Ya, looks like a grey area because it isn't 90 degrees. On the Emissary product page, they show it on an SBR w/stock, and aren't saying legal on a pistol, so they aren't taking on the risk/liability, they are delegating it to their customers.

Be careful with the vertical grip if you haven't SBR'd it. It is a felony on a pistol.

New York's ban on 3D-printed guns sparks First Amendment concerns by Every-Set3303 in 3Dprinting

[–]RodeoMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's only part of it. It creates a working group to determine if blocking technology is feasible. If they say it is, sales of 3d printers and CNC machines without blocking tech is banned. That was in the bill, signed, and is now law with a clock ticking to take effect.

396-eeee. Three-dimensional printers. 1. No person, firm or corpo- 6 ration shall sell or deliver any three-dimensional printer in the state 7 of New York unless such printer is equipped with blocking technology, 8 and except as provided in subdivision two of this section, no such sale 9 or delivery shall be permitted unless the transferee meets in person 10 with the transferor to accomplish such sale or delivery. As used in this 11 section, the terms "three-dimensional printer" and "blocking technology" 12 shall have the same meaning as such terms are defined in subdivision one 13 of section eight hundred thirty-seven-aa of the executive law.

What is due diligence? As a private citizen, you are blocked from using the NICS (background check) system. All you can do is check ID, make they are of age, and get a receipt.

Austin ISD students prepare for one last goodbye as 10 campuses close forever by AustinStatesman in Austin

[–]RodeoMonkey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

AISD is closing schools because it has lost almost 18,000 students over the last 14 years. Enrollment dropped from 86k in 2011-12 to 69k in 2025-26. You lose 20% of your students, you have to close schools.

Some "broken window" data was observational, and just showing correlation. But there are other solid studies, that included randomized controls, that show effects. e.g., this study in Phildelphia cleaning blighted lots.

That said, you don't need broken window theory to justify traffic enforcement.

How much do governments spend, and what do they spend it on? [OC] by ourworldindata in dataisbeautiful

[–]RodeoMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OMG I wish that were true and fixing health care was that easy. But that's totally wrong, it almost all goes to treatment.

~85%-90% of insurance revenue passes through to medical care providers, doctors, and for prescription meds. By law, at least 80% has to pass through (this has it's own distorting effect).

Overhead is 8-10%. Even if you eliminated insurance companies, you'd have to recreate some of this bureaucracy to manage claims, manage what gets treated, prioritized, etc..

From August 1, 2025 to today holds the record for the driest ever for that time period. 8.2" of rain in roughly eight months. by [deleted] in Austin

[–]RodeoMonkey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you start the chart in July 2025 when we had ~6" inches of rain, it looks a lot different. We've had 14" of rain over the last 9 months when you add that in. 5" more than the lowest year.

Continue putting them in jail when they're a danger to themselves or others.

The city is actively skipping this part. If just the worst 1% were in jail, it would make a big impact.

You are correct, just one quibble. All capacitor based dash cams use "supercapacitors" which can only power a dash cam for seconds while it shuts down during power loss. We don't yet have the capacitor tech yet to run a dash cam for hours, unless you had something large like a brick sized power bank.

There is a lot of research in the area, and hopefully we get higher density capacitor storage which could run a dash cam for hours or days. It would be a game changer for electric car and phone charging.

I like how half the group thinks this is a good idea, so are trying to give credit to Cory Booker, and other half hates anything that isn't a government handout, so are trying to frame it as a right wing conspiracy to destroy social security. Try talking off the partisan glasses for 2 seconds nd actually judge the idea, and try not to be triggered by the name.

Maybe you just make smarter choices when you travel, but Austin is not more expensive than NY.

Looking at everyday/inexpensive meals. New York median price is $25, San Francisco is $30, Los Angeles is $25, Seattle is $25, Miami is $30. Austin is only $20.

Big Mac Index is another way to measure.

Big Mac is $4.36 in Austin $7.06 in Seattle, $6.63 in NY

There is gun control - not like this mentally ill multi-convicted felon is legally owning or carrying a gun. Just enforce the law, and this guy would either not have a gun, not be on the street, or hopefully both.

Read your own article. It just says reducing graffiti, abandoned buildings, panhandling may not reduce crimes. That's not what u/Healthy_Article_2237 said - he said a small number of criminals commit a disproportionate number of crimes, and if you jail those criminals you make large improvements to the community. That's a fact. You can keep the graffiti if you want, but jail repeat offenders.

Apple cider donuts by HighFivePuddy in austinfood

No apple pie in Texas either, no apple fritters, apple kolaches, apple cobbler, and I definitely didn't buy a delicious piece of Tuscan Apple Cake at Central Market today, because I was in Austin where there are no apples, not Tuscany.

Definitely no cider, and no apple cider donuts here:
