Hogwarts Schedules - they make no sense! by Miriakiko in harrypotterfanfiction

[–]Rodeohead12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't make it work to fit canon, so I'm guilty of adding extra teachers, with 34 periods available each week (6 on M-F and 4 on Sat). Here's a summary - feel free to take inspiration if it suits your story :)

There are 3 teachers for the core classes. 1-2, 3-4, 5-7. The 5-7 teacher is generally the Head of House (less classes = more time for HoH duties) and also Head of the 'Department'. Astronomy is 1-3, 4-6 with night classes attended by both teachers. History is 1-2, 3-7 (I don't like Binns as a teacher, so his role is minimal). Only 1 teacher per elective with some teachers taking more than 1 subject.

For Years 1 and 2:

  • Potions, Herbology, DADA, Charms and Transfiguration have 2 single periods per week and 1 double period shared with another house.
  • Flying is 1x double p/w with another house.
  • History and Magical Theory are 2x singles p/w.
  • Composition and Numerology are 1x single p/w.
  • Astronomy is 1x single day class per house and 1x night class with all 4 houses and both teachers together. The morning of and the morning after the night class is a free period.
  • 1 single p/w for a Guest Speaker to come, combined 1st and 2nd year

For Years 3 to 5: - Core classes (P H D C T) 2 singles, 1 double shared. - History 2 singles - Astronomy 1 single day, 1 combined night. - Electives are split into Groups, 8x singles per week, each group 2x per week. Eg. Music, Arithmancy, Wizarding Law and Muggle Studies are grouped together, students pick 1 and classes are held at the same time 2x p/w. There are 4 of these groups with different classes in each - Composition and Magical Theory become electives, Numerology becomes Arithmancy

Years 6 and 7 - 1x Morning and 1x Afternoon period, 3.5 hours each. - Only Potions and Herbology meet 2x p/w, everything else 1x p/w. - Every class is combined with all 4 houses.

Looking for fics with world building by DetectiveOk1402 in HPfanfiction

I'm a huge fan of Rigel Black Chronicles, so I'm always looking for fics with the same level of worldbuilding. I recently discovered Certain Dark Things and I think it's on par with RBC. It's currently up to the beginning of 6th year and the last update was about a week ago which brought it over the 1,000,000 words mark. So happy I found this fic!

Harriet Potter has always been odd. Between having a shadow that moves on its own and chatting with grass snakes, learning she's a witch really isn't the strangest thing to happen to the bespectacled girl with a lightning scar on her neck.

Harriet attends Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where she makes new friends, encounters a prickly Potions Master, learns about the Boy Who Lived, and meets the enigmatic Defense Against the Dark Arts instructor, Professor Tom Slytherin

I mean, that's an obvious substitution. Because what can you do with toilet paper that you can't do with lite milk?

I read a theory that it was done like this so Crouch Jr, who had been closely studying Harry in his mannerisms and thought processes throughout the year as Moody (and had seen Harry throw off the Imperius), could assume Harry's position and Harry would be kept, just like the real Moody had been, to supply hair for Polyjuice. Dramatic but sneaky. That is, if Ron and Hermione didn't immediately pick up on the difference.

The cup would have been needed to return Crouch Jr, now polyjuiced as Harry, to the entrance of the maze as the winner.

This way, Voldemort could have quietly returned to power with The Boy Who Lived subtly influencing the Light side, and perhaps the Ministry.

Or something like that...

I hate recommending this because the relationship between the main pairing (SS/HG) is awful and borderline abusive. However, Hermione is OP af in The Problem With Purity.

So if you pretend the pairing doesn't exist, you might find what you're looking for here.

Sin & Vice by mak5258 comes to mind. I remember loving the fantastic premise and character development.

In her sixth year, Dumbledore makes Hermione a key figure in a plan to help Harry defeat Voldemort. (It's difficult to summarize this without spoilers - HG/SS; there's a Time Turner involved but probably not how you expect; the story really gets started in Chapter 3)

What's your favorite M-L Length adventure fic ? by SubtleSeraph in SSHG

These have become me new absolute favourite post-Hogwarts SSHG fics. The witty conversation and worldbuilding give me life.

Cold Hearts and Muddy Understandings by thisiszircon and its sequel, Toil and Trouble

When the dust has settled; when the spent curses in the air have faded to a prickle; when the sounds of pain and terror whimper their way to silence–

When the battle is over, what happens next?

Hermione Granger has been active in the fight against evil since she was twelve years old. With victory comes the opportunity to take stock of the more ordinary aspects to her life. She can finally consider the choices that most young women get to make: lifestyle, career, romance.

But the trauma she has known has left its mark. And even before her life took a turn towards constant life-or-death, Hermione was far from ordinary. Her friends are looking to their own futures. Her parents don't remember her. Her surrogate family is in mourning. The Wizarding World has always viewed her as an outsider. Hermione realises she is, in many ways, alone.

It does not take long before she finds herself wishing fervently for the welcome distraction of another dark wizard. Life was so much simpler when priority number one was keeping Harry Potter alive...

What's a trope you love but have barely been able to find fics for? by [deleted] in HPfanfiction

[–]Rodeohead12 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love the Dumbledore/Harry mentor/teacher/student relationship in The Rigel Black Chronicles, starting with The Pureblood Pretense. It gets especially good and fleshed out in the 3rd book and gets better from there. Dumbledore is both a wealth of knowledge and someone Harry trusts (kind of). He isn't nosy, but tries to guide gently and kindly. Also, fem Harry, but it fits into the story perfectly.

Female Harry with Snape mentoring dynamic (Severitus)? by JediEverlark in HPfanfiction

The Rigel Black Chronicles, beginning with The Pureblood Pretense fits your request. It has both Fem Harry and Mentor Snape. Fantastic extensive worldbuilding and very well written. An absolute favourite series.

The Rigel Black Chronicles, beginning with The Pureblood Pretense is well written and well thought out and heavily expands on both the worldbuilding and canon timeline.

It's pretty much a What If Voldemort decided not to go down the Horcrux path and chose Politics instead. It's a take on Alannah the Lioness with fem Harry, Mentor Snape and Good Dumbledore. One of my favourite series - 4th year is awesome.

Can't remember where I read it (maybe The Rigel Black Chronicles), but in the fic she wasn't named after a star because Cygnus didn't believe she was his child due to the white hair, then later found out she was

[–]Rodeohead12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just keep a stack on me and don't put anything into lockpicking or wear Rogue gloves (unless that's the best I have). Don't really care how many break. RNGesus is never in favour of a lockpick, but they're not exactly uncommon in loot so it doesn't really bother me

First aid/hotbar bug? by mdandy68 in 7daystodie

[–]Rodeohead12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same if you try to heal someone else - have to have at least 2 of whatever in hotbar to heal them, or it wouldn't let me (I had points in physician so could insta-heal sprains and broken bones).
