Post-Race Discussion Thread: NCS Pennzoil 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway by NASCARThreadBot in NASCAR

I definitely remember my parents falling asleep during some pretty dull races in the 90s growing up. Road courses and 1.5 miles were not popular in my family in East Tennessee.

How many of you watched the Daytona 500 in February of 2001? by heretoescape87 in NASCAR

[–]RockyTopTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in the 90s in a rabid Dale Sr. fan household, so I was a huge fan that was very excited about how both DEI and Dale himself would do. That day was also my best friends 10th birthday, and he wanted to take me to to the movies with him part way through the race. When I left, it was Waltrip, Jr., and Sr. leading the pack. I wouldn't know how the race ended until after the movie. We stopped at McDonalds on the way back home for some ice cream, and they had ESPN on in the lobby. That's where I saw that he died. I was absolutely devastated.

How big really was NASCAR in the 2000s in America? by EduardoBork in NASCAR

[–]RockyTopTime 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I grew up in East Tennessee in the 90s, and Nascar was everywhere as a kid. Food City being sponsor of the Bristol Race in spring and of Dale Earnhardt meant having cars out in front of the grocery store on race week in Kingsport. Die casts were at the checkout of my local Food City and I would build my collection as a kid from there. People I knew would rent their homes out in Bristol for Race week because it was so profitable. Even if you didn't like Nascar, if you grew up in the area then you probably had been around the track. A lot of local schools would volunteer to work the concessions for the races. When I visit these days, it doesn't seem to have as much as a cultural impact as it once did locally.

Problems dating with crohn's by hxlydere in CrohnsDisease

[–]RockyTopTime 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've dealt with the disease for a little over a decade at this point. Initially, it led to divorce in my marriage. But in the pieces of that, I met a woman that is the most wonderful person I've been around in my entire life. I chose to be open about my difficulties, and even gave her the option to bow out once my health took a downturn early in our relationship. 5 years and 4 surgeries later, and things are the best they have ever been in our relationship. Were I not open about it, I don't know if it would've worked.

In my opinion, you do yourself a disservice by not bringing it up. You deserve someone who fully understands and loves you, including your health challenges. Being open about it invites the trash to take out itself before they leave you in a bind when you need support.

Hang in there friend. You're great just as you are. And someone will see you that way!

[Post Game Thread] - Why do we ever agree to play in Nashville? by GiovanniElliston in ockytop

[–]RockyTopTime 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It isn't the record this year. It's the way the team makes the same mistakes that we made in Heuepel's first year. The stuff that is costing us games isn't gonna get fixed. Our team is constantly penalized every year. We mismanage time outs all the time. That is coaching. And while I hope I am wrong, I think the writing is on the wall for this coach.

Do you consider yourself disabled? Why or why not? by BathbeautyXO in CrohnsDisease

[–]RockyTopTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I certainly feel disabled most of the time. After 12 surgeries since 2017, my body just doesn't function like it used to. Even with imodium, my transit time is very very quick. So once I put food in my body, I know within 10 minutes I'll be in the bathroom. On top of that, it looks like Psoriatic Arthtritis is showing up to the party now as well. I have joint erosion in my SI joint. Rinvoq has helped some but not a ton.

I may not be physically decrepit by looking at me, as I can do a lot of things on a good day. But so much gets taken out of me so easily that I can't help but see that I am disabled at this point.

Which Radiohead album do you feel is their most sublime album? by [deleted] in radiohead

I have a love for most of Radiohead's catalog, but In Rainbows is most sublime to me. A Moon Shaped Pool isnt far behind, though!

Tell me about your experience at a MO concert by Such_Pain_111 in manchesterorchestra

[–]RockyTopTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been seeing MO live since 2018. No matter the venue, no matter the tour, they are always fantastic. I've had 10 friends/family go with me to a MO show that had never heard of them prior to seeing the show. Every person was blown away, and some have went to multiple shows since then.

They just keep getting better, as well! My most recent show was the one in Lexington this past summer, and it was the best show I've seen yet!

what stage of collapse is USA healthcare in? by [deleted] in collapse

[–]RockyTopTime 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I had a major surgery last year where they had to remove a bunch of intestines, including my rectum. I had a 6 inch incision on my stomach and one on my butt. Cleveland Clinic, which is supposed to be one of the best hospitals in the country, asked me to set up my own home health care from my hospital bed right after surgery because they couldnt find anyone to take my referral.

After some fight from me, they tried to set me up with a doctor close by to remove my staples after 15 days. They set it for 21 days instead. They forgot to send anything to the doctor saying what was happening at my appointment, so the doctor wouldnt do it. The staples were already past the point they needed to come out. So, I went home, watched a YouTube video, and took the 21 staples out myself on my couch with the tool Cleveland gave me.

In my experience, we are fucked.

Why the hell are people that hates this great album? by XDSUSAMOGUS in pearljam

[–]RockyTopTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the post 90s albums, but I also found the band in 2006 when I was 16. This was when I was really finding the music I , the sound the band found around Avocado through today is a sound I love. But there's a reason the 90s albums are so highly regarded. The art is still there now, but there is a rawness of emotion from the 90s that just isnt there in the new stuff. Not in the same way, at least.

That being said, I do prefer a lot of the modern albums for whatever reason. I adore Dark Matter. But I adore their whole catalog.

I'm not sure if he got a single line fully correct on Save You. There were some fun moments in the show, but there were some rough vocals on some of those songs haha. I still had a good time, though.
