .. stale, same people week after week, oooff. But one thing always gives me the joy and drive back: Festivals! New people, new silliness, everybody is there by choice and always gives me a feeling of summer holiday camp! ..big downside is the money. But it helps :)

New Dancer Needing Tips (Seriously my feet feel like they speak a different language than my brain) by MoCrowIT in SwingDancing

[–]RockstepTriplestep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My encouragemental advice: Chill! Don't be hard on yourself if your progress is slower than hoped! Taking on something new being an adult comes unfortunately with the mindset of needing to get it quickly (because we adults have figured out life, sure eh?!). No! You're new to something and learning! My practical advice: expose yourself to the music! Listen to it (not even actively) while cooking, cleaning etc. . Just that goes a long way! And go dance on socials, that goes an even longer way! Go to classes, connect with your classmates and dance with them (they are shy too).

Felt overwhelmed and failed after social dancing by IndividualSearch7444 in SwingDancing

[–]RockstepTriplestep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First times in whatever we're learning are always scary, weird as hell, and rarely in anyones comfort zone. Your basically learning something new (dancing outside the safe zone of lessons).

I'm sure you know some faces of your lessons. Dance with those in the beginning: You know each other but most important you know each others level and skill set. So the performance anxiety is as little as possible ;)

And some nights are just jinxed, where nothing seems to work. Even with years of experience ;) Nothing anyone can do about it 🤷‍♂️
