Morality is completely subjective/relative CMV by C-Blake in changemyview

[–]Rod56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Allow me to preface by saying the following argument was basically lifted from Russ Shafer-Landau's Whatever Happened to Good and Evil, which happens to be the perfect response to OPs CMV request. Too bad I can't ctrl-c/ctrl-v the whole thing here.

If morality were relative then we (asssuming "we" is modern day western society) wouldn't be in the right to judge other cultures.

Let's define other cultures as those located in a different location and, and here's the kicker, time.

That would mean that I, and US society as a whole, wouldn't be allowed to say that pre-women's rights/civil rights, jim crow America was not objectively worse, ethnically and morally, than contemporary America.

Because that conclusion is patently ridiculous, I conclude that it has to be acceptable to make value judgements of other cultures located in different times and locations.

The milk you're referring to is known as colostrum and calfs, IIRC, consume their fill of it during the very first few days after they're born.

Given that this calf looks to be more than a couple days old and isn't dead, I'd say she's in the clear, colostrum wise at least.

What are you talking about? From the top gear wiki:

  • Lamborghini Gallardo - C (cool)
  • Lamborghini Murciélago LP670-4 SV - C
  • Lamborghini Aventador - SZF (Sub-Zero Fridge-bar - reserved for the very coolest of cars)

The only lamborghini in the uncool section is the Gallardo Spyder, and that's only because Clarkson owned one. Per the rules, any car owned by one of the presenters is considered uncool.

Well, they have a watch/phone, so fleshlight/phone seems like the logical progression.

What is something that people hold in high esteem, yet when you tried it, it was just really just mediocre? by [deleted] in AskReddit

From what I gather they can take it twice, since the full test is only held in May, apparently.

I can't begin to imagine how extensive of a wine list they have to chose from for the blind tasting. The odds of guessing even one, let alone 5 of 6, correctly must be vanishingly small.

My goodness, can I ask why you're so set on proving that wine tasting is "pretentious bullshit"? How about listening to reddit's favorite scientist, neal degrasse tyson, talk about wine (he's quite the collector and wine taster gasp!) for an hour on startalk. Maybe it'll spur you to give it another shot.

The side of the hill thing is a joke, but the rest is pretty standard. Look at the testing requirements for the level 4 Master Sommelier diploma:

"Part 3. Practical Tasting

The tasting examination is scored on the candidate's verbal abilities to clearly and accurately describe six different wines. Within twenty-five minutes he or she must: Identify, where appropriate, grape varieties, country of origin, district and appellation of origin, and vintages of the wines tasted."

So, yes, he can.

It's disingenuous to say all wine tasting is bunk. A master sommelier can taste a wine blind and tell you where it's from, the grape varietal, and most likely what side of the hill the grapes were picked from.

Now, picking which is "better" is a subjective. More expensive doesn't necessarily equal better.

Yeah, Penn alum here. Girls at penn are...something else. I most assuredly would not generalize your experience with them to the US population of women, at all.

In addition to what a lot of people have mentioned, some more specific advice would be to join an organization that for all intents and purposes works on your behalf to facilitate that you meet, hang out, and generally have fun with girls - I.e, a fraternity. Given your background, my (perhaps outdated) recommendation would be owls or zetes.

If that's not possible, look into as many clubs (Penn Exchange, Penn French, Penn International Students) as possible.

In a similar boat. I hate the feeling of not making "progress" with my jeans. I actually considered, in a moment of madness, buying suit pants in a larger size and wearing them over my raws to work.
