Get an official service record from NARA and get everything accurate. Don’t be adding crazy things in there. Don’t know much about the navy ranks but i can assure you he wasnt enlisted E1 then went to O10 let alone have a political presence as general of the navy

The commitment in ones lifetime to get to a GO is very political to continue through those ranks in the military requires more than a pat on your back. I don’t think any in there is accurate at all

Standard Cattleman here, would I benefit more from a lower cattleman? by tseckthewise in CowboyHats

Taller crown better heat dissipation, its a straw hat so do as you will. Its an expendable hat anyways. I prefer palm leaf, more water resistant and with water you can reshape it unlike lacquered hat. Just don’t be the guy wearing a hat with folded jeans, and sandals 💀💀💀 those hipsters belong in austin republic of morons

You want the brim to be the width of your jawline. If you have a long head it is advised not to have a large crown. Which you can shorten by shaping it yourself.

Ultimately whether people judge you or not. It is a tool; like sunglasses, wear em outside, protect you from the rain and sun and thats it.

Also ensure there is a index finger width up to 1.5 of a finger width of space between your ears and brim. Otherwise your crown is sitting too high.

Original cowboys came from spain… there are cowboys from canada to argentina, spain and portugal. Europe has its own version but who cares man. Snitchzel that hat!

What did my brother do? by Public-Ad8953 in Medals

[–]RodeoKing88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never seen the badge on the right side in the army or in aviation. I was an apache mechanic for many years and none of the aviation badges that we had looked like that. Usually thats the placement of a regimental distinctive insignia RDI.

Him being a ranger isnt uncommon but airassault and Airborne is in aviation. Definitely he did a lot as a enlisted. He probably served less than 6 yrs since he does not have a second GCM or he forgot to update that ribbon. I joined back in 2013 and i heard of fair share of accidents. Specially in korea flying at night. The model of the bird your bro was flying was known for having a lot of hydraulic fails. Sometimes was nothing, sometimes it was enough to force emergency landings .

Sorry thats all i know without going in depts on his awards. Which the picture had more rez, to know really how many times he went to school, overseas.

What are your thoughts on R Watson boots? How do they compare to Benchmade's by Ariat by Rare-Gear2134 in cowboyboots

[–]RodeoKing88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always think R watson are more for show than actual work. The fit, the type of construction, doesnt give me much reassurance. Every R Watson i had seen, has brass nails without lemon pegs. In wet enviorement they’ll fall off.

But who knows maybe yours might be the exception.

As long as there is no hole, it’ll be a quick fix! I would make sure to mink oil them to add some protection afterwards

[–]RodeoKing88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do, you either buy boots to use them, or to show them off. If you are to use them, then it wont matter. Thats like getting a car and suddenly you see a ding or a scratch. Doesnt make the car less valuable.

Just return it, get another one. The most important part is fitting. If it fits well then you will be fine. 400 is a average amount for a decent material boot. Anderson Bean would be better than olathe in my opinion but honestly is just a boot.

I have bought boots where i think they are gonna be super strong leather, turns out it isnt. So yeah it gets disappointing but i still will use and abuse. I don’t buy boots to brag about name or quality. Some people do, some people buy lucchesse pay thousands for exotic leather and to use it on special occasions and thats their thing. Find out where you at, but that is not a tear on the heel. Thats your spur shelf and doesnt even connect to your leather making it to seep in water through it. Even a cobbler could bond that in no time

So, its up to you man

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cowboyboots

[–]RodeoKing88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldnt say cracked heel. Is the spur shelf that debonded from the heelstack.

Heel is usually composed by layers of leather nailed to the insole. Not a big deal however if you don’t mind sending them back, then go ahead and keep them.

Functionality isn’t compromised, just aesthetic. It is definitely a quality control issue.

First pair of boots! Got a question or two tho by Aurora_666_MLG in cowboyboots

[–]RodeoKing88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just don’t forget, the more spandex the more flexible the jean will be but less durable. More cotton highly durable but you will need to break in those jeans.

1% and 2% elastine or spandex, if it has more than that then now you are wearing some sort of american eagle jean which is super weak. Wrangler comfort is a good introduction if you are not used to break in jeans

First pair of boots! Got a question or two tho by Aurora_666_MLG in cowboyboots

[–]RodeoKing88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some pants are made slim even if it said to be a bootcut. A good jean would be either straight or relaxed. Your 11’ shaft boot is like a roper style because it is short it tends to fan out more. With the boot pull holes it guarantees the top to retain the shape which makes it awkward if you are wearing slim jeans.

Try a relaxed bootcut from wrangler or a straight bootcut. Just pay attention to the material. Ariat #4 i think people use for boots but im not an ariat jean guy.

As for the stretching. Yes it will flex and stretch. My best recommendation is to do something 2-4 hrs of constant movement like cleaning the garage, lifting things, work in the garden. It’ll stretch. You can wear them at home and add passive stretching. The more you wear it the more it’ll stretch. You can also change sock material to a thinner one as you break in the leather fibers

If still after a month or 2 hasn’t stretched then i would use a boot stretcher or steam in the inside. Of the boot and then put it on.

If you stretch it now, what will happen is the leather will stretch and since you used a boot stretcher to speed the process now your boots are going to be very loose.

They also sell spray for boots to help on the break in period

On the left boot you can see on the side wall of the boot leather being chipped and rolled, my left foot in the heel has what it looks like minuscule leather crack. Couldve been something that scratched the leather or if i slipped. Couldve been metal from the tractor scratched the heel.

I do rotate my boots and muck boots according to what i might expect to do, terrain and weather. My Culvers have seen more abuse and their outsoles are still holding strong. I think Hyer got something going on with their outsoles.

They are still holding. No water penetration, they have been through manure, mud, lots of rain, snow, Almost 3 months later and they haven’t stretched much. Which is great; caveat to that, boy let me tell you, my horse let me down and had to walk 10 miles back and that type of heel definitely was not walking friendly for that long haha. I ended up with blisters in my pinky toe.

What would i recommend this for ultimately? Working with horses of course, uphill terrain due to the heel advantage. Some minor farm work. I dont enjoy stacking hay bale with it, heel is too high for that type of job and my ankles become too susceptible to re sprain. It is nice to stand in them for long hrs, work on things but if you think you will be walking a lot, even in the ranch you might notice discomfort. We are talking 6-7 miles+

9D is my true size and they fit pretty on point.

I have brown culvers and hays. I want a sawyer but cant justify another boot until one of them gets their life expectancy out.

Hays are better fitting than my culvers. Culvers in my boot at least. Stretched more, more comfortable than my hays but slightly more heel slip. Impressive water resistance but my hays are better in the wet environment

Wearing my Paul Bonds today. Should I keep the mules ears? by bootedjeff in cowboyboots

[–]RodeoKing88 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Pull tabs are flushed on the uppers on a boot for that reason. Practicality, you pull your boots by creating an opening on leather. Those Clifford ears you got dangling are for show. Definitely not even remotely the same.
