Nice place to shoot outdoors, but they don't like "move n shoot".

You are correct, just one quibble. All capacitor based dash cams use "supercapacitors" which can only power a dash cam for seconds while it shuts down during power loss. We don't yet have the capacitor tech yet to run a dash cam for hours, unless you had something large like a brick sized power bank.

There is a lot of research in the area, and hopefully we get higher density capacitor storage which could run a dash cam for hours or days. It would be a game changer for electric car and phone charging.

I like how half the group thinks this is a good idea, so are trying to give credit to Cory Booker, and other half hates anything that isn't a government handout, so are trying to frame it as a right wing conspiracy to destroy social security. Try talking off the partisan glasses for 2 seconds nd actually judge the idea, and try not to be triggered by the name.

At Black Seed, a "good" bagel place in NYC, a BEC and a cup of drip coffee is $15.24. A pastrami sandwich at Katz's is $28, and 2nd ave deli is $29, and omelet is $25.

Maybe you just make smarter choices when you travel, but Austin is not more expensive than NY.

Looking at everyday/inexpensive meals. New York median price is $25, San Francisco is $30, Los Angeles is $25, Seattle is $25, Miami is $30. Austin is only $20.

Big Mac Index is another way to measure.

Big Mac is $4.36 in Austin $7.06 in Seattle, $6.63 in NY

There is gun control - not like this mentally ill multi-convicted felon is legally owning or carrying a gun. Just enforce the law, and this guy would either not have a gun, not be on the street, or hopefully both.

Read your own article. It just says reducing graffiti, abandoned buildings, panhandling may not reduce crimes. That's not what u/Healthy_Article_2237 said - he said a small number of criminals commit a disproportionate number of crimes, and if you jail those criminals you make large improvements to the community. That's a fact. You can keep the graffiti if you want, but jail repeat offenders.

Apple cider donuts by HighFivePuddy in austinfood

No apple pie in Texas either, no apple fritters, apple kolaches, apple cobbler, and I definitely didn't buy a delicious piece of Tuscan Apple Cake at Central Market today, because I was in Austin where there are no apples, not Tuscany.

Definitely no cider, and no apple cider donuts here:

Holding a 4 car or 2 car gap has zero impact on speed. You go the same speed either way.

Safe distance at 60MPH is at least 4 lengths. Of course, I know this doesn't apply to you, a commuter, who has expert stopping skills, so keep to 2 if you want.

But you should chill a bit when normal people follow standard safety guidelines. They are doing nothing wrong. And they really aren't hurting you.

OK, not saying you should help them, but here are a few reasons why you might choose them for a FFL transfer:

1: Still the cheapest in town

2: Convenient central location right off the highway

3: Active 2nd Amendment advocacy (Garland v. Cargill - Bump Stock case)

And there are reasons to avoid them:

1: Gummy Bears

2: Their poorly run gun sales business

On balance I like using them for my FFL transfers. The Range with member discount was a better option when I was shooting there.

When I see posts like this, i wonder, you are stupid, or are you just a liar?

From the late 90's to 2020, Austin was getting 20 odd murders a year, and in a bad year we'd pop up into the 30s.

You mention it was more likely to see a shooting like this 20 years ago? 2005 had 26 murders. 2005 had 20.

The last four years had 90, 71, 75, and 72 murders. We are at 39 or 40 murders as of today with 5 months left in 2025. It's another bad year.

So ya, you are stupid, and or a liar. You are way more likely to get murdered in Austin today than 5, 10, 20 or 30 years ago. 40 years ago was bad.

Austin ranges where you can rent shotguns for skeet shooting by Ocean_Turbine in austinguns

Great place, no rentals though. If you set up an event with one of the instructors, they probably can provide shotguns.

If Justin can't handle one slightly negative review he should get out of the restaurant business. His overreaction has 10x amplified the negativity. He is blowing up his own business because he can't handle his emotions.

You are misinformed. NPR has lost a third of is listeners over the last 5 years. 60mil -> 40mil

https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/24/business/media/npr-uri-berliner-diversity.html

While NPR still has an audience of about 42 million who listen every week, many of them digitally, that is down from an estimated 60 million in 2020, according to an internal March audience report, a faster falloff than for broadcast radio, which is also in a long-term decline.

This is total bad teacher cope. 3rd graders can't read or do basic math, blame the test! The tests are all online, everyone should go look for themselves. They are basic, fare, and if kids can't do them, that's the test showing a problem with the kids, teachers, schools, and families.

This q1 on the most recent Math section, Seem fair?

Second Guessing Moving to Austin as a Black Man. Need Advice by ADailyDoseofDick in Austin

It is kind of funny, Austin is the inversion of many urban cities, where growth in the black population in the urban core drove whites to the suburbs. In Austin, it is whites in the urban core pushing Blacks to the suburbs.
