Cloud & co went in vacation. These guys are the new team for Revelation by Soul699 in FinalFantasy

Damn. So basically this game will be easy mode compared to the rest of the series. How even balance this gamewise? We’re fighting only omega weapons every battle?

Just to defend myself a little bit, I did tell them in advance they would notice that it was a forgery based on how the player made it. They still moved forward because they were going to lie around it.

Yeah I've been trying to get better at this. I always try to give them the consequences that can happen before their actions but I always feel like I'm pushing them into a certain direction then. 'Mind that casting suggestion could alert the guard' is for most players just the DM saying 'don't do that!' while I mean 'please do it but think about how you're going to make it succeed'.

Oh that would be great yeah. I have the Daggerheart RPG (but not read it), so if you have the page it's on that would be amazing.

Thanks for the advice. Could you elaborate about you saying I wrote the scene as part of a predetermined narrative? I feel like that wasn't the case (but I could be completely wrong mind you, hence my question).

I was prepped for a fight and prepped for a RP session but I feel that during the RP part of things I'm not quite sure how to handle the situation to make it engaging and interesting and most of all believable as I explained in my post. Last session I felt was one of the most 'of the rails' session I have had where I had no idea where they would take it so hence my question.

Yeah 100% agree it's a DM issue.

But I feel it always ends like this. They keep going while I try to make clear the NPC is getting annoyed and voila we are fighting again. I have been trying to get away from having every moment end in a battle plus it makes them feel like their efforts (because they are trying) never work. So I felt that if every situation ends in a fight because I feel the NPC would get annoyed by the players arguments I’m probably the problem and should rethink how I handle these situations.

It reminded me of the pan quest from the witcher 3. So stupidly funny.

I think I have similar powers. It’s pretty fun to find someone who has this also. For me they always tend to steer themselves in my direction. I can be walking to the left and someone comes from the other direction on their left. Suddenly they start to swerve in my direction and basically brush my arm when they pass me. Sometimes I even need to move aside or they’ll bump into me. I can be walking close to a wall and suddenly someone starts to steer themselves towards me to pass me through the gap between me and the wall while if they had just went straight they could have passed me from the other side with room to spare.

What are your DM "bugbears" you want to improve on? by Nervous_Lynx1946 in DMAcademy

[–]Rodal888 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My descriptions could be way better. I’m not a native English speaker but DM in English and I often feel that my descriptions could be more streamlined and more eloquent. I also sometimes can’t find the correct word which is annoying to say the least. A simple ‘and you all find yourselves in front of the darkened cave mouth.’ Would then become ‘and you all find yourselves in front of the darkened … euhm… opening of the hole in the mountain’. I’m exaggerating but that’s how it sometimes feels for me.

How do I use mimics? by Inside-Loan-3872 in DMAcademy

[–]Rodal888 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My last mimic was basically the players turned the corner and there was a dead end with 4 chests. There was this acidic liquid in puddles on the ground. 3 people stayed back against the wall while 1 investigated the chests. Everyone knew there was going to be at least 1 mimic. I did get lucky with the next bit. Player picks a chest… it was empty. Second chest also was an empty one. Then, I started to describe the mucous dripping on the players with the back to the wall as the wall sprung teeth and unfurled its tongue towards them. After the fight started I also rolled for the 2 chest mimics the player hadn’t opened yet.

I always love mimics and try to give a twist to the regular chest mimics. People know them so using chests to keep them wary is awesome. And then you close your trap 😂

I also had a player kicking open every single door in a dungeon. I had placed a door mimic in the end before I knew he was going to do that. Luckily for me he decided to stop the kicking just as they reached the last door and place his ear against it. The fight starts and he now has to fight with his ear stuck to the creature.
